From Outstanding Wines by the Glass, Dining at the Bar with Seasonal Ingredients Positioned in an Emerging Downtown Cleveland Location, District Will Compliment the Cleveland Restaurant Landscape.
Risotto was not really Risotto, it was more like rice with a little pizzazz. We didn’t feel like when we left we were satisfied for the amount of money spent to quality of entree:. Drinks were delightful, and service was great.
Looking for a quick after theater dinner. Nice atmosphere, close to theater, everything was fine but nothing special. I usually look for a dining experience, it was not outstanding
I took my family for Downtown Cleveland Restaurant Week. We had a great time on an early Sunday afternoon. We received excellent service from Chris and enjoyed generous portions. The atmosphere was bright, classy but not too forward about it. It felt like a more polished version of one's go-to neighborhood restaurant.
We ate here during restaurant week, and the value was great. A couple of minor problems were fixed with a smile.
We visited the District for brunch before a show. The location to the theater was a quick 5 minute walk, which was our primary reason for choosing it. The vibe was pleasant and they had a duo performing some quiet easy listening music. The food was a bit of a disappointment. Two of us ordered the breakfast omelet which lacked on flavor and was over cooked. Our other guest ordered the eggs Benedict which she said was good. Service was slow even though it was not that crowded. I would return only for the convenience of being a close walk to the theater.
Had Sunday brunch before a show. Excellent service. Had calamari as an app - highly recommend. Main course of shrimp and grits - tasty. Overall very good experience.
Chris was our server and he was very friendly and funny. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was just what we were hoping for.
Great food and service!
First time there. Very disappointed in scallops entree my husband got. It looked like what you’d get for an appetizer - 5 very small pieces with 3 pieces of asparagus that’s it. $28 ? I had to share my dinner with him, which was just ok. Over seasoned pork chop, marinated in garlic or something. Nice atmosphere but not impressed with food
Great experience. Good food great atmosphere! We will definitely be back!
After being seated, had to wait a long time for a server to bring water and drinks. Food was average. My salmon dinner was food. Spouse had pork chops. The pork chops were tough. Dessert creme brûlée was a frozen dessert - certainly not home made (and disappointing). Coffee sat too long.
Great service. Food was delicious.
Food was fabulous!! Perfect, cozy place for a meal before heading to Playhouse House Square. Get the scallops!!!!!
The tables were too close to enjoy a conversation with my wife. The person sitting next to me was bumping elbows with me. In addition the service was less than average. Lastly, I ordered the filet cooked medium. Not only was it a terrible cut, it was cooked well and tasteless. I will say the truffled mashed potatoes were very good. All in all I really can’t refer a friend to District and I won’t be returning.
Overall a good experience, just a few Minor things. I asked to be sat in a more romantic location if possible. We were instead sat in a very very loud corner area between 2 groups. It did quiet down a bit after another table left but it was difficult to carry a conversation in the beginning. We also had 7:30pm reservations and the menu was fixed choices due to it bring NYE and at 7:30pm items (clams) were already sold out and unavailable. Also had to ask several times for the cocktail menu. Other than that, we had a great time with the friends we were with and the food was good.
We went before the theater, but there were no reservations prior to 6:15 PM and our play was at 7:30 so we were concerned that we would be rushed. We got there a little early and there were only two tables of other diners, so I have no idea why there weren't any Open Table reservations available before 6:15. That was the first red flag. Our server was nice enough, but there weren't any specials and nothing on the menu popped out at us. I ordered the brisket and it was full of fat. The gravy was gelatinous and unflavorful. My son ordered the Delmonico and it, too, was totally fatty. He probably had 3 bites that weren't full of lard. Totally gross. My other son got the scallops and liked the dish. Husband got the parppardelle and it had so many olives in it that the flavor overtook the dish. When we left, the place was nearly empty except for a few people at the bar. Also, we sat in the middle of the restaurant, not even by the door, and it was still drafty when the door was opened. Overpriced food that isn't very good. Don't make the same mistake we did, and go to Cowell and Hubbard or Cibreo before the theater.
Outstanding food and a wonderful, attentive server.
