We had an amazing meal at Doi Moi for our anniversary this week. The food was delicious they were incredibly accommodating for vegan meal items and the service was great. We will definitely be back!
Great dinner will return soon, The fish soup was excellent fish cooked perfectly and tasty broth the ribs were simple and very tasty
Service and food was amazing!
Awesome meal for restaurant week! Had the most incredible curry.
Food was flavorful and portions were plentiful. Would absolutely recommend!
Our experience at Doi Moi was beyond expectation and we were already well disposed from having had lunch at Bird's Eye Cafe previously.
Johanna has put together her unique understanding of South Asian flavors with her exquisite attention to detail and created authentic meals where you can taste each wonderful flavor. The warmth and friendliness of the staff come from the example Chef sets.
Server could not get orders right price
Could not spilt check properly
Disappointed with quality of food
Food was ok, not authentic as I had hoped. I was born in Malaysia and am Sri Lankan descent. Wished the food had a stronger sense of flavor than
Doi Moi has been excellent with the new chef...do yourself a favor and get over there! The blue crab friend rice was amazing, and don’t miss the beef jerky and scallop appetizers...delicious!
I love the food! I love the service! So many vegan options. So many gluten free options. So many meat options. So many drink options. But it’s tooooo loud! I try to go at least once a month because the food is fantastic.
Diverse menu. All of the foods that our party of 6 ordered - were delicious.
The wait staff is attentive and timely
Love Doi Moi. I've been coming to this restaurant for a while. Delicious food!
Food is great. Drinks are small and overpriced.
Sehr freundliche Bedienung. Hat uns alle Speisen erklärt und gute Hinweise für Newcomer gegeben.
Haben sehr gut gegessen und der Preis war absolut fair.
Great Sri Lankan pop up, glad to have gotten a chance to try out the cuisine, though I suspect this was much less spicy than it would probably be traditionally. Server was rude and clearly didn't want to be there, but everyone else was great.
We came for the Sri Lanka menu!
We specifically went to Doi Moi for the Sri Lankan pop up on July 21 and 22. The food was mostly authentic Sri Lankan. I hope they add egg hoppers and string hoppers to their regular menu along with pol symbol and kiri hodi which are essential accompaniments to the hoppers.
I sure wish that a Sri Lankan restaurant would open in DC. Any chefs listening?!!
My wife and I have been to Doi Moi a few times, but made a point of going this past Sunday for their special Sri Lankan pop-up menu. I am only writing this review to encourage them to do MORE such evenings and offerings! Food was delicious and reminded us of our much-loved trip to Sri Lanka. We're curious to see what other cuisines they can tackle.
Extremely loud. Servers were a little distracted and not 100% on top of explaining what dishes were what or were not familiar with the menu. Servers were good with checking in but not too often.
We ordered the whole fish and it was so gooood! The only drawback was we asked for a second serving of sauce, and the second batch was incredibly salty. Potatoes and sticky buns were also phenomenal. Great spot for a date or family dinner! Lots of trendy folks, fairly priced too :)
The restaurant looked a bit like a hip diner, lots of tile, cool and modern. By the time we left (after a 7pm reservation) there was a line out the door. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgable, and attentive, but had too many tables and we had to wait a bit too long to order drinks, which took a while and were not great. The lemongrass was too strong in their take on a gin and tonic, and the mezcal-based cocktail was over the top with smoke and spice. However, the food was outstanding - standouts include the scallop carpaccio, the mussels, and the short rib curry. Everything was fresh and flavorful without being salty (a common downfall in asian cuisine). I wanted to drink the mussel broth. Delicious! Can't wait to go back.
Doi Moi is a great setting with friendly service and often terrific food. My fish dis was a bit bland but other dishes served were quite good. Noise was a bit of an issue with the packed Saturday night crowd. Tough to converse with people at my own table. Other times might be less crazy?
Staff was amazing, knowledgeable and friendly. Very attentive and the food was incredible. Love the ambiance. I will definitely return
Kitchen was slow and restaurant is EXTREMELY loud
A bit pricey, but overall decent food and good service
We love this place! A favorite we keep returning to
The food was truly outstanding. Don’t miss the house made whole fried snapper and the basil fried rice. Service was friendly and timely.
Overall, Doi Moi was excellent!
