Always consistent, intimate atmosphere on the water, great service. Can't say enough. We go for every special occasion in our family!!
Dockside s a wonderful waterside restaurant that has a very peaceful location for visiting the Washington Capital. We had a wonderful and knowledgeable waitress - Sandra. The food was worth the value it leave off the desserts - a downturn on an otherwise excellent meal wine list represents the state wineries.
Most of food we had was good ( salmon, scallops, crab risotto, creme brulee ), however the potatoes that we got with the scallops were way too spicy as in too many different spices. They lost their direction and became confused of what flavor they should have by drowning in too many different spice flavorings.
Did not like the potatoes.
We can always count on Dockside to deliver a fabulous dining experience. Not only is Dockside the scene of my husband and my first date, but we were joined by first timers last night for dinner and they enjoyed dinner thoroughly. We vote Dockside to be in our top 3 Olympia restaurants.
We love this place. Go on special occasions. It's a time consuming meal but well worth it. Your finer restaurants are. One of the few places in Oly like this. We have a few favs in Seattle.
The staff here are always very friendly and provide great service. The menu is not large but what you get is always a great meal. It's nice to get duck that's cooked right and not greasy. It's a small place with a little outside seating and a quiet atmosphere. I have not been to one but I have seen large groups (10 to 15) people enjoying a wine tasting. This is my go to place for any special occasion or when I just want a great quiet meal and a walk along the boardwalk. Enjoy!
26th anniversary & service was exceptional. Seafood cocktail, served warm, was unique & flavorful but wouldn't order again. Not impressed with the Caesar salad but the beet salad was very nice. Bouillabaisse was flavorful but not enough broth, as if over-roasted; wouldn't order it again. Pear Gorgonzola Ravioli was pricy for the dish but very flavorful, wouldn't order again. Creme Brûlée was very good & Key Lime pie was yummy.
I arrived around 5:30 on a Sunday night for a quick dinner before driving up to SEA. I had called ahead to ask if they could get me out by 6:30 and they said no problem. Upon arrival, I was seated by the window, next to some beautiful glass sculptures and plants. Also, the waitress immediately acknowledged my time situation and took my drink order right away. I ordered the ling cod special and a side of vegetables, which arrived within 10'. Presentation was perfect, the fish was cooked exactly right (not overdone, as often happens in restaurants), I enjoyed the strawberry-onion salsa (sounds weird but tasted great with the "meaty" cod) and the farro with herbs. The vegetables had a tad too much oil for my taste but were fresh and cooked lightly which was good. Because of crazy I-5 traffic, no time for dessert. I look forward to going back. Clientele on Sunday early evening included a young couple with a child, several middle-aged couples, and several groups of 5-6. It was not noisy and everyone was treated nicely by the wait staff. I greatly appreciated the excellent service and very good meal. Looking forward to returning.
I was very disappointed in our overall experience at Dockside Bistro. From the food to the service, everything was just adequate.
Our server tried to put on a happy face, but she was really just in a hurry to be at our table. The time between our being seated and our waitress attending to us was a long time.
And the food, it was sadly just so so. The sauces were heavy and our dish did not look appealing.
We took some out of town foodie friends (they LOVE good food) the view of the boats and the water made them relax right away. The service was very good and timely. The cocktails before dinner were great and afforded us the time to choose the many tempting items on the menu.
Dinner was excellent and the food was prepared very well! They look forward to coming back!
Recently had dinner here with my wife and her parents, who recommended this place. Food was great; we had scallops, halibut, Elk two ways, a scallop & pork belly appetizer, and a couple of desserts. Reasonably priced, with a nice wine list. And we enjoyed the view of the nearby marina.
Had a mojito and a gin gimlet. Both were borderline terrible. The wine list was great, however. And the food was spectacular. Not impressed by the Crème Brûlée either. WAY too tall, in my opinion. Especially with the custard being rather thin and bland. I will go back though. Especially for the seafood martini and the duck.
Of the four meals we had three of them were just fine. My meal was served on a cold plate and the food went cold before I had time to eat any of it. The waitress said she would have it re-done. After 24 minutes waiting for the food I decided that it was too late and my appetite was gone. I will still frequent the restaurant.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Dockside Bistro -- we've been here several times before, and always liked it -- great wine list, interesting and delicious menu, but, the service on this night was truly outstanding. We never felt rushed, and they accommodated my severe dietary needs much better than the vast majority of good restaurants, and were nice about it. We even received an lovely anniversary card signed by ALL the staff. That was a super nice touch. The food was excellent -- I had the rack of lamb, my husband had filet mignon -- both cooked perfectly with fine sauces. I also had the elk carpaccio, which was fantastic -- tender and tasty.
