Diva at the Met Ratings and Reviews
Had never been to DIVA at The Met before and was disappointed in both food and service. The food was pretty bland. Not horrible but certainly didn't stand out. And the service was not what I would have expected from a downtown hotel restaurant. Several things happened that were sub-par but the most bothersome was our server removed my plate before my companion had finished eating.
We wanted an early evening without the noise and clatter of many venues. Diva was the perfect solution. The seating allows for some privacy, the waiters were knowledgeable and personable and the wait time for perfectly presented food was minimal. The food was well above most comparable restaurants, particularly the Arctic Char with shellfish and delicious seasoned potatoes. We haven't been to Diva for some time and will certainly return in the new year.
We decided to visit Diva for dinner before going to a concert in Richmond. The reviews for the most part are usually accurate so it seemed like a good choice.....and it was a very good choice!
Starting with the Pear, Fig and Goat Cheese salad and my husband had the Heirloom Tomato salad. Both were delicious and very tasty!
My main was the Spahetti with Kobe Meatballs....excellent choice. The spaghetti was tosses with truffle oil and the meatballs were spicy, perhaps a bit too much, but great all the same. My husband had the Prawn Fettucine, not a creamy say puce but more an oil based one. Prawns done to perfection!
No room for dessert, unfortunately.
Our server was amazing! Just the right amount of presence, polite and friendly....always with a smile.
Would definitely go back and recommend it highly!
I took my wife to Diva for our 25th wedding anniversary. The food was great but overpriced. They did nothing to make our special occasion special!!!
The bartender James served triple duty also serving as seating host and busser. He was great and deserves a huge raise.
The food here is always excellent, inventive, without being the "weird" to the less adventurous. Service is excellent, attentive without making you feel they are hovering or bothering you every moment. They cheerfully rolled with a substitution for a food allergy without a problem even on a crowded holiday with a fixed menu even though guest was willing to omit a course. Good suggestions for wines. A great place for a group as well as a small intimate dinner. Previously we have dines with a group with pre-teens who enjoyed the dinner and had their minor food issues accommodated without fuss or drama. Staff and chefs are friendly and excellent!
My family and I had dinner here on Christmas Eve. The restaurant was serving a four course dinner for $85 per person. We shared a bottle of white wine. Our server was friendly and nice even though the restaurant was clearly understaffed that night. The servers were running around and the food came out very slowly (over 45 min), which was unreasonably long for a set dinner. The only decent course was the lobster bisque. The duck was very gamey and the seafood risotto had undercooked risotto and overcooked seafood. The lobster tasted like it was microwaved. Overall, very disappointing for Christmas Eve. I have had business lunches at this restaurant and they were much better.
Dishes were well-presented, balanced and full of flavours. Service were amazing, informative, well groomed, good timing. It is not so much of casual dining by price but atmosphere was very comforting for any occasion. Highly recommend to others and will re-visit definitely.
My friend and I had enjoyed Diva a few times several years ago but didn't return after our last disappointing and unimpressive experience there. After a few years, we decided to give it another try. Décor is still the same - simple but elegant. We waited 20 minutes for our cocktails when the restaurant was not busy at all.. (the reason was the machine had run out of paper..?). After my friend commented on the wait, the service was overly attentive, almost cloying. Both of us very much enjoyed our food each having different appys, entres and desserts. And the Manhattans there are great. We will probably return again, but it has not yet regained it's place on our list of most favoured restaurants as the service is much too questionable.
The prix fixe lunch was very good with the exception of the dessert which was advertised as a pear and currant crisp which turned out to be a "deconstructed" version. I expected the usual baked and bubbly crisp and was disappointed. Chunks of granola bar thrown on top of cold diced fruit.
I barely touched it and also told the server but was not offered a substitution or reduction on the bill.
Reconstruct this dish or don't serve it.
Otherwise, the experience was good.
We picked Diva at the Met for a quiet dinner on our anniversary. The service was stellar, the food excellent and the ambiance exactly what we were looking for. I would highly recommend any visitor to Vancouver making this part of their dining plans. We will definitely be going back for another meal the next time we are in the city.
I booked dinner at Diva for our 10th Anniversary dinner with a note that we would be celebrating our 10 years and we'd like a table a bit out of the noise, perhaps with a view if available (not quite knowing the restaurant's layout). When we arrived (late due to traffic), they were fully ready for us and incredibly inviting. We had a very nice table with an open view in the restaurant, but away from the noise. They also had a complimentary bottle of champagne for chilled and ready for us once we sat down, which was a very nice touch!
The service was crisp, polite, engaging and not overwhelming. The food was excellent and the portions were well sized for the price and quality/style of the restaurant. I would highly recommend Diva at the Met to anyone who wants an evening of finer dining, or to celebrate a memorable event.
We were here for our anniversary celebration. We ordered scallop, the soup of the day, crispy sea bass and spring salmon. We love the scallop and the crispy sea bass. Both taste great! Soup of the day is good. They also surprise us with a lovely dessert with Happy Anniversary written on it.