The Basil Fried Rice, Marinated Beef Jerky, and Green Papaya Salad are all musts. The Cambodian Corn was one of the best things I've eaten in a long, long time and was such a fun, pleasant surprise. Additionally, the Sauteed Okra, Lemongrass Pork, Samosas, and Crispy Whole Fried Snapper were all delightful. For dessert, we absolutely loved the Doi Nut, which was a really clever synthesis of Vietnamese and Italian cuisines.
Lots of other things on the menu looked wonderful, and we're looking forward to coming back and trying them.
The drinks were also lovely, so I'd definitely recommend having something from the cocktail menu. There are also some really nice beers and wines, if that's more your speed.
The service was warm, generous, and attentive and the atmosphere was lively without being too loud to carry on a conversation with one's fellow diners. The restaurant is bright, open, and airy with really tasteful decor.
We can't recommend Doi Moi enough and are looking forward to coming back!
First time diners and it definitely won’t be the last. We were seating at the counter facing cooking area - at first not enthused but ended up being fantastic to see the chefs and staff working beautifully together to make culinary masterpieces. Our waiter, Charles, was attentive, gave informative descriptions about the dishes and patient with our questions. Eric, the su chef, was delightful in encouraging us to try certain signature appetizer dishes like the Crispy Pig Ears (AMAZING!), and Sassate Duck Heart Skewers (surprisingly MOUTH-WATERING!). Having a hard time deciding which dish we should each get, we settled on Crispy Whole Fried Snapper and Rohan Duck Leg Khao Soi. Both were sublime!! The spices and nuances of flavors kept playing in my mind long after dinner was done. The grand finale was Khao Neeo Mamuang, their signature dessert. Honestly, we were planning to get ice cream afterwards but Eric said it was a “can’t miss” traditional dish with a twist and he was exactly right! It was lightly sweetened sticky rice with added pea flower giving the it a distinctly blue color creatively contrasting against the orange-yellow mango slices. WOW, WOW, WOW! We’ll be back again!
The snapper with dipping sauce was bland and conventional
The first 2 items delivered were different from our order. We ordered calamari and were given duck hearts. They told us to keep the hearts which had little flavor and an odd exterior. When they delivered the calamari it was nearly flavorless and undercooked.
Overall the food was underwhelming. There was no attempt to apologize about the incorrect food.
Based on the food and service We would not return
We LOVED our singing experience at Doi Moi!!!!! All 6 of us can wait to return. Everyone was nice and efficient. The food was EXCELLENT!!!
I always love the food at Doi Moi and tonight was no different. Food was great. The service was not as good as it has been in the past. The bus boy was more attentive than our actual waiter. He rarely checked on us and seemed annoyed with any questions we asked. He didn't ask what spicy level we wanted and a couple of the dishes were quite spicy (I love spicy food). We just wanted a sauce and it took a long time to get him to suggest a sauce for the dish and even longer to actually get it. I would go back just for the frozen drink and the corn. Due to the high price, we only ever come here for special occasions and generally it is totally worth it. Hoping the service is better next time as it has been in the past. Maybe we would have better service if we sat outside but it has been a very hot and humid DC summer per the usual this time of year.
Food was fantastic
Great place, creative food, service was excellent! Thanks
Great service, great food and food comes out quickly! Nice vibe if you sit outside!
The food, for the most part, was delicious. Unfortunately what gives this restaurant a poor rating is their service. I made a reservation on OpenTable for 7 and I called the restaurant at 6:50 to inform them I’d be about 10 minutes late. They couldn’t find my reservation anywhere so I had to make a new one on the spot. Luckily there was no wait, but if there was I would’ve been pretty upset.
To make things more annoying, on the OpenTable reservation I specified that my boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary. I asked if they could do something special. Since the opentable reservation wasn’t showing up, I went out of my way to ask BOTH the host and my waitress if they could do something special. They both said they would, but at the end of the night we got nothing. Very sad, as I was hoping to surprise my boyfriend with a little something.
Ran out of the crab rice. The whole reason for going
Get place to have a birthday dinner !
Phenomenal food and service as always, really made my birthday a lot of fun. Thank you!
The menu featured a wide variety and a lot of interesting takes. We had a range of palates among our table, but we were able to come up with a collection of dishes that pleased everyone.
