Perfect pre-theater dining. Everyone in our party of six loved their dinner. Service was excellent and everyone on staff took great care of us. This is a good place to go just for the atmosphere and food itself, but it's perfect for combining with any event happening in downtown Cleveland. Easy to get to and close enough to all theater and sporting venues for one stop parking.

The food was very very good as was the craft cocktails. But the ambience, especially the condition of the facility, nail holes in the walls and very boring decor, was lacking. Service was so so.

I was looking forward to a nice, Saturday, dinner out with my guy. We dressed for the evening and drove from Kent. Our server was friendly, but the overall experience was really underwhelming. The menu had an Asian flare (not Mediterranean as the website indicates), drinks were not mixed well, the decor is very basic, and the food was just not good (overly sweet sauces, overcooked fish, etc.) I enjoy a good meal and don't mind paying for it. District just doesn't execute well, so it's best to go elsewhere.

Met some family members for an early dinner before a Guardians game. Among us we ordered the strawberry arugula salad, the short rib and the salmon. Everyone was very happy with their food. Service was quick, probably because we were so early (5pm), and the ambiance was nice. One family member said she felt underdressed (we were dressed for the game). They are probably more accustomed to seeing dressier, theater-going people; but I highly doubt we were the only ones to ever show up in jeans and T-shirts.

We have season tickets for the Cleveland Play House and as part of our date night we usually dine at District, partly because it's conveniently located near Playhouse Square but mainly because the menu has something for everybody, including many gluten-free items in a kitchen that works diligently to avoid any cross contamination issues (as someone with Celiac disease, I have never had an issue with anything I've ordered here) and an excellent bar with some terrific cocktails (I highly recommend "My Favorite Things"). On top of this is the superb service which always makes sure that we arrive in plenty of time for the show.

Came in on time. Ordered on time. Extremely late delivery with entree. Server tending bar and tables. Seems like they forgot our order. Other patrons arriving after us received their food much sooner than us. Once they realized we did not receive our food, we were told the owner was taking care of it. The red snapper order came out like rubber. Indication of extremely overcooked or microwave blast. Could not cut it with a steak knife. They did not charge for the snapper after told the snapper was not edible and sent back. However, did not really make any attempt to make things right. At that point we spent more time at the restaurant than we had available. Paid and left. Hard to recommend based on experience.

First time at District and dinner was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal (fish) and my husband loved his vegetarian dinner (roasted delicata squash) too (though he was a tad hungry later that evening). We also had an appetizer and salad - everything was fresh and thoughtfully plated. Service was excellent and the drinks were superb. Although it started to get busier as the evening grew later and the restaurant filled up (we had had an early reservation), it was not "loud" by any means - we could still maintain normal voices for our conversation. The convenience for Playhouse square is also a huge plus. I'll definitely be back.

Avoid this restaurant. First off, the noise level is deafening. The service was extremely slow given the location in the theater district. It seemed to be short staffed, but extremely inefficient. The tuna app was good but tiny. Calamari was very overbreaded. Restaurant out of a few items at 5:30 on Sat night. Entree of cod loin was inedible due to a preponderance of pepper corns floating in the glutinous sauce. No hint of curry flavor as promised on menu. After mentioning to server, response was “I’ll pass that along to kitchen”. No time to correct as entrees arrived at 7 for 7:30 show though our reservation was at 5:30 and our arrival was prompt. We were hungry so ordered one dessert to share at the time of check request. It was on its way as we were walking out the door at 7:15. Unacceptable and overall a very negative experience. It was our first visit, and our last. I realize restaurants are struggling but District fails to deliver on all levels. A hard pass.

