Doc Bales' Grill
False advertising!!!! I was attending function in the hotel ball room with a couple of friends. Went on line to look at the restaurant choices in the hotel. Doc Bales had a very nice menu with a variety of options so we chose it to meet for a drink and a bite before the event. When we arrive we asked to see the menu and was told there was, only a buffet available. I asked about the menu I saw on their site and was told that it was only available Monday through Thursday. Not good!!!!!! So we left and went to another restaurant, Hyde Park Grille which was very accommodating and a nice variety appetizers and small bites. Just what we were looking for. Solomon if ever in the Hilton on Daytona Beach, go to Hyde Park......not Doc Bales...
Weekend getaway for Hubby’s bday.
Doc Bales was a good restaurant! The food was really good and plentiful, also cooked perfectly! The restaurant was well appointed and the crab legs were amazing! All you can eat Friday and Saturday! The wait staff was great and so was the manager! We would eat there again! Great trip!
Great and waiter was also very good.
Way to over priced for the quality. Not as formal of a restaurant as advertised.
We had a coupon 2 for $90. The crab legs were great and the seafood mac and cheese. We would go again when there is a another coupon.
Great brunch buffet setup, cool eating brunch and looking at the Atlantic Ocean, valet parking was convenient too!! Keep up the good work!!!
It was a redo for my daughter’s birthday which was March 1. They did an amazing job making us feel welcome and loved
Beautiful oceanfront location in the Hilton. Not able to order from the normal menu, buffet only. One person in our party only wanted a salad but was forced to spend $40 for the full buffet. Food hit or miss. Lobster bisque was wonderful, fried grouper overcooked and dry. Most other dishes good but not great. Good dessert selection but desserts not labeled so you're left guessing.
Not worth the $29.95. Only one Mimosa with food. Small selection of food.
Service was wonderful, we actually went twice because we had vouchers. Wouldn't pay for it though. Cold prime rib, mediocre selection.. Meh.
Amazing experience, wonderful food. Sean our waiter was out of this world in customer service a shout out to him!!!! Go on seafood buffet night a little pricey but worth every dime you spend. Also ask for Sean.
We turned up for our confirmed reservation, to find the restaurant closed! It would have been helpful to have been informed
Seafood buffet was a bit pricey. Food was not bad. Breakfast buffet was good. For a hotel restaurant, it was okay.
We are regulars as Doc Bales but this night when we had guests with us was a disappointment. The waiter we had did not know anything about wine service. The waiter we usually have, Oscar, had to show our waiter what to do when a bottle of wine is ordered. Our waiter basically disappeared for rest of the time we were there. When going by our table Oscar would see our wine glasses were empty and refill them. He even removed dirty plates from the table that were stacking up that our waiter did not remove. Our guests were never offered more coffee or tea throughout the dinner although their cup and glass were empty. If it were not for Oscar our dining experience would have been a complete disaster. The waiter did show up when we were finished eating to present us with a bill. We gave Oscar the bulk of the tip in cash as he did more for us then our assigned waiter. Not sure I will take guests there again unless I know who our waiter is in advance.
Was excited about being near the beach and having some good seafood. It was Saturday and they had nothing available but a prime rib and snow crab leg buffet, which was $50. When I asked if I could order from a menu, waiter said he could bring one from the Mexican restaurant in the same hotel. I decided to do the buffet, minus the crab legs, which made it cheaper. The food looked like it had been out for awhile. The prime rib was not hot, there were few options for vegetables, and the salad bar was almost empty and was a mess. The chicken was good, but the grouper was chewy and tasteless. Our waiter was attentive at first, then he disappeared. I wanted a second glass of wine but he never came back until we were almost done. A huge disappointment and definitely not worth the price. We would not go back.
Old tired place / Saturday Buffett was only choice but food was descent.
Very poor selection, wait staff not attentive, presentation at the buffet was horrible for the $$$. One person slicing the prime rib and asked a question and he seemed annoyed that I spoke with him. Only went due to Hyde Park was not available... Never go back.
Selection was NOT as advertised, fried oysters tasted nothing like oysters and could have been fried shoe laces. Raw oysters were poorly shucked and had a lot of shell in them. Seafood stew/Cioppino had very unpleasant sand in it. Some pieces of seafood tasted very bland while others were covered in black pepper. The few pieces of seared tuna in the (tossed?) salad Nicoise were cooked through and also had a crust of ground black pepper, while the potatoes were undercooked. Dinner rolls had a hard top, as if sitting under a heat lamp too long. The Mahi was so overcooked it turned into a hard piece of inedible something. The potato stack was undercooked in the middle and only a few layers were edible. Good was the smoked Lax (most likely not done in-house) and the grilled asparagus. I wondered if the wait staff was usually on other duty; most of them had no idea of what they were doing. If I put my fork down for more than 15 seconds, somebody was ready to take away my plate. A couple on a neighboring table had a loud argument (f-bombs) with a chair thrown across the aisle. It was a sad affair and I deeply regretted my choice. Upon my complaints I was given a 15% discount ($18.75) which brought the bill down to roughly $150 for 2 people, without any extra drinks. I must say I had better food at a Chinese buffet for $15/person. Add $10 for 2 drinks, tip and tax, and save $100. Never again will I go to any buffet they offer.
