The service was poor, the food was staggering, drinks took 20 minutes and came after the food. It was a good attempt but we will not be returning.
I think that the authenticity of Doi Moi is by far what makes it an exquisite restaurant, which is why I would definitely recommend Doi Moi to a friend or a foodie who enjoys authentic food.
We shared okra, spareribs, coconut rice—after some delicious appetizers, with beer. Delicious!
The food was mediocre. I ordered beef jerky, duck hearts, mango salad and a fish branzino. I don’t hate all the dish but it wasn’t impressed me. Mango salad was too salty and not well marinated. Duck hearts And beef jerky were dry. A fish branzino was not seasoned enough. Overall, it was ediable.
Superb "new" menu since our last visit. Really quite good. Our server was extremely helpful and appropriately attentive.
Loud, hard to have a conversation.
We've had a very nice dinner at Doi Moi. Our waitress was the best, she made sure we were doing alright the whole evening and she knew a lot about the meals on the menu
I had an allergic reaction to the duck hearts. I’m broken out in hives all over. I’ve eaten duck many times, but never the heart. I wonder what caused such a severe reaction.
Hello Nini, So sorry to hear you had a reaction to your dish. Are you aware of having any other allergies? Perhaps there was another component of the dish that did not agree with you. Again, apologies for your discomfort and we hope you are fully recovered! Jennifer Battle, General Manager
Just amazing! Everyone is so helpful and the whole fried snapper is amazing!
Service, food, and ambiance were all phenomenal! Can not wait to go back!
A varied and delicious array of Southeast Asian Food. Staff is very helpful and the food was everything we'd hoped.
Amazing service, delicious food!
Food was excellent. Customer service not so much. Everything felt rushed, like they were trying to move the table quickly. Mains came while appetizers were still on the table. No break between courses. Manager was the opposite of conciliatory when she intervened.
Everything was great until the waiter forgot about us. after we got our food we never saw him again.
Been to Doi Moi before & it was excellent & special. This time food very mediocre- went downhill. I won’t be returning.
We asked advice from the waiter to order but it was not accurate. The food was food but nothing spectacular.
Maria, Thank you for this feedback. We are sorry your experience here was lackluster. Could we ask for a little more information to learn where we went wrong and how to improve? We would love to have you back to show you what doi moi is really all about. Email us at info@doimoidc. with a little more information! Thanks so much
Doi Moi is an excellent dining experience. Just go and your tastebuds will thank you!
Outstanding- I’ll be back. The ribs were out of this world and I’ll definitely have the mango salad too. The crab curry was good - the crab itself was excellent and I liked the curry leaf flavor - but might try something else next time.
It is a shame to hear that the chef is leaving this week. Dinner on friday was great. Nice, light, and refined starters and hearty curry's and noodle dishes for mains. Drinks were fun and tasty and fit the overal atmosphere well.
Great outdoor service. Food interesting and delicious. Would recommend as a fun and delicious dinner.
I think it is a fun neighborhood spot. It was a disappointing return after they revised the menu. The Banana Blossom was good; I applauded the kitchen for serving it. Both the Ikan Bakar and Char Keow Teow were a let down. The grilled fish tasted roasted instead of grilled. The flavors didn’t carry much oomph that is common in that particular preparation. When you want to use belacan on grilled fish, please, run with it. Char Keow Teow? It ultimately is just chow foon. What an iconic dish this is. In Southeast Asia this dish would cost USD 1.85. At over 20 dollars, the kitchen failed to deliver the identifying flavor that makes the famous dish what it is known for. It has too sweet of a flavor profile. It’s chow foon, not char keow teow.
My server, while friendly, ultimately isn’t particularly attentive because he was serving too many large groups. I had to ask my food runners, who checked on me multiple times, for items.
Excellent from start to finish! Mango salad, coconut crab curry and samosas. Drinks were terrific too! I highly recommend!
Service and food at Doi Moi was excellent. We ordered the scallop ceviche, the duck heart skewers, the coconut crab curry with sticky rice and the branzino. All of the dishes were well prepared and presentation was great. We also had the mango sticky rice and key lime pie for dessert; both excellent choices with interesting modern twists to the dish. Doi Moi had a great selection of cocktails too. We ordered the Suffering is Optional, House Martini and the frozen wine bombs - all excellent. We definitely plan to return to try more items on the menu; one trip is just not enough!
I’ve heard nice things about this restaurant; however, the food wasn’t as tasty as I’ve heard and the waiter that served my table wasn’t attentive to our needs. He forgot to ask me if I wanted something to drink while I waited for the other person in my party to arrive, it took him a while to come back to the table when the other person arrived and I had to remind him that we wanted to order drinks. Basically his entire service was like that the entire night. I was really expecting food that taste as good as the food made in Southeast Asia. I was a bit disappointed.
Terrible service. Over cooked fish. Huge disappointment
Food and service was fantastic. Great flavors and spices with options for sea, land and vegans alike. We’ll definitely be back.
Great salads and noodles. Would be nice to a have a few interesting takes on classic cocktails.
Doi Moi est un super restaurant! J’ai eu un merveilleux repas et le personnel était serviable!
It was good!
The latest change in the kitchen was not entirely for the best. Expanding the Asian geography of the dishes offered was welcomed but the outcome is hit or miss. New squash curry was a one-note disappointment, lacking both in depth and in any authenticity of its origins. The Javanese satay skewers do not even remotely resemble the real thing. The okra missed on the heat it promised and overwhelmed with salt. Still, I have high hopes the kitchen will sort out its kinks.
Food and service were great. The only problem was loud voices at surrounding tables that are very close together, making it impossible to have an easy conversation.
The menu change is very disappointing. Asked for spicy sauce and was charged and brought a sweet sauce. Asked for food to be spicy and was not at all. Been here many times in the past and loved everything I tried. This time was extremely disappointing. I brought a friend from out of town and was sad that this wasn’t the food I was expecting
The food was delicious however, the service this time around wasn’t the best by any means.
Among my top ten best restaurants in dc. Good service amazing food.
Loved Doi Moi! Food is unique and very tasty! Surprisingly large portion sizes for the price. Server was accommodating when one dish was too spicy for one of us. Perfect spot for a date or girls night out. Recommend getting several dishes to share. Will definitely be back!
Doi Moi has delicious food, great service, and a calming but energetic ambiance. The standout though is the food!
Attended for restaurant week. Set menu had excellent food (Burmese tomato salad, fish curry, and butterfly pea flower infused sticky rice with mango) at a great price.
Service was also great - attentive, helpful, and quick.
It was my first time at Doi Moi and I was unimpressed to say the least. The waiter wasn't sure of what he was doing (brought the wrong drinks and orders to our tables, twice). Restaurant week should be a sampling of the regular menu... the restaurant week menu was just random samplers with below average taste. I didn't even finish my meal, but ended up paying $110 for it. Yeah, y'all need to do better