Best food and service at Playhouse Square
Most disappointing. I doubt that we will ever return
I realize we were there pre-theater and the restaurant was very crowded all with pre-theater people. However the confusion going on with the food and drinks out of the kitchen was incredible. The food tasted good, and our server was very attentive, but items all came in a random order. The tables on either side of us were also missing items. Entrees coming before appetizers, sides and drinks never showing up. It was very chaotic. District is leaving a lot of money on the table. More drinks would have been ordered, possibly dessert. From being crammed in I could see the same happening at the adjacent tables.
We happen to be at a show this past Saturday and saw the restaurant, looked up a few reviews (They were great), booked our reservation on OpenTable for after our show and arrived with a super friendly staff and super accommodating. My wife got the short ribs and they were fantastic. I got the seafood risotto dish and it was absolutely outstanding ate every last bite. Great place ! We will be back every time we go to a show.
We were disappointed in what we got for the $$ we spent. It really came down to the quality of the food. Nothing wow'd us, and when you drop $150 for 2 people, you want to be wow'd.
We were originally seated by the door (pet peeve of mine especially having made reservations a month ahead of time). Thankfully the host reseated us along a wall with other guests. The food was decent. Nothing to write home about. Our server was great but didn’t make up for the noise level and ok food. Probably won’t go back. Just didn’t feel like the price matched the whole experience and resulted in a low value result for me.
This was our first time there, and the ambiance and the menu exceeded our expectations. However, the food fell far short of what we expected. The salads we delicious but the entree, the prime rib special, was tasteless and the texture was as if it had been put through a tenderizer. They did give us a free dessert and we chose the pumpkin trifle. It was tasteless, as if they opened a can of pumpkin and didn’t flavor it. Very disappointing
Very tasty brunch before Playhouse Square show.
A duck leg was substituted for the goose confit. The goose is so much better. I was told after I ordered but still disappointing. Everything was wonderful as usual.
What District has going for it is the proximity to the theaters. It has a cool décor and vibe. The food was ordinary. The drinks were good. The service was good and prompt but they forgot the salad dressing in my wife's salad.
Good overall lacked flavor. Appetizers were bland. Pork chop had absolutely no seasoning, although was cook decently to temperature. Will not be going back.
Excellent. Great spot for dinner before the theater.
My wife and I go out weekly for date night dinner. Our experience at District last Sat was wonderful. Our server (whose name I don’t have) was great! Attentive, competent and friendly! My barramundi was delicious! Again, we eat out almost every Sat and have been to most every fine dining restaurant throughout NE Ohio and beyond I would put this experience up against any restaurant - including restaurants with entree and wine prices double that of District. In a word, great job!!
Food was over cooked. This was party of 10 and all if it was over cooked. Will not be back. Understand why the place was empty. Bummer
The server explained the specials and let us talk a while before we ordered.
The food was very good and served hot.
It would be extremely helpful if the menu explained that the fries accompanying the wraps and sandwiches were sweet potato fries and not regular fries as it suggests. I despise sweet potatoes and there was no accomodation even suggested after the waiter asked if I was ok with that and I said no and the plate was already in front of me. So, wasted food product that could have been avoided. And, for the price of the meals there should have been a suggested alternative.
The District is always a great place to dine in Cleveland. Everything on the menu is yummy! I love their bread and dipping sauces. Nice presentation. Friendly service.
Side note: Very clean and lovely bathrooms.
Initial service was good, but had to ask for bill and then no one came to pick up the payment. Only two tables in the restaurant, so they weren’t too busy to give good service. Food was good, but carpet was dirty under all tables and needed swept and the wood on the bottom of the tables was dirty and needed dusting.
Our meals were incorrect! The server tried to fix them. She was very sweet! And removed items from our check. My salad was brown & wilted
Food was amazing but service not so good we had 3 different servers
The restaurant was dirty. Floor covered in food crumbs. The table that was set for us had crumbs all over it and the chairs. I asked if they could please clean it and was told they’d “get to it - no one was sitting in it yet “. We had to ask for the butter/EVOO that was supposed to come with the bread and it took asking 2 people to get it. My onion soup was terrible- luke warm, gritty, salty - not good. This was our 2nd visit here and it was a fail.
Food was excellent. I was with a friend who is in the cast of "Dear Evan Hansen" and our server was very helpful and accommodating not only to myself and my friend, but to my friend's two young sons with food items that were off the menu.
We are gluten free and they were able to accommodate our choices. Many options for gluten free.
