District American Kitchen and Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
Located in the Sheraton Grand Phoenix It was so convenient to dine there. I was in town for a conference and decided to have dinner there with a friend, I have been a member of Open Table for several years and their reviews have never disappointed. Excellent meal and attention from the waitstaff. When in Phoenix I will definitely dine there again.
This is the place to go before the theater or an event at symphony hall. Excellent pre-theater special of $33 for appetizer, main course and a glass of wine. Nicely spaced tables make for a quiet relaxing meal. Salmon cooked just right as was the pork tenderloin. Fresh salads and nice wines by the glass. Friendly service.
Three of us dined here on the patio before going to a Wednesday afternoon show across the street at the Herberger. We liked the lunch promotion prices and the menu was varied enough that it was hard to decide what to choose. All of the food and wine was fabulous; our server Anna was wonderful; and the weather was marvelous. It ended up being the perfect lunch.
It was a stellar experience; one of the finer dining experiences in Phoenix. The food was absolutely delicious, friendliness, hospitality, quality of food, it’s presentation perfect.
Would recommend this place to anyone who wants an exquisite dining experience.
The food and ambiance were both very good; all 3 of us liked what we ordered, and I would go so far as to say that the desserts were even excellent. The only real issue was with service. Once the order was taken and submitted, the water glasses filled, the first drinks delivered, then the appetizers delivered and a second drink order taken - the waiter disappeared and we were ignored for close to half an hour.
There were hardly any tables with people at them (we arrived for a 5pm seating on a Monday and were the first ones there), and there were plenty of other wait staff hovering over near the kitchen and hostess stand talking and milling about at random times - except our waiter wasn't one of them. Our table was even out of water and drinks for at least 15 minutes. I finally wound up turning around and staring at the door into the kitchen until someone appeared to realize we might want something and went in and must have said something to our waiter as he came out, then obviously remembered the drink order as he suddenly turned back and went and got it from the bar right then. At which time we also requested more water. Not wanting to wait another 30 minutes, I didn't order more drinks.
Other than that, everything was fine. Nothing extraordinary, but it was very good. If I went back - and I probably would go back - I'd most likely go to the bar instead, since the service and attention over there seemed to be much better.
My husband and I dined with my mom prior to attending a performance of Man of LaMancha at the Herberger Theater. Food was good and very reasonably priced. Service left a lot to be desired. Caleb, our server, was insistent on rushing us to order. Come to find out his shift was cut about half way through our meal. He interrupted our lunch and asked if I would pay the bill. After he left, we had to flag down another server for dessert, coffee and water. The overall experience was good and we will probably return to the restaurant. It was unfortunate Caleb left such a poor customer impression.
District never lets us down when we head downtown for an event. The quinoa salmon bowl was a nice healthy option tho we had requested medium rare and got medium. All five were happy with their choices and you can’t beat the $9.00 lunch special for everything! Perfect round table at the window.
I have always been pleased with The District. It is a beautiful setting in a convenient location with validated parking. The service people are always polite and attentive. I like that it's menu is unique and suitable for healthy eaters or comfort-food people like myself. It also has a good wine and beer list. In an era of noisy casual dining restaurants, it is nice to sit in a quiet, intimate environment where you can actually hear the people you are dining with!
The District is a downtown favorite, not because it has outstanding food, but because it is convenient for events like the Phoenix Symphony, Herberger Theater events, and shows at the Orpheum. They have a good beer, wine, and specialty cocktails list, and often do Prix Fixe menu for holidays and event nights, with very limited selections, so be sure you know what they are serving before you go. Price is relatively expensive for the modest quality of the food & pairings, but I've never walked away hungry or highly disappointed, though not a gastronome's dream, either! We will go back - we always do, and generally have a great time prepping for a show or performance. It's convenient as part of the Sheraton Hotel and their valet parking is also handy for the shows - with a few hours free if you have dinner. Go! Enjoy.
My husband and I came for an early dinner before a show downtown. We had a reservation but made it in earlier than expected and they accommodated us. The food was amazing! I had the Chef’s special which was salmon and broccoli. Craveable! My husband had the chicken and biscuits. He’s still talking about it. Delicious. Our server was attentive and friendly. It was a great experience. We’ll be back and looking forward to bringing friends.
We were visiting Phoenix over Christmas and wanted to make sure we had a place to eat Christmas Day when we booked it we looked at the menu and it looked delicious. Unfortunately, when we got there, there was only a fixed price menu offered to us which wasn't showing on open table. We were going to leave and asked if there was any way to get any other food as we hadn't intended to eat on a menu like they offered, didn't want to spend that much and didn't quite like all of their offerings. The manager said he could do a vegetarian option for one of our party and chicken, vegetables and mashed potatoes for the kids. The food ended up being delicious, but the vegetarian meal and the kids meals came out when our appetizers came out so they had to eat earlier than us and we're finished early. Also, when we left, we saw that on the bar side they were serving other types of food so that we could have ordered different things, but that was not explained to us. We were also charged quite a bit for the very small portions they gave the kids. Although the food that we had was generally good, I wouldn't go back because of the poor customer service.
Christmas Day special dinner was outstanding. Excellent menu choices and deliciously prepared. The "dome" red velvet cake dessert was a work of art and outstanding to eat! Service was excellent. One of our guests has some dietary needs and the staff and management (Debbie-server and Steven- manager) were so accommodating and helpful in making her experience and the rest of our party a fabulous event.. Top notch service all around. Next Christmas, skip all those crowded and over-priced buffets...head for the District Restaurant downtown instead for outstanding food and a lovely elegant setting.
This restaurant is our go-to dinner place when we attend the Symphony and this experience just solidified our commitment to this restaurant. A+ experience! Thank you.
Food was finebut the atmosphere was terrible. The restaurant was almost empty (a Monday evening at 8:00) but the service was erratic and slow. Sat without service for too long then had overly chatty attention. Couldn't wait to leave and it cost far too much for such an unsatisfactory experience.
Overall I was a little disappointed. Food was lukewarm when it came out, but tasted good. Turkey, Mashed Potatoes and stuffing were all good, Presentation on the marshmallow yams was not great but they tasted okay. The green bean casserole was runny and tasted just plain lousy. I have dined at this restaurant before and had good experiences. This one was a bit disappointing
Their Thanksgiving dinner was delicious. Generous serving of roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, squash, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, and a side salad with a wonderful green tea and cider vinegrette. Dessert was a pumpkin maple torte. A really nice dinner away from home, with a very friendly and attentive wait staff.
