About

Doc Ricketts in San Francisco, California takes its name from Ed Ricketts, the marine biologist who was a friend of John Steinbeck, and inspired the character, Doc, in "Cannery Row." You won't find a huge menu at Doc Ricketts, but anything you order will be perfectly cooked and attractively presented. Try the ahi tuna tartare or butternut squash soup to start, or perhaps some spiced nuts or mixed olives.

For entres at Doc Ricketts, you can enjoy flounder, gnocchi Parisienne, pork loin, hanger steak, roasted chicken or a ground short rib burger. A variety of desserts and after-dinner cocktails are also available.

As foodies, we couldn't have been happier. Phenomenal dinner, best oysters we've ever had and the manager walked us downstairs during dinner to pick our table for the music venue downstairs. I got called "the perfect date" by my wife of 13 years...

I love Doc Rickett's. Consistently great food and service. Nice people. A little noisy but a great neighborhood place.

This is one of my 'go-tos' that I take clients- great cozy atmosphere, usually I have fantastic service & the food is consistently good.... but last week they had ONE server for the entire place + 1 bartender/manager(?) & as we were sitting outside, she forgot about us. So, I had to go in to remind them that no one has been by & we wanted to order. Not a big deal, but If she had just *owned* the oversight with a quick & sincere apology, "So sorry, but I'm by myself today.", the whole experience could have changed, but instead she walked up & ignored it, asking if we were ready to order. Um, what!? We've been sitting out here for 15 minutes, YES we are ready to order. :-( Hopefully in the future their servers are trained to simply acknowledge a mistake. I waited tables in college & understand how crazy it can get. An apology goes a long way. Luckily the manager/ bartender was very courteous. I'm sure it was just a 1-time thing.

The non-potato gnocchi was interesting and delicious. Pork belly appetizer was great. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I felt inadequately hip, but they were welcoming nonetheless.

I had a wonderful meal with great service when I was traveling on my own in San Francisco. The menu is small but interesting and the waiter helped me make great selections for both food and wine. What fun!
