Has done it once again. I made plan for Birthday Dinner for my wife Nancy. My cousins and friends attended and raved about freshness and choice on menu. Wine selection was great even for the pickiest of diners. SERVICE WAS AMAZING ThankS again Ray
Excellent Italian menu with several daily specials. Service is friendly and responsive without being intrusive. We use it as a neighborhood restaurant that we frequent several times a month.
I find that the new waiters are not really conversant in English, and did not understand my request.
Great food, good value.
Always a delight
As always Dolcino's gives you excellent food at reasonable prices. It is a quiet gem among all the NYC restaurants.
One of our favorite restaurants. Food is always good, ambiance is wonderful, service is wonderful, and you can actually hear each other talk -- so great for conversation with friends.
They also have the best grilled portabella mushrooms in the city, and great chicken and veal parm, and fillet of sole francaise. Also the best real Italian ricotta cheesecake -- nice and creamy -- not too dense.
We planned my sister's Birthday there it was an amazing night of great food, drinks, family. The location of our table was perfect out of way and quiet. The food is always consistent. The warm, family feel of the place is worth trying for first time or going back over and over. Thank you to the staff and chefs for making our time at Dolcino's so memorable! Most importantly you are not rushed out you feel like you can stay and hang out and relax.
Solid, no-frills Italian joint. The food was good and reasonably priced, and the ambiance was enjoyable.
Food andservice is wonderful but the bar areas could use fixing up. They moved the bar to the front which is great but the little lights behind the bar are always off so when you talk in and when you are at a table, it is dark and depressing over there. They don't have a steady bartender, but if they did and they keep the low, little lights on, we would come in for cocktails with and without dinner. When Ramone (the owner? manager?) was there for a bit, he put the low lights on behind the bar and it came alive, but we were already at a table after going somewhere else for drinks first.
Have eaten here many times with friends, and food is always reliable with pleasant, unobtrusive service. Only downside this visit, was that they had no veal at all available quite early in the evening (5:45 or so), although there were several veal dishes on the menu. Since I was planning to order the Veal Sorrentino, this was rather disappointing. Switched to a farfalle pasta with shrimp, which was very good -- but not veal.
Perfect for lunch. Attentive service. Relaxing.
Fantastic Italian food! Really delicious! We had a great great dinner! Terrific service, staff was very friendly and welcoming. Great cozy atmosphere! We will be back!
Love the food and service; always wonderful; but they moved the bar upfront yet don't utilize it; it's usually dark and there's no full-time bartender; they only turn on the lights behind the bar when a waiter goes to make a drink and it's a shame. If they left the little white lights on behind the bar and kept someone there, it would be so nice to sit and have some drinks before moving to a table or even just drop in for a drink. It would also be nice if they got competitive with the neighborhood on Third Ave. and had a happy hour. The lack of attention to the bar makes it hard to go too often and recommend often to others.
Had dinner at Dolcino's the other night with a lovely date. The food, service and ambience were fantastic. We ate very well, were very comfortable and could talk to each other in a lovely, quiet wonderful restaurant. I highly recommend Dolcino's!!!!!!!!!
Great food at reasonable prices.
The service is excellent.
One of the best values in Manhattan.
Parmigiana sauce was too sweet and chicken and cheese was too salty
No Italians cooking or running this restaurant
Great food. Nice staff. Bar is always dark and they won't put the lights on behind it do you can't sit there even when suggested to them. More people need to speak up about this.
Never disappoints. Good food, great service, comfortable ambiance. My favorites are:
Portobello mushroom appetizer (best in the city), salmon, chicken parm, filet of sole or chicken francaise, and they also have the best Italian cheesecake in the city (soft & creamy). And they start with fantastic olives and hard cheese on the house!
Great neighborhood standby!
Always wonderful. Just one thing I wouldn't recommend- the flan is too sweet. But everything else is great: best portabella mushroom salad! Other salads are great. Chicken parm is yummy, salmon is excellent, bread is great. And free olive and hard cheese plate is fantastic!!!
Other desserts are great. Real Italian cheesecake- soft and creamy, chocolate cake wonderful. Love this place!
Food is fabulous; staff is wonderful and attentive; but they moved the bar up front which is great but they have such dim lighting and there is no bartender or regular person behind the bar so they are missing out on a bar scene (that the other restaurants in the neighborhood have). When we go to the bar for a drink before sitting at the table, there is no one standing there, it is dark and a bit depressing. If they get someone behind the bar and keep the dim lights on there, it would be wonderful.