Everything was traffic. Our waiter was great. Food was great
The last time we ate here, the service was very slow - we were going to a show at the Peabody, and had to rush out. This time we had a great waiter, Tshering, who was attentive and polite, and brought our meals in a timely fashion. The food was also very good. We will definitely try Doc Bales again.
Thank you for your review Marilyn! We apologize for your first time experience and appreciate you giving our restaurant and hotel the chance to Make It Right! We are proud to have Tshering as part of our team and look forward to recognizing him for a job well done. We thank you for your patronage and anxiously await your return. The food was awesome and our waiter was great!!!!!
Christmas dinner, the food was great, our server was terrible. But the manager did compensate for our misfortune
It was good. Prime rib was over seasoned. Great service. Overpriced for quality of items.
Seafood and prime rib buffet on Saturday night. 50 dollars per person. Also cold shrimp (peeled but not spiced), fried fish, New Orleans seafood boil, mashed potatoes, excellent seafood bisque, and more. Salad options were limited during our visit due to Romaine lettuce issues but Cole slaw was cold and crunchy.
I don't eat prime rib but my better half rated as excellent. The crab legs were warm and not over cooked. The mashed potatoes were tasty and included roasted onions. Crab balls were chewy but that was from holding pan.
Desserts were small portioned. Had a warm cobbler but no ice cream.
Might be back.
Since we moved to Florida in 2015, we visit the restaurant for the buffet. The best we have found for prime rib and crab legs. We now travel 30 miles to Daytona for an occasional dinner.
Buffet was pricey and limited menu choices if you didn’t want the buffet
It is so hot in the restaurant that you sweat while seated at the table. Ask if air could be turned on and staff replied I wish as they tanned themselves and wiped the sweat of their face. At a $50 price point that is unacceptable as you are so uncomfortable you don’t enjoy the meal or ambience
Terrible service I’ll never go back horrible horrible very disappointed
The crab legs and the dessert were the best part of the meal. There wasnt much else on the menu that blew my mind. The rest was average food. But the service was excellent! Overall a great night. Will come back again.
Had the seafood buffet on Saturday 8-4-2018, and it is a great deal for all you can eat meal with crab legs, Prime rib, etc.
The cocktail prices are a little high but we are use to the Daytona Moose Lodge prices on W. Granada Blvd, in Ormond Beach,FL.
Be sure and try it , it is great
Went for the seafood buffet, good was great, Toni our waitress was awesome.
They provided a restricted menu that they kept mixing up with another. It took two waiters to figure out which one we could order from. With only two other occupied tables in the dining area, service was unbelievably slow. Refills on drinks were never offered, and we had to ask for the bill that took another ten minutes to pay.
This was our first and last visit. There are are too many restaurants with better service in Ormond/Daytona Beach to bother with this one.
4th of July menu was a neat idea, but poorly executed. Cheap buns, limited food items, over priced for what you got, and overall waste of money for what you got. I love the prime rib and seafood buffet and would have preferred to have that for a higher price than this menu.
Crab legs and prime rib were delicious as always. Price increase of $10 per person (from $80 to $100 for two people) was unexpected.
Have been there 4 times now and food was great but the bartenders can’t make a drink, and not enough waitresses to take care of the people, that was not good!!
I took my mother here for the Saturday night seafood buffet. She loves crab legs, and these were, by far, the best crab legs we’ve ever eaten. Our reserved table was waiting for us when we arrived with a beautiful oceanfront view. The drinks were very good as well. Highly recommended!
We stayed st the Daytona Beach Hilton 5 times this year. We love eating st the Doc Bales’ Grill. Everyone is so friendly and great service. Every morning or anytime you walk by the girls all greet you with the biggest smiles. Very welcoming and a great access to the Hilton. Everyone at the Hilton is so friendly.
We had the seafood buffet and the things that were suppose to be hot stent and vise versa. The desert was horrible..Would have loved a salad bar..there was no lectuce.Wouldnot come back.
Did not know was a buffet style until seated. Food was ok but selection low based on price. Wine and champagne was served warm so sent back. Would not recommend or return
