Dizz's As Is Restaurant
The waitress was very pleasant, but not adept at her job. I asked if we could please have 3 bills for the 4 of us (my husband & I were on 1) and she said "yes". My husband's water was to have no ice and it arrived with ice. She poured my husbands wine into the wrong shaped wine glass and had to change glasses. She asked 2 of us how we wanted our rack of lamb cooked (medium rare and rare) and then it came out barely cooked. I had explained we needed to leave about 7PM because we had Laguna Playhouse 7:30PM show tickets. When she brought the bill, she hadn't made it in 3 parts like she had said she would. She went to fix it and I ended up having to go to her, another person helped her, we paid, and got to the show JUST before it started. Needless to say, we were not happy with her service and really shouldn't have left her any gratuity (but we did)!
We've been dining at Dizz's for over 30 years, and consider it one of our favorite south Orange County restaurants. The setting is a bit worn, and certainly eclectic, but the food is excellent, and the experience worth the drive to south Laguna Beach. That being said, dining at Dizz's on the Saturday before Mother's Day was probably a mistake, as the place was the most crowded that we've ever seen. Even with a reservation, the wait was close to 30 minutes, and that short only because we consented to eat outside on the patio. Immediately adjacent to Coast Highway, it's not the most idyllic spot to dine, with road noise impacting both conversation and the atmosphere. The wait staff did their best to keep up, but service was exceedingly slow, and we waited 20 minutes before we were given menus or water, and another 15 minutes before we were able to place a drink order. Once we ordered our food, the wait was again well over 40 minutes before it arrived. Although we are fans of Dizz's As Is, I would definitely avoid dining there on or near any holiday. Week days or Sundays are your best bet. Parking is woefully inadequate with very, very limited parking spots, so diners must park on Coast Highway and make the long trek down the hill and back. All in all, Dizz's offers a rather unique dining experience, that is worth the inconveniences, but not on a holiday.
Always good and fun. Enjoy Liver Pate served with toast points as a first-course along with vermouth Apéritif. The pate is made in-house, so good other restaurants try to buy any extra to serve to their customers. My favorite is Rack of Lamb (others say the same) and Grandfather's Strawbery Cream pie. A large delectable dessert, one slice is enough for at least two people. It was developed by their Belgian grandfather.
This place is awesome, vibe, lighting , and service is out of this world. I have recommended this place to many people already. Worth the trip from la.
This is a favorite with my family and friends. Long, long time customers. Love everything about this place.
Always excellent... brought visiting friends here... they loved it... great food and good times
The rack of lamb was the perfect temperature and the service was prompt and very friendly. Will be back whenever in the area again.
Great atmosphere ! Best host!
Wonderful service and delicious food.
The food was adequate nothing special. The Ceasar salad wasn't really a caesar as it was comprised baby lettuces. Waiter should have told diners prior to ordering.
Patrons should have been apprised of service charge based on use of credit card prior to paying for the meal. No where was it prominently posted.
Food was terrific as usual and the service was fantastic. Our waitress was really personable and helpful, but overly attentive. I had taken my daughter there to celebrate her college graduation (its her favorite restaurant) and we had a great time. I highly recommend this place to anyone that likes a unique experience with great food.
We've dined at Dizz's As Is for many, many years, and can recommend the restaurant without reservation. The food is consistently good, and the restaurant has a unique, if eclectic charm. Service is usually very good, but on this past occasion, the restaurant was packed, including a large party, so the service was slower than we've experienced in the past. The noise level was over the top, due primarily to the aforementioned large party, making conversation difficult, even across a small table. It was somewhat disappointing that the restaurant was out of two of the beers we selected off the menu, but aside from that, the food was excellent. Dizz's is worth the drive to south Laguna Beach.
I had read mixed reviews so I was a little apprehensive heading into dinner. The food was delicious and our server was friendly and attentive. It was a wonderful experience and we’ll definitely go back again.
Always our go to place...great setting...old style Laguna Beach...wonderful variety and always excellent food.
Food and service is always outstanding!
For a Romantic Dinner, in an ambient setting, classy doesn't even come close to what you have here!
Simple setting but somehow very appealing. Food good but not exceptional. Cool live music, not too loud. 70’s and 80’s. Added a service charge since we used a credit card... didn’t like that part. Service was excellent and we will be back!
4 of us completely enjoyed our meals. One found his very unsatisfactory. I had mentioned that it was a birthday, and the did provide a desert.
