Doc Ford’s – Captiva
Come experience tropical flavors from the Caribbean Rim
Food and service are always a pleasure to experience. Yukatan shrimp dish the best!
Unfortunately allergies are not taken seriously at this restaurant. There is a big difference between diet where people choose to avoid bread and people who literally get sick from gluten. I informed waitress about gluten allergies and yet my appetizer arrived with bread on top of it.... worst part was the waitress response to my disappointment, she suggested to just take it off... well, unfortunately it is not an option for someone with gluten allergies. Main dish was a fiasco as well. Since I didn't have gluten free options for a taco or sandwich, I ordered just a plain piece of fish. A lonely piece of fish arrived on empty plate and the worst part was that it was the tail. I was surprised that the chef thought it was appropriate to put worst part of the fish on the plate where it was so obvious. I wonder what they put in the tacos then. Needless to say that I didn't enjoy my meal at this place.
Very clean and servers are quick and pleasant. Sit on the lovely patio. Eat and peel shrimp are wonderful.
Best food on the island
Host was rude.
Great food and atmosphere.
Biked to Doc Ford’s for a mid-day lunch. Amanda, our server, took excellent care of us! Food was fresh and delicious, music on porch entertaining.
Enjoyed the food and the atmosphere EXCEPT that the live music, which was good, was way too loud. We could not really have a conversation and were happy to have some quiet when the left .
Tasty food and quick service
Crabcakes were good; thoroughly enjoyed my Cuban sandwich. Mojito was delicious. We weren’t seated in the greatest part of the restaurant, hence my low ambience score . Then outside seating with entertainment would be have been preferable.
Waitress was excellent
Good selection of drinks!
Salads were delicious
Great spot for dining outside on a beautiful day. Lots of TV’s to take in your sport event with friends and family.
First time at South Seas Resort and ate here as soon as we arrived. Ray, our server, was phenomenal. Food was delicious! We ended up here for food or drinks every night of our trip.
The Yucatán Shrimp are to die for!
Amanda, our waitress, was outstanding in service and knowledge about the meals and cocktails. Food was outstanding. The grouper fingers a great choice as was the snapper special with shrimp and lobster. I would recommend this place!
Went there for a light brunch easter morning prior to spending a bit of time on Sanibel and Captiva. Not our first time at Doc Fodr’s. Always enhoy the ambience, and the food is well prepared. Not haute cuisine but a great meal. If you are looking for island food a good place to come. They have certainly added some special touches in terms of spices and sourcing. Of course RWWs books are for sale - and if you haven’t yet read one that is another reason to go by.
Only eat outside here. The inside is old looking and ugly with spartan decor. Food overall is very good, as is service. Unfortunately there was loud live music for lunch that made conversation difficult.
Restaurant is listed under South Sea Island Resort.
Purposely booked here to see the resort and it is NOT on their property.
There is a gate and only residents are allowed through.
Everything we ordered was good.calamari app was great.
A few of us had grouper sandwich; it was very fresh. Best dessert was banana bread pudding: was surprisingly good. Big enough to share.
Loved the shrimp and loved the stone crab; even the house salad exceeded expectations.
Excellent food and service!
We had an outside table where there was live entertainment. The service was quick and the food was excellent. We were very pleased with this restaurant.
Waited 15 minutes at the table and couldn't get a server.
Doc Ford's is synonymous with tasty food and a wide array of fun beverages. This particular location does not have quite the frozen drink selection as the Fort Myers Beach location, but still many wonderful choices.
I highly recommend the Yucatan seasoning if you love shrimp.
Gluten free options abound.
Service was great! Real knowledge of how to treat patrons.fun drink menus and if you like Mojitos try one- yum! Everyone happy with meals: shrimps grits delicious, fish tacos very good maybe some guacamole or avacado would be a nice addition quinoa salad a nice healthy option- atmosphere lacked any kind of charm; I know it's a newer location but I felt like I was eating in a cafeteria; I like a it of ambiance or vacation flair when I venture out
Best fish sandwich -- basal!
Service was outstanding.
This was our first visit to this restaurant and we expected it to be a little more formal but we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. We were impressed by the food. Service was OK but the reservation staff led us to believe that tables were scarce and we would loose our reservation if we were late. When we arrived, the place was half empty and remained so until we left. The hostess didn't even ask if we had a reservation and immediately seated us at one of the many empty tables. Not good form.
This year we came for lunch on Christmas Day. The staff were friendly and fun and the mood was relaxed. There were couples and families and someone had brought their dog. People were dressed up and others were in running gear. The food was delicious. We had the perfect Christmas Day lunch!
Great food. Fresh and plentiful.
Many choices on this extensive menu. We have been here a number of times and we have been satisfied with everything we have ordered.
We reserved a table at this newer location for Doc Fords in late afternoon, 3:45 pm which was supposedly the only open time that they had. This was simply not true, there was plenty of room well after that time, even after 5 pm. So, call ahead instead of using Open Table online, as the times we were provided were simply not correct regarding reservations.
Went for lunch. Creative menu, tasty and fresh food. Server was efficient, friendly and genuine.
Doc Ford's is a great place to enjoy the Sanibel/Captiva atmosphere Both restaurants have a fun vibe and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The food and drinks are reasonable and good. The Key Lime pie is the best we've had in that part of Florida.
Really nice relaxing atmosphere and excellent food!
What a fun - and yummy!! - lunch we had Doc Ford's on Captiva!!! The service was extraordinary - the food was delicious - and the outdoor seating was just what we wanted! Thank you for the perfect remedy for the Winter doldrums . . . we'll be revisiting Doc's again soon!!
The food and eservice were good. The ambiance was non existent. I would not recommend it to anyone who may b e looking for a beachy Florida like experience. The noise level was deafening.
We were staying at the resort next door and wanted something off-campus. Doc Fords was rated #1 on Captiva so we gave it a shot. Very nice atmosphere but we can see it would be energetic during high season. Ordered the Crab Cake appetizer and we split the Seafood Paella. Had the Carrot Cake for dessert and we walked away stuffed! Both the food and beverage prices were reasonable. The chef came out to greet us which was a nice touch.
So go ahead and give them a try.
We've had the occasion to visit both of the Doc Ford's establishments in Captiva and Sanibel and find the food, atmosphere and service to be consistent. My husband is a huge fan of Randy White and his books (he's read them all but not the ghost writer versions yet) so our server was terrific and supplied the information he requested. The food was pleasing and the fish was fresh an tasty. We'll be back when we visit next year.
Loved our dinner here so went back the next night. Fish specials were amazing. Peel n eat shrimp another favorite. Service was top notch. Loved the Rum drinks too! Not too outrageously priced. Great if you're staying at South seas.
This was our first time at Doc Ford's but we will be back for the Shrimp and Grits and Boneless Pork Ribeye! Both dishes were outstanding!
Doc Ford's also had one of the best Conch Chowders I have had so far in Florida.
