Food, view, and company were great. I wish the wait staff would have done something about the arguing couple before I had to. When the whole restaurant is following a conversation and talking about it, it is too loud and disruptive.
We love this place but last Sunday there was some drama going on at one table that included loud argumentative conversation and swearing. Hence the lower rating on ambiance. Would suggest a designated "de-escalator/bouncer" for each shift because in the presumed absence of that it seemed staff just ignored it. Finally a diner at the table near us went over and asked the couple to leave which they did and to their credit rather graciously.
Excellent food and great presentation! The service staff was attentive and friendly. Both the salmon and the duck were cooked perfectly. Made for a fun evening!
We are repeat customers, and thrilled to be so! Chef Laurie has a magical hand with fish, and it's always a delight to dine here. The menu is varied and tempting. Cocktails are creative and well-crafted. And the wine list is diverse and very fairly priced. Thanks for a wonderful meal!
Excellent food although a bit expensive. Service was very friendly but a bit slow. All and all I would highly recommend; especially for any special occasion.
Made a reservation. Walked in to a sign saying "if you are not greeted at the door enter the main dining room and you will be greated". Stood in the dining room for 10 minutes before being acknowledged. Finally got our table and sat for 10 minutes with no service. We did not get the whole experience, we decided to leave.
We both eat a Ketogenic Diet and it would be nice to have more flexibility in the menu.
Traveled to Olympia to celebrate nieces engagement. Decided on Dockside. Location was great. Service was horrible. Waiter showed zero desire to be there. Two of the four meals came out wrong. We did send one back and second time was right. Ordered one creme brûlée that was so hard literally could have broke a tooth. The chocolate cake was better but pretty dry. Definitely was not a $250 meal.
I had a special of the day duck with a wonderful sauce. This was one of the best meals I have ever had.
We have been to this restaurant a few times. Excellent fine dining.
Finest restaurant in region. We have dined around the world. Dockside compares well to the best internationally. Halibut, salmon, short ribs all perfectly done, creatively presented. Note we don't use beverage alcohol so cannot judge but appears to have an excellent cellar.
I have never been disappointed when I have been here. They gladly substituted the potato for more veggies. The fillet mignon was de-lish.
It was a nice relaxed Birthday dinner. I had ordered flowers to be at our table when we arrived and they were there waiting. As a result of an apparent special occasion, we were seated at a quiet table at the end of the upper level....NICE.
Food, (Halibut and Elk Duo were great), service and the recommended wine by the server was a good selection.
Have been to the Bockside several times, and will definately be there again.
I always enjoy dining here for a special occasion and it has become my parents' favorite restaurant for a special meal out when they come up from Portland to visit. We had the duck special the other night and it was fabulous!
A perfect venue for a special meal. Outstanding fish dishes.
As always a predictably excellent meal and eclectic menu. Our NY guest thoroughly enjoyed it! Always an excellent experience
What a pleasant surprise. This was our first time to the restaurant and we couldn't have been more pleased. Our server Haley was absolutely fantastic and made the experience even more enjoyable. The food was spectacular and we loved the selections. We will be back to try more!
One of the best dinners we've had @ Dockside last night: two creative halibut dishes--one with nettle puree, morel risotto, and seabeans; another encrusted with parmesan--were wonderful on a sultry evening. Server kindly helped us choose the best wine pairing for the out-of the ordinary ingredients. And you can't go wrong with the Humboldt Fog blue cheese salad--a winner, as always. Looking forward to enjoying more of this chef's new portfolio of dishes and the courteous crew.
Pro's: interesting well prepared entres, good wine list at reasonable prices, right on the water.
Con's: poor imitation of a Caesar salad with a watery mayo and lemon juice dressing, gummy white baguette - imagine if Wonderbread made a baguette.
This was my fourth visit, I always get a seafood martini appetizer. My wife and I both had the scallops. Although the accompanying potato was hot, both of our scallops were cooked perfectly, but not hot.
Very attentive service. Great location on the harbor.
Most amazing service I've probably ever had, along with great drinks and food. Will definitely be returning.
Nice, quiet place with an interesting menu. Very seafood oriented. No two dishes where alike. Great wine list and very knowledgeable servers, who provided great service. Most servings are generous, but one dish we had was a little scant. The molten cake wasn't properly melted, but the rest of the desserts were very well received. I intend to go back, if just to try the encrusted fish a friend wouldn't share.
We had not been to dockside for a few years. We love the menu we love the location however on our most recent visit the good wasn't quite up to what we remember. The seafood martini and beer salad was great but the duck was really missing something. They are starting a new happy hour and we hope that this will help revitalize the place
Always enjoy the food and ambiance but I'm not sure we like the proposed changes in hours/format.
Terrific food, warm service and a great view of the Olympia waterfront
Sadly not up to par of the reviews. Overcooked AND cold Elk Duet. Bad wine. No hostess. Very slow. Our server was good. She made the evening tolerable as well as the young man that seated us early. They need help with staffing the back up positions. Servers can NOT do everything.
Great food, great service. Ten stars.
Mixed drinks were poorly made. Decor seems outdated and dusty (most the plants in the dining area were dead.) We went during lunch and everyone had the fish tacos which were good!.. but overpriced, as were the appetizers.
creative and well-prepared meals every time - the freshest fish - great cocktails - plus staff is always friendly too.....
We had a delightful meal, probably the best halibut I've ever had in my life, great service and the place to go for leisurely fine dining
Went on a date on a sunny saturday evening. They had great food and great service. Right on the water. I highly recommend.
Fantastic food, great cocktails, amazing service. The entire staff was very helpful always friendly.
better than expected. extremely friendly, great menu
Some of the best food I've had in WA. This place is a hidden gem. The menu price point is a bit high for the menu items but the flavor makes my complaining feel hollow.
The food was really good, but the service wasn't the best. When my boyfriend and I sat at the bar to get a drink, while we waited for our table, we were ignored. There was only one other couple sitting there.
We still never got our drink, we were asked to be seated at our table. Again, we had to wait.
Service was polite as timely. My wife had the lamb which was good and nicely prepared. I had the Gorgonzola ravioli. It was not distinctive. Meal was okay but not special.
Food was great as usual but the service was below par. When the bill comes you always want your experience to be equal to the bill and the service was below standards.
Excellent as always! Food is always amazing here and the wait staff are great. Seafood martini is a must.
Very accommodating for food allergy and special requests. Excellent service & high quality food. The restaurant was quiet and great for conversation. Only item that could have gone better was our table was for 6 and we were a party of 4. Would have preferred a smaller table that was more intimate.
We went to Dockside Bistro on a rainy Thursday night for a birthday celebration. It was quiet and peaceful and perfect. I wasn't going to eat beef, but I couldn't resist the special which was beef short ribs with ratatouille. It was wonderful. My partner eats gluten free and he had the salmon which he said was very good. We also had the crab chowder. The portion on the chowder seemed a bit small, but maybe the bowl was too big. It was delicious and we would have eaten as much as they would have allowed. The service was slow and a bit forgetful, but we were compensated for that without asking which was nice. I'm not from Olympia, but I will go back just to eat at Dockside.