We really appreciate the fact that they really care about customer experience and walk the talk. Overall, great food excellent service! Adam and Jessica are both great! They are genuine! Agree that Diva is an unpretentious hidden gem. It is a great place if you want a relaxed dinner with your family! They also have kids menu!
This was surprisingly disappointing. Diva has been a go to for a special occasion for years. We had a latish reservation, and experienced a classic hotel restaurant tired, depleted and wilted buffet experience. We had been here for dinner not long ago, and were dumbfounded at the difference.
Three of us recently came to Diva to celebrate a special occasion, and our high expectations were not only met but exceeded. The server was knowledgable, professional, courteous and respectful without being too cool. He truly seemed to love describing the food he was serving. And the food... imaginatively prepared, tasty and generously-portioned. Having wrongly anticipated smallish servings, we ordered side dishes, but in the end we didn't need them; one starter, one main and one dessert each would have been more than enough. Diva ranks among our top two Vancouver fine dining spots (along with Yew) because of its high quality without pretense. The emphasis is purely on a wonderful dining experience. Will definitely recommend to others and return ourselves.
My wife and I have dined at Diva many times over the last 15 years and the food, service, and experience are always outstanding. It tops of our list of favourite restaurants in Vancouver. The menu changes regularly, but retains the flair of excellence and great flavour they are known for without venturing too far off course. We have dined in many of the worlds great cities, and Diva holds its own against New York, London, or Sydney. You will not be dissapointed.
Had the special Valentines menu; they were accommodating to my allergy even though it was a set menu which was nice. Service was OK, had to pour my own wine(which seems a bit odd at $80+ a bottle) also had to ask a few times for several things and never did receive sugar for my coffee. Despite a few downfalls we had an excellent meal.
We went for 2015 Valentine's Day dinner..,set menu with options. One criticism -have one option for each course without shellfish for people who are deathly allergic. My husband enjoyed the octopus carpaccio with lobster. As an accommodation, they did make me a beef carpaccio which was yummy. Salad course was very tasty. I should have seen the grilling mess in the open kitchen before I ordered the steak but we were there early and regrettably we did not see it until after...the rib eye with foie gras arrived black and the plate was swimming in a sea of beef blood & burnt oil. It was not a one off -both arrived the same as did to the neighbouring table. One bite of bitterness was too much -the wonderful waiter Sean returned with a second slightly less black smaller steak which was half fat and gristle and they sent a fresh piece of foie gras separately. I was not sure about the pheasant alternative so had stuck with steak but perhaps should have tried it as the 2nd steak was edible...but only just. The dessert was lovely and romantic passion fruit & white chocolate & dark chocolate mousse heart half & half. The wine pairings were just right.
After our dinner, my hubby --who was a chef/restaurateur in his past life -- observed through the open kitchen the grill process and alerted management but the same worker continued to burn & flame the steaks bathing them in a sea of oil and four foot flame & smoke. We could not believe that no one stopped this insane process. Unfortunate for those poor unknowing diners that followed us. It did not ruin our evening -the other food was fabulous and the service was excellent. Dont order steak & I wonder how they grill seafood ?
My daughter and I enjoyed a fabulous evening over the long weekend at Diva to celebrate my daughter's 15th birthday. The room is beautiful, the service impeccable, and the food was outstanding. Our server, Sarah, was attentive, knowledgable, and happily answered our menu questions. Sarah soon popped by with a delish amuse-bouche for each of us and then my daughter had the scallops and I had the mozzarella balloon. Both were scrumptious and the presentation was art - especially the mozzarella balloon! Art! For mains, my daughter had the Osso buca and declared it her new favorite food ever (dug every last bit of marrow out!) and I had the duck - sooo good! Chef Sam made the birthday girl feel so special with a gorgeous dessert platter too! We rolled out of there, happily planning our next visit :) Can't wait!
We have a group of seven that went to this restaurant for dinner during the Vancouver Dine Out period. It was a three course dinner and we had the option of wine pairing for $15 (one per course). This pairing was excellent and $15 for 3 half glasses is good value. The seven of us basically covered all the choices on the dine out menu. Other than the Halibut being a little bit dry, everything else was very good.
Waiter was ver nice and friendly, however we had to remind him we had add-ons to our main course and forgot our wine pairing for our dessert.
It would have been nice if they asked us if we were ready for dessert rather than serving it as soon as we finished our main course.
Went here for dine out menu and add the wine paring option. Love the beef carpaccio and dessert terimisu! However, the entree halibut was over cook a bit. Also love the Burrowing Owl wine pairing with cheesecake!
Overall is ok, but not as good as I am expected.
The dine out menu was terrible. I ordered the prosciutto wraped halibut which was dry and hard and all the other dish are not very good; the only good dish was the dessert which was the cheese cake . Service was slow and not very friendly. I do not recommend this restaurant.
The service and food were both excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful, the food was fresh and beautifully presented and the wine list was extensive. It was a very pleasant atmosphere and although the restaurant was quite full, it wasn't noisy and we could talk at a normal volume.
