Diva at the Met Ratings and Reviews
Best fine-dining experience we've ever had in Vancouver. Excellent value. Funny, thoughtful, impeccably plated French-Persian-modern cuisine. Savvy wine pairings. Open kitchen allows views of hard working staff in action. Why is this place not jammed out the door? In a more sophisticated city it would be.
My wife and I went here to celebrate our anniversary. This was our first experience eating at a restaurant with a tasting menu and we were not disappointed. My wife ordered the five course meal, while I ordered the seven course meal. We were very impressed by both the speed of service and the quality of the food we were presented with. The meal began with five seperate amuse bouches. These playful bites were both interesting and exciting, showing varied molecular gastronomy techniques which mesmerized and tantalized the senses. Main course highlights included succulent tender sweetbreads, and a duo of lamb which literally melted in my mouth. However, far and away the best plate of the night was the wonderfully contrasting Alaskan king crab.
I went to Diva for my girlfriend's birthday dinner. I had noted that it was her birthday dinner on my reservation on OpenTable and my girlfriend found it to be a pleasant surprise that they knew it was her birthday when we didn't mention it.
We ordered the 7 course meal and it was absolutely wonderful. We were seated near the rear of the restaurant, as requested, so it was nice and quiet. The service provided was outstanding and manager came to check up on us to check everything was well. Both of us enjoyed the meal immensely.
This restaurant is a wonderful gem that not many people know about. It is perfect for special occasions as they would definitely try to make sure everything is done right.
My husband and I were looking forward to our belated-Valentine's dinner at Diva. I was expecting a delicious meal as we had experienced a few years ago for my birthday. My husband decided that we try the 7 course tasting menu. Without reviewing the details of the menu, I wanted to be surprised by the chef, but was not impressed with the dishes. I kept waiting for the next one to wow me and it never happened to my disappointment. There were too many flavours introduced to each dish except for the sashimi sturgeon and scallop as the first course which I passed to my husband as it was all too raw for my taste. With figs, pickled strawberries...I felt there was too much sweetness paired with the dishes. The foie gras was tasteless...
My wife and i have been going to Diva for about ten years now. The food is always impressive. We took friends there for dine Out Vancouver and they are still talking about it! Wine prices are over the top and unnecessarily pricey. I think a moderately priced selection of tasty wines from North and south America would allow more people to enjoy wine with their dinner. Lastly I think it is time to update the decor a little. It really hasn't changed since 1999 when we first dined there.
Food was really creative and innovative, as well as very well executed. It seems the chef has a love of molecular gastronomy, and it was quite enjoyable. The beef tartare was unlike any I've ever had, as well as the bread pudding and pork hock on the pork loin plate. The sous vide on the salmon was also done very well. My favourite was the pistachio powder on the chocolate souffle dessert, as it had a very interesting taste and texture, and created a nice contrast to the warm, gooey chocolate cake. My only complaint would be that the plating was really not that appetizing and seemed to be all over the place. There was no focal point and just looked messy.
Food is good but doesn't surprise me.
My bf ordered the Caesars but it is just so so.
The soup (with pear inside) is an excellent one. I like the creamy soup balanced by some pear cubes.
Puffed Fio Gras is special and unique but the lack of favor. Because Fio gras tastes is reduced, the other tastes (like the fig) overtakes the whole dish.
Salmon is good, especially the sauce.
Dessert is ok.
Good restaurant and very good service. However, it lacks a reason for me to definitely go back there or being my top choice.
Being our first time at Diva at the Met, we couldn't have predicted how wonderful of an experience we had. The service was highly professional and still friendly as can be. The strikingly simple brunch menu card belies the exceptional plates soon to arrive. The food was prepared and presented as close to artistic perfection as physics could allow =) Tremendous. High end and completely unpretentious. A gem of Vancouver.
Overpriced wine pairings and small food portions at fairly high prices for what you get. I suspect that they see "Vancouver Dine Out" as an opportunity to sell some cut price, lower quality meals rather than as a good opportunity to broaden their customer base. Too bad, I used to like it.
The slow service ranged between poor and average depending on the server.
I don't think they realize how much serious competition they now have within easy strolling distance..
food was as expected, pretty good considering it was the dine out menu. however, the dessert didnt exceed the other two courses of the meal. both cheese cake and the chocolate souffle felt very dated compared to the first and second courses.
the hostess did not acknowledge my party at the door. we had to wait at the lounge without anyone getting drink orders or nothing even though the restaurant was not busy.
i dont mind waiting for the table for a good 15min when we arrived at the place on time, but at least they should have made us feel welcomed.
our server was friendly and that was good. one of the food runners brought our main course and she wasnt able to explain what they were. overall, i was not happy with the service at all.
Although our meals were very good, our overall experience was marred by the poor service.
By poor service, I mean very slow. We waited a long time for anyone to come to our table after we were first seated, a long time for our drinks and then a very long time for our dessert. The room was only half full when we arrived so that was not an acceptable reason.
This was my second time dining at this restaurant and I would definitely be going back there again! Food is exceptionally delicious, presentation fantastic, service excellent. The only one thing I could see holding me back from dinning there too often is price of the food.