Dockside Bistro had superb service and food quality that made my Wife's Birthday Night such a special experience. This is a Gem in Olympia to dine out!
Great night was enjoyed at the Dockside, although it was busy, staff attended to our needs and the food was fresh and tasty. We will return.
We had a lovely meal. The fish was cooked perfectly, the menu varied and interesting , waitstaff knowledgable and fun, tables spaced well so you don't feel packed in, right against the boardwalk & dock looking out on sailboats and water, we would go there again in a heartbeat. Quiet nice ambiance and decor.
This was the second time we had chosen Dockside to celebrate our anniv. When we arrived the hostess greeted us and was very friendly. She sat us at the table we had requested and the staff had all signed a card for us wishing us a Happy Anniv. Very nice touch. All of the food was very good as well as the bottle of wine we chose. We shared the razor clam appetizer as well as the mixed green salad with the goat cheese. Both were excellent. I had the seafood special and my husband had the halibut. Both of these entrees were very good. Too full for desert. Our server was Haley did an excellent job. We will definitely be dining there again soon.
We will try it again. My food was just OK and service was odd. Not bad, just odd
Without a doubt, one of the greatest restaurants my wife and I have ever been to.
OVER 5 STARS!
Superb food, superb service, beautiful ambience , and a most excellent wine list.
Highly recommend for a special evening..
These guys were absolutely great.
We are on a little exploration around Puget Sound in our boat. We stayed up in Winslow Bainbridge Island for a night and dined at the very forgettable Marche (review completed). A beautiful trip down the Sound brought us to Percival Landing in Olympia. We were looking close by, The Dockside seemed nice, got decent reviews so we tried it.
Great choice! The scallops and pork belly appetizer is just fabulous. Everything done just perfectly, a smoky flavor that complements the monster scallops. We then split the duck breast and a goat cheese salad, the duck done perfectly the salad fresh and delicious. My wife had Creme Brûlée for desert.
Service attentive, not overbearing. They did it all just right.
So, we went back for a second night, my birthday. We saw a couple of items on the menu that needed to be tried. I did mention it was my birthday (I hate to admit my 64th).
They began the meal with a birthday card signed by the staff, individually with personal messages. What a nice surprise!
We tried the scallops again and calamari, with spectacular dipping sauces, for the appetizers, went with the half rack of lamb and beet salad. Again, superb. Everything cooked exactly right, served at exactly the correct temperature, a great presentation, good service, what more can I say?
Even priced right. An intimate restaurant with a great view of the landing and the water. Don't hesitate, it is all good.
Thank you, we'll be back later this summer.
The bacon wrapped elk and scallops were second to none.
WE love this restuarant. The food is always wonderful and the service topnotch. Great location on the board walk in downtown Olympia. Good view of the sound. We will return again and again.
Fresh offerings of entrees complemented with perfectly prepared vegetables. Extensive wine list for any palate. Hot, crispy bread served upon arrival and refilled on request. Excellent service.
The duck was amazing. Everything was good but the duck was amazing. Great drinks, very nice people and good view of the sound.
We went for my wife's birthday and were pleasantly surprised by the inventive menu (the seafood martini is the best appetizer ever), great ambiance, quality of service and nice wine list. We will be back. We have been in the Olympia/Lacey area for one year and have found our "go to" preferred restaurant.
The menu was deceptively simple. We had a wonderful salad with goat cheese and candied nuts. The server was happy to accommodate the request to add salmon (Copper River). Everything about the salad was perfect, a generous portion of cheese, perfectly cooked salmon, and lightly dressed. I would return to the Docside Bistro anytime I have business in Olympia.
The food at the Dockside easily matches anything in downtown Seattle. Quality, fresh ingredients are combined into creative, beautiful and delicious dishes. A roasted beet salad was refreshing and bursting with flavor. Lamb dish was perfectly charred and topped with a huckleberry sauce and the pommes frites were hot and crisp. Crusted halibut with pesto gnocchi was a delightful combination of flavors. Spanish cava was a perfect compliment to all dishes. Two wait staff were busy but attentive and friendly. Save room for the key lime pie!