The food was really good, as was the service. I had asked for something that was no longer on the menu and they had no problem preparing it for me, Chicken scarpariella. My friend had the seafood risotto and she thought it was delicious.
This was the third time that my family had a Holiday dinner there, and the last time! I don't know if there are new owners, but, the experience was terrible. First of all, I made the reservation weeks ago on this site. When my daughter got there, she was told there was no reservation. It was for 11 people and I had received a confirmation. Then they begrudgingly started to set a table for us. The service was horrible. The waiters seemed annoyed to have to serve us. And lastly the food was awful. The chicken parm. tasted like a frozen dinner, one of my guests sent it back and refused anything else. The cheesecake was dry, and bland, and seemed stale. All in all it was a very disappointing Easter dinner! I feel the money spent was wasted.
Tasty, Italian. Good service.
The food was exceptionally bland and disappointing. The staff were excellent but due to the lackluster food. I would not recommend or return.
Our neighborhood favorite.
Went for Valdntines Day. Staff are very friendly.
One of our neighborhood standards. Great food, great service, great ambiance, and great conversation with friends
Excellent in every way. Went based on comments and reviews on this website. Just looking for a relatively inexpensive restaurant in Kips Bay section of Manhattan. Was greeted warmly by the owner and shown right to a table. Sparsely appointed yet nice decor. Waiter was very nice and gave us the nightly specials. The menu (Italian food) was surprizingly sparse. Most of the fare was pretty standard with a few dishes that piqued the senses. Wife and daughter ordered soup of the day which was lentil for appy. Chicken parm and baked ziti for them both. I asked the waiter about the Chicken Dolcini...he smiled and said...."best chicken Dolcini you have ever had".. He was right perfectly cooked chicken breast topped with asparagus and cheeze and a thin slice of ham in an excellent creamy sauce. Fantastic! not gourmet but just very good. Served with a side of roasted potato, carrots and broccoli. I literally licked the plate clean with the excellent bread that came with dinner. As I looked around the restaurant every plate was clean when finished. My daughter who is a very finicky eater cleaned her plate as well. They saved the best for last...home made tira misu WAS TO DIE FOR! If you are in the neighborhood by all means go there for Italian Food! It appeared to be a neighborhood gathering place. It was surprizingly inexpensive dinner for 3 (with no drinks) and desert came to about $85 which for New York is a bargain!
If your looking for good value and good serviceable Italian food after a movie, then you found your destination
With our dinner of chicken parm (chicken was large and cooked well) included was soup that was homemade and tasty. Also included was a side of pasta. For us, here was the only disappointment, the sauce was incomplete, a little raw tasting
Wines by the glass are poor. Prices for bottles are inflated above their real worth. Good portions of food, but the quality is average at best. Service is excellent. Ambiance is good. The food should be the star, but falls far short.
Our party of four each throughly enjoyed their choices for dinner. Definitely will repeat.
This trattoria brings you to the Italian atmosphere in a nice not small nor too big restaurant.
There was nice music at a gentle level which allowed people to talk without raising the voice.
The service was very attentive. The food was nicely done. They did not have whole wheat pasta as a choice but they did gluten free kind. Prices were reasonable. It is a good place to go if you are in the mood for Italian fare.
Food and service were very good. Ambiance is quiet and reserved but not ostentatious. A great neighborhood Italian find.
Always enjoy going here for dinner. I reccomend this resturaunt.
Food was mediocre at best.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in my neighborhood. Food and service are consistently good. They never rush you and always make you feel welcome. Great food at affordable prices.
It is a place that want to please and does.
If you desire something special--the answer is yes--we have a kitchen here and a chef.
The service is exceptional, and it welcomes you as a guest.
It is a NY gem.
We had spaghetti bolognese, spaghetti meatballs, and eggplant parmigiano. The sauce is amazing, the food is fresh, crisp, and filling.
Enjoyed a neighborhood spot with plenty of room. Chicken Parm and pasta was good, but not outstanding. Pasta and shrimp was ok. Unfortunately their wines by the glass are not Very good, so had to order $50 bottle of a $15 retail wine to enjoy the meal. They have cheaper bottles, but they are the same as the single glass wines.
This restaurant was a perfect place for a thank-you lunch for a colleague. The service was great and the food was classic Italian, very well prepared. The fixed price lunch is excellent and a great value.