Great food and service
We had never been to this restaurant before and wanted to try it for years. What a disappointment. The building is very old and with some sloping walkways and an odd entrance navigating it is quite tricky. The seating is uncomfortable and doesn’t promote a relaxing dining experience. The service was quick and adequate, but the waitress spoke rapidly and was difficult to understand, especially when explaining their quirky menu process. (And it is a process). There were five in our party and all but two of us ordered a different dish. None of us was pleased with the food. One ordered the New York steak and reported that it was overly salted and was thin for a New York. Another in our group ordered the veal piccata and reported that it too was overly salted and that the veal was tough and chewy. Surprisingly the veal was served with a side of rice not pasta. My wife ordered a shrimp dish that came with noodles. The shrimp looked gorgeous and overly large on her plate, but she complained that the shrimp was difficult to cut an extremely tough to chew. She did not finish with even one of the four shrimp served to her. My sister in law and I ordered duck la orange. The duck was tough and tasteless on its own and the glazing was non existent. The dish was covered in a tomatoey pasty sauce and did not go well with the duck. My sister in law was more critical of her entree than even I was. Not one dish was acceptable with perhaps the exception of New York steak dish which my brother in law said was okay despite it being thin and a bit over salted.
Needless to say we won’t be going back, for us it is Dizz’s It Isn’t.
Unique eclectic atmosphere. Good food and service. Enjoyed the complimentary vermouth. Liked that the entrees included everything. Would go again.
We had a wonderful time. The atmosphere was wonderful. It definitely felt like we had walked into the middle of a dinner party with a bunch of old friends. The mood was light and friendly. The food and service were fantastic. We are going to recommend this place to all of our friends.
My wife and I came for a date night and we're excited to see what all the reviews were about. The restaurant is quaint and unrefined; a converted historic home lacking in some degree of interior design and flow.
Wait staff was friendly, but here to there was a lack of connection with guests. The staff was not part of the overall experience that you would expect.
I had the rack of lamb and my wife had the chicken marsala. Both dishes were fair quality and reasonably flavorfull but nothing extraordinary. I ordered a bottle of wine to go with our meal, and the waitress brought the correct brand, but not the correct variety to go with the meal. I missed it too until she had poured the taste for me. Instead of fixing the error and apologizing for her mistake, she stated "that's why I show you the bottle". That's not the kind of response I would expect from someone interested in top notch service.
Needless to say the experience left us regretting the decision to dine there. There is clearly a local following for this place, but I can't recommend it as a good value for the money, or a noteworthy dining experience.
1st time, but based on food and service will be back. Specials and deserts are the best.
Met by gracious host/owner on a less than busy night. Had a well mixed drink at the bar, which is cozy and well stocked for a small operation. Chief came out and talked to various customers, not in an intrusive way.
Eclectic atmosphere which was warm and not noisy as to be annoying. Menu is very original and all food items were well presented and hot and delicious. Will come here again as soon as I can get back to Laguna Beach.
Great filet mignon. Loved the little extras...the pate, salad and vermouth.
Would definitely return to try their lamb and their sea bass!
The rack of lamb was delicious. It is our favorite!
We had 7:15 PM reservations. When we arrived we were told to wait in the crowded bar area as there were no tables available yet. Upon speaking with the other guests we discovered that the other people have been waiting for over an hour and also had had reservations. After about an hour we were seated. I have to Say our meals were delicious! There were four of us and all of us agreed that the food was worth the wait. Next time we will expect at least an hour wait.
I've heard about this restaurant for years, but somehow never made it there until last week when we went to celebrate my birthday. The ambiance, service and the food was excellent! I certainly won't wait so long to go there again.
FANTASTIC...service food friendliness and price.....atmosphere
We return every year on the anniversary of our first date there. It’s great to see the same friendly staff always there
Table was ready when we arrived, waiter was knowledgeable and friendly, service was prompt and food was excellent! Would definitely go back!
Decided to try Dizz's As Is based upon friends recommendation who dine there often. The restaurant is quaint, quirky and casual. There is a small bar to sit at while waiting for your table. The service is friendly and efficient. The unique dining rooms and atmosphere make dining there a very special occasion.
The menu offerings are amazing from appetizers to main courses. The small plate menu is great for sharing an appetizer or two + there is a full appetizer menu. The Main Courses are all equally amazing and our Lamb Shank and Lamb Chops were absolutely perfect.
This is a great place to dine for a date night or a special occasion or just for every day dining. We want to go back and try many of the other items on the menu. Let's just say the food is better than most Laguna Beach restaurants and the prices are way reasonable.
Fabulous food! Fun ambiance! A must try!
Always an amazing meal !
I love antiques however I thought place to be a bit shabby. They could fix it up a little and still have it be a cozy old atmosphere.
Service was very good. Wines priced well.
I ordered spinach salad fresh but no flavor. The Cornish hen was very tasty
My husband ordered Lamb shank a little too much lamb flavor for his liking.
I will go back, but not that soon.
Enjoyed the food and service very much as we had done before. We were a bit displeased with the New York steak my wife ordered, it was tough and gristly. I did ask her to order the filet! My Osso Bucco was excellent. Great wine selections. Will go back again.
Great service and super food as always. We really enjoyed our experience and treated like in our own home.
always a great time at Dizz's...great food, great variety and great service..just a wonderful place... the rack of lamb is out of this world.
Excellent unexpected tidbits, like the palate cleansing and pate
