About Dockside Restaurant on York Harbor
The approach to the Dockside Restaurant is all part of the Dockside’s charm. You are treated to views of the York River and the grand “summer cottages” as you turn onto Harris Island Road to reach Dockside Restaurant.
The view is quintessential Maine, people hustling up and down the docks, gleaming yachts and colorful lobster boats in front of a rock and pine-tree shore.
Dockside is warm and comfortable. Hardwood floors, European style lighting floor to ceiling window and a new mahogany bar with an adjoining outdoor cocktail deck. During warm months seating is available on our harbor view screen porch. The atmosphere is casual but the food is serious.
Chef Dennis la Planet has been recognized as a “chef’s chef”. North Atlantic seafood prepared with a northern Italian influence and aged steaks are just the start. Lunch features organic salads, creative sandwiches and traditional favorites; fish and chips, chowders and fried clams too

Dockside Restaurant on York Harbor Ratings and Reviews
Eight of us who graduated from high school almost 50 years ago meet for dinner twice a year. I have a friend in York Harbor who frequently dines at Dockside with her family. My friend has always spoken highly of Dockside, so I suggested it to my classmates for our September 2017 dinner. We all enjoyed it, and the food was delicious. I expect that we'll return. Thank you.
Very disappointing. The boiled lobster was good(can't go wrong there), but risotto was mushy, over powered by garlic, and was placed on top of the salad. If our server had been more attentive( had to ask someone else for bread even), she might have noticed the full plate of risotto. She charged us for it anyway, even after telling her it was not edible. I approached the hostess who erased the charges, bur then literally threw the bill on our table! And did I mention we were celebrating a birthday? And they knew it. I guess the wedding party that they had was paying more! Never again
We were a little disappointed with our meals. Have been the last couple years and the food was very good. Two of us had a pork tbone chop and although they were large, there was a lot fat and the pork loin was not very tender. The third meal was salmon and was a bit over cooked. The fourth was the exception, a beef dish, and was very good.
I regretted not ordering one of the local fish options which probably would have been better choices.
The desserts were all delicious.
There are nice views of the harbor but unfortunately it was a foggy night.
We have been here for lunch on three different occasions first time we been here for dinner , food was good the service was OK the server could've been a little bit more attentive clearly she was very busy and there seem not to be very many servers working this was the Friday of Labor Day weekend definitely will go back. During the day at lunchtime the view is spectacular it's a must-see of the Maine coast .
Our family lives in the area and some of us are also in the restaurant business so we are well-versed in local eateries. The Dockside Restaurant is one of our favorites, both for the ambiance (overlooking York Harbor) and the excellent food. The service is excellent with friendly, attentive waitstaff. We recommend it highly.
As long as you're not in a hurry and don't mind chasing the waiters, this place is nice for a meal. Outside on the porch is very nice. However, the wait staff needs some training. We went for a 95th birthday. The waiter didn't even express "happy birthday" much less attend to us. So, don't look for any special attention. They can't handle 6 tables with 4 waiters. The food and ambiance were very good. The staff was awful.
This is a wonderful place and am sad that it took us 15 years to get back here. Sitting on the porch area is not only beautiful, but a bit less noise than inside seating. Amanda our server was very attentive and was excellent at explaining different menu options. The food was exceptional. We had 7 in our group and hit all the highlights including the Duck that my 13 year old son said was off the hook. Of course the seafood was fresh and great!! Would highly recommend a visit here next time you are in southern Maine.
Where to start ... I guess the first would be walking in the door and being greeted. Host could have been a lot friendlier.
We had made reservations online and when we got there and inquired about the screened in patio, we were told it was all reserved (although all but 2 tables empty) and that the patio only books 5:30 and 7:30 reservations.
I mentioned that I did not see that option on the online reservation system and was told by the host that "oh ya it's this little teeny option someone on the page, not very visible".
Our reservation was for 4 at 7pm, and as a side note, at least 3 patio tables were unfilled until 8ish. I get it, but don't at the same time.
Second, we did not get a server until having been seated for 10+ minutes. Other wait staff saw us (and it's not like they were 'in the weeds') choose, more like scoffed, at coming over and at the very least filling water and being polite.
When we did get our wait person (Jess I believe) she was very nice, attentive and helpful. Very positive experience. Kudos to her, and in her defense, apparently there as a mix-up and she was not informed about our table.
Third, the food. 2 of our party ordered the steamed 1-1/2 lbs lobster. Soaking wet they may have been a 1-1/2 pounds but I'm skeptical. But for $29.00 with 1/2 ear of corn (REALLY? 1/2 an ear, this is Maine?!!) and a small potato, you've got to be kidding me.
I had the duck, which I wish I could have the "chef" eat. Horrible really. It was really dry and flavorless. A real shame. (FWIW - try doing seared duck breast instead - and MEat in Kittery supplies a great duck breast.) Not worth the $30+ at all.
My wife had the drunken lobster; she enjoyed it, I however did not. Scallops only seared on one side. All in all, our guests enjoyed their lobster and the experience just the same but us not so.
Could be a good place but needs to come out of the 80's/90's and bring everything up a notch or 5 IMO.
Our meals were fantastic; I always end up getting the baked stuffed lobster because it's delicious, huge, and a great value! My wife got the Harris Island Haddock, which is her favorite too! Great service (Thanks, Delaney!) and reasonable prices! Our only regret? Going to a different restaurant the night before! Should have gone to Dockside both nights of our getaway!
