What a pleasant surprise!
My husband and I drove from the Fox Valley-area to Jumer's yesterday for a spur-of-the-moment getaway. We booked a room and made a reservation at DJ's via Open Table.
We were seated promptly by very friendly staff. The restaurant was well-appointed, cozy booths lined the room and it was a warm, comfortable atmosphere.
After our server described the 14-ounce Coulotte Sirloin, we both ordered it (rare and medium-rare) along with grilled asparagus and sauteed mushrooms to share. We also ordered a bottle of 19 Crimes Zinfandel.
The wine was very good but the food was excellent!
I knew going into it that I'd never be able to eat all the steak, but my husband finished his, declaring it "fantastic", and I have lunch for a couple days.
The service was attentive without being intrusive, wine glasses were refilled appropriately and we left well wined and dined.
We will definitely return.
The food was only mediocre in comparison to the cost.
We went here for Valentines Day. Good selection of wines. I had risotto with scallops. It was a huge portion. Then to start I had butternut squash soup . All really good. My husband had their ribeye with the Caesar salad. This was very good he said. Our waitress was very attentive. We have eaten here once a year probably since it opened. Good place for fine dining.
The food at DJ's has been consistently good, every time we have been there. The interior design is very nice, and very stylish. It looks like a place where one would go on a date, or have a romantic meal. The reason I don't give 5 stars is that even though some things point to fine dining, and a romantic, date-like atmosphere, others do not. My husband and I dress up for a fine dining establishments. This restaurant looks like one, and the food is certainly of that quality, but most of the patrons are in jeans, sweatshirts, etc., since it is in a casino, which gives the restaurant a very casual atmosphere. Also, the service is good, sometimes very good, but the servers miss a few of the fine dining services one typically finds at a fine dining establishment. A couple of examples are: bringing the next course while one is still eating the previous course and expecting the customer to shuffle the plates around, and then letting the new course get cold or hot while finishing the previous course. The second is: never refilling wine glasses (in our experience). We believe in paying accordingly for fine dining, but when prices and ambiance say fine dining, and service and dress code say diner, we're not as happy with the high prices charged at this restaurant, when other fine dining establishments in the area do it all. We come back to DJ's periodically, mainly because we like the food. We just don't come often because it seems to be neither fish nor fowl. We feel awkward arriving in our nice clothes when most others are in the most casual clothes, but we would also feel awkward going to this restaurant of great food and a "fancy" atmosphere in jeans and a sweatshirt. When paying high prices, we want the entire package.
Food was very good, very expensive, not sure the food was good enough for the price. Probably would not go there again. Not very busy to be reservation only.
Our waitress was and is ALWAYS amazing. I draw a blank of her name, (she has dark hair, and was also working the bar, but took the time to wait our table because we requested for her to be our server ... the other waitress was also nice because she kindly had no issue with her waiting our table since our waitress was actually assigned to the bar)...but she always makes our dining experience top-notch for we’ve had her a few times now and we look forward to it every time we visit the Jumers. We send our thanks to her and DJs.
Very nice meal with great service cold drinks and close to our rooms
Staff was very nice, food was excellent, but drink service was very slow and the atmosphere did not seem high end.
Decor is dated and there were people wearing baseball hats and hoodies in a fine dining steakhouse... might need a dress code.
Food was amazing ! Also our server was wonderful, very friendly and definitely would love to come back.
Would not recommend, sells itself as high end and it is not from the service to the food.
Everything was great. Especially the meal.
Great service, food, drinks and atmosphere. My favorite restaurant.
drinks are a little higher than I like. If you gamble you should get cheaper prices. we all had steaks that were good. My wife ordered med well and I ordered medium fillet. Mine was great my wifes a little too done. Bill was $150 for 3 people and I was the only one with a drink and it was a beer. $5.50 for a mich ultra is a stretch.
We live 2 1/2 hours away but we make a point of eating at DJ's whenever we go to Jumer's
It took 20 minutes for our waitress to take our order and we were seated immediately at 5pm. Service was slow and all wait staff stood behind the bar caring on loud conversations during service. Female Bartender very loud and boisterous . Have eaten there over the years, owners or management must have changed. We paid $9 for a Cesar salad that was half the size of what we use to have and no longer made the Parmesan basket for the salad.
We have eaten there several times in the last few months. The food is amazing. I have tried all their steaks & everyone of their cuts are delicious. The last filet I got there you could actually cut it with a fork. We have taken several people there recently and all of them have raved about their meal. I will be returning shortly. I might add all the steaks have been cooked to perfection
Food is expensive, but good. Lately it had been pretty slow, so don't eat here if you're in a hurry. It's a good restaurant to sit and talk while you wait for your food.
Staff seemed disorganized . We had 6:30 dinner reservations and they were still setting up tables. We waited 10 min for table to be set.
Extremely pricey. We had a two for one coupon and the bill with tip was still $130.00. That was with just two glasses of wine. I've had better New York strips for $25.00. These were $43.00. Our waitress was wearing a temporary badge. She was confused most of the time and very slow. Not what you would expect at a restaurant with those prices. I just couldn't imagine paying $260 for that meal.
The prices were pretty high for the amount of food. Service was not very good. There was quite a wait just for bread to be served. We went right when they opened and they didn't even have any ready for a long time. Our waitress wasn't very attentive. I couldn't even get a straw. I asked twice and my husband had to go to the bar and get it himself. She wasn't really very friendly. The food was good but not an enjoyable experience like we expected. We were kind of anxious to leave and get it over with. Not our usual expectation of a nice dinner.