As stated above, excellent food and excellent service. Don't know what else you could possibly need to know. Had the Salmon poke for appetizer - slightly better than the poke we make at home.....which does actually say a lot as hubby is a salmon fisherman and a foodie. Entrees were black cod and lamb. The Cod was fantastic as was the lamb.
Great service, beautiful view and decor, and the I would recommend the Pear Gongonzola Ravioli.
First time here. What a great find. Pleasantly surprised in all areas. Started with a birthday card on the table signed by the staff for my husbands birthday! The food was amazing and all courses were served hot. It he service was extremely good also. Would highly recommend this great restaurant.
Before the last visit I would have highly recommended Dockside Bistro. I'd been twice before and had the Salmon BLT and it was wonderful. This time there were four of us for a special lunch. Two had the Caesar salad with crab, one had fish and chips, and one Pear and Gorgonzola Ravioli with Prawns. The ravioli was $21.00. It came with one little (two bites worth) prawn curled on top. That was it for the prawn. The pomme frites were way too salty, the fish had so much breading on it the plate going back at the end of the meal looked like it'd not been touched as the breading had been torn off and was piled high, and both who ordered the salad commented the dressing was so garlicky they were almost unable to eat it.
I was so enamored by the restaurant after the first visit on a rainy day - a fire was going - the Salmon BLT was so yummy as were the pomme frites that day. But four out of four having an issue (the one said her ravioli was good - just way over priced) is an issue in itself. Also we'd wanted to order bread to go with the ravioli but didn't see the waitress until lunch was almost over and it was too late. I'd go back once more and try something totally different and make the call then - but until then I'd not recommend it, sorry, no.
We just moved to Olympia last week. Needed a nice restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday. Selected Dockside because it was one of the few area restaurants on OpenTable and had very high ratings. We were not disappointed! Dockside is an excellent restaurant. I had the signature dish, the Crispy Duck..fabulous! My wife enjoyed / loved the fresh Halibut and the complimentary birthday dessert. Service was also excellent. We will visit Dockside often.
Creative dishes all around from the starters, to the salads and alsothe entrees. Veggies are cooked to perfection every time and the preparation of the proteins are always spot on too. They do a really nice key lime pie for dessert. The only thing this place lacks in my book is a GOOD chocolate dessert, in past visits I have tried their cocolate lava duo and it has been either cold in the middle or over-baked, so I learned to finish up my red wine with my entree!!
We have enjoyed Dockside Bistro 3-4 times per year since it opened. It is a great addition to the Olympia dining scene and we enjoy the food, service and locale. There is some variation in food and service quality from visit to visit but the quality of both the food and service keep us coming back. A couple of comments that will hopefully lead to the continued success of the restaurant: 1) the menu really needs an update. We've had all the entrees on the menu and although we enjoyed most it is really time for a change. It is getting harder and harder to find something that excites us to come back. Nightly specials are fine, but limited and often they are out of the special by the time we arrive to dine; 2) the servers seem like they are stretched to the max. Some additional coverage during peak hours would really boost the service level. We love Dockside Bistro look forward to coming back!
From the out side we where surprised at the view and the cozy interior . But the real surprise was just how good the food was!
Beautifully presented unexpected complexity and perfectly cooked. Service was friendly if a little inattentive but all in all four of us had a good time and enjoyed the experience.
The food was very good, but the wine list was outstanding!! There were actually several pages of wine listed from all over the world. The use of sustainable local food products is admirable!
I come to Olympia several times each year, and this has proven to be a reliable place for lunch or dinner. The menu gives a good choice selection of fish and meat, and I've tried several entrees and not been disappointed.
Had a great time. Wonderful food and service. The wine list is fantasitic as was the Basil Martini and Northwest Manhattan. We started with the prok belly and scallop appaetizer. It was superb. For our entre we selected the the halibut and the elk duet. Both were fantastic. The elk steak was a little small but had complex and robust flavors that made up for the size.
My friend and I were both disappointed in the food and neither of us finished our lunch. I ordered the crab chowder and a Ceasar salad; she ordered Vegan mushroom soup and calamari. Chowder and soup were too thick and too rich, the salad and calamari not that impressive. For the cost of our lunch, it was not a great value. I have dined here before and looked forward to celebrating a birthday lunch at a special place. I should have ordered the Seafood Martini, always a favorite!