It was our 40th wedding anniversary. We had reservations. When we arrived there weee only 3 other parties seated. Once we ordered our food arrived at our table in less than 10 minutes. At that time I knew it was impossible that our meals had been freshly prepared. I had scallops. They were prepared nicely but very chewy which, to me, indicated they were not fresh. The risotto was barely warm which indicated it was prepared in advance. The taste was very strong and I actually could not eat it. I believe it has been warmed over. I have no proof of it. I really like risotto and was looking forward to having it. Needless to say, our anniversary dinner was ruined. We were very disappointed. Although the waiter, Tony, was kind, he seemed to be afraid to get too close. He always seemed to be just passing by instead of really serving us. I do not plan to return.

Excellent all around! I got the wedge salad and the filet. The filet was cooked perfectly and was super tender. My husband got the blueberry salad and brisket, both were great. Drinks were very tasty and even the bread and butters were delicious. The lava cake and ice cream dessert was a lovely end to the meal. Our server was attentive and friendly, we’ll definitely be back.

Risotto was not really Risotto, it was more like rice with a little pizzazz. We didn’t feel like when we left we were satisfied for the amount of money spent to quality of entree:. Drinks were delightful, and service was great.

I took my family for Downtown Cleveland Restaurant Week. We had a great time on an early Sunday afternoon. We received excellent service from Chris and enjoyed generous portions. The atmosphere was bright, classy but not too forward about it. It felt like a more polished version of one's go-to neighborhood restaurant.

We visited the District for brunch before a show. The location to the theater was a quick 5 minute walk, which was our primary reason for choosing it. The vibe was pleasant and they had a duo performing some quiet easy listening music. The food was a bit of a disappointment. Two of us ordered the breakfast omelet which lacked on flavor and was over cooked. Our other guest ordered the eggs Benedict which she said was good. Service was slow even though it was not that crowded. I would return only for the convenience of being a close walk to the theater.

First time there. Very disappointed in scallops entree my husband got. It looked like what you’d get for an appetizer - 5 very small pieces with 3 pieces of asparagus that’s it. $28 ? I had to share my dinner with him, which was just ok. Over seasoned pork chop, marinated in garlic or something. Nice atmosphere but not impressed with food

After being seated, had to wait a long time for a server to bring water and drinks. Food was average. My salmon dinner was food. Spouse had pork chops. The pork chops were tough. Dessert creme brûlée was a frozen dessert - certainly not home made (and disappointing). Coffee sat too long.

The tables were too close to enjoy a conversation with my wife. The person sitting next to me was bumping elbows with me. In addition the service was less than average. Lastly, I ordered the filet cooked medium. Not only was it a terrible cut, it was cooked well and tasteless. I will say the truffled mashed potatoes were very good. All in all I really can’t refer a friend to District and I won’t be returning. Thank you

Overall a good experience, just a few Minor things. I asked to be sat in a more romantic location if possible. We were instead sat in a very very loud corner area between 2 groups. It did quiet down a bit after another table left but it was difficult to carry a conversation in the beginning. We also had 7:30pm reservations and the menu was fixed choices due to it bring NYE and at 7:30pm items (clams) were already sold out and unavailable. Also had to ask several times for the cocktail menu. Other than that, we had a great time with the friends we were with and the food was good.

We went before the theater, but there were no reservations prior to 6:15 PM and our play was at 7:30 so we were concerned that we would be rushed. We got there a little early and there were only two tables of other diners, so I have no idea why there weren't any Open Table reservations available before 6:15. That was the first red flag. Our server was nice enough, but there weren't any specials and nothing on the menu popped out at us. I ordered the brisket and it was full of fat. The gravy was gelatinous and unflavorful. My son ordered the Delmonico and it, too, was totally fatty. He probably had 3 bites that weren't full of lard. Totally gross. My other son got the scallops and liked the dish. Husband got the parppardelle and it had so many olives in it that the flavor overtook the dish. When we left, the place was nearly empty except for a few people at the bar. Also, we sat in the middle of the restaurant, not even by the door, and it was still drafty when the door was opened. Overpriced food that isn't very good. Don't make the same mistake we did, and go to Cowell and Hubbard or Cibreo before the theater.
