Based on the iconic 1900s oyster house style, Doc Magrogan's Oyster House in West Chester, PA emphasizes only the freshest seafood while also offering a huge array of handcrafted beer and artisan cocktails.

We live in France, are here visiting family and house hunting. Dropped by for lunch last Sunday, had a fabulous experience: Delightful host, great waitress, wonderful setting, a delicious assortment of oysters, Bloody Mary's, fine white wines and Cioppino, always a favorite of mine. We will definitely be back!

Great Oyster Selection.
Service was a bit slow and chaotic. Initially the wrong order was brought to our table.

Visited my daughter at West Chester and invited friends for oysters and dinner. Great drinks, fresh oysters and supper food made the visit memorable. We will be back again and again.

I really wanted this to be a great spot. It' easy to get to and park. The decor is attractive but the service was lackluster and the portion sizes were small. The oysters were cold and tasty and I enjoyed them. I just felt for the price the food was not remarkable.

Doc's created a romantic and intimate dining experience. The food was excellent and the service was among some of the best in West Chester. I would definitely return for a late-night dinner.

We were seated next to a closet door that was drafty on the coldest night of the year. Asked waitress if there was something we could lean against it and she said she'd find the key to lock it but she never did. We ended up pulling a chair over to hold it closed. Waitress also did not confirm whether my boyfriend wanted the same drink for a second round and ended up bringing him something he didn't want. I would think wait staff would be more attentive on Valentine's Day weekend.

We have been to Doc Magrogan's before and decided to return. Our meal was a mixed bag. Our appetizers, Peel & Eat Shrimp and Seafood Bisque, were very good. As for the main course, the Asian Chicken Salad was plentiful, but the dressing far too salty. The combination seafood platter was very good, but for the price, there should have been a larger portion. Our server, Katrina, was excellent. Overall, it had highs and mid-points, so we'd give it a B or B- overall (since you really want the main courses to be high point of the meal, not the appetizers).

It was the night before the Superbowl, but still. We had a reservation but waited a half hour for a table. The place was cold and loud. The "bowl" of chowder was smaller than some cups served in other places. We both had the Ahi tuna which was cold (not suppose to be, I think) and very undercooked. Our two pieces were so different in size, thickness, etc. you'd think they were from different restaurants. We really use to like coming here a lot but we don't understand what's happened lately. Too bad, not many alternatives for seafood in the area. We'll give it a rest and try again in a few months.

We are regular customers and this is the first time I've been disappointed. The fish I ordered was the smallest portion I've ever been served as an entree. I actually checked to see if I had accidentally ordered an appetizer, but no, I was charged a full entree price. Went to get a snack afterwards.

Service was slow, waited 45 minutes for cold food. A co-worker went the next evening for dinner and experienced the same type of service and cold food.

Great food and great company made for a great dinner. Service was a little slow and we did have an issue was the taste of one beer which they corrected. Overall, highly recommend.

California fish tacos were delicious with mahi mahi, cabbage and avocado. We also had mussels, oysters on the half shell, calamari and seafood salad. Calamari was tender and lightly battered. All of our food was perfectly cooked. Our waiter was attentive.

I ordered the pan-seared scallops and they didn't come out as they should - no sear and the texture was off, as if the pan wasn't hot enough for a sear. I sent them back and ordered tuna tacos as a substitute. Our waitress offered the lunch size (2) or dinner size (3). I went with the smaller portion but was charged for the dinner size instead. My wife ordered a side of corn with her entree, which came out 10 minutes after her entree was served.

Came in on new year's night and was extremely quiet for a Friday. Might have been only one or two other tables in the entire restaurant so was a nice and quiet night for dinner. Service was excellent as well.

I have visited Doc Magrogans many times, and have lived in West Chester many years. Every time I have come in the past I've been treated with respect. However, my past experience was terrible. My friends and I are all 21-22 years of age and go to a prestigious university, and therefore are respectable people that use manners when speaking to ANYONE. I grew up in WC, and when my friends suggested dinner in town I immediately suggested Docs because in the past I've enjoyed it so much. Our waiter treated us like children, bringing 2 wine glasses instead of 3 after checking 3 IDs harder then I have ever seen -- and I word at a bar. Upon going to the bar, I saw that it had multiple glasses, and I had to ask for one for myself in order to get one. He ignored many requests for things that we needed, such as water and bread, and we became frustrated. The results were a cruel tip, however we believe that multiple servers, as well as the restaurant itself, put on a terrible performance.
