DISH+drinks Ratings and Reviews
Good place for pre-theater meal. Very close to the Kennedy Center. Cozy spot that crams tables in next to the bar, so expect a lot of noise and not a lot of table space. Food was good, service needs work. Immediately tries to push bottles of wine on us, wine on the menu wasn't available and tried to assume an alternative and had to push to get the menu back, when clearing the table dropped food all over my wife's brand new coat. Good food, but don't expect the level of service typically for the $$$.
It's our go-to choice for a casual dinner after work or before going to the Kennedy Center. Good menu, excellent choice of wines, knowledgeable staff.
Also, this restaurant is quiet enough that one can actually have a conversation. This is very unusual for a DC eatery. This is why it should be everyone's first choice.
Valet parking, quiet, good location, yummy food -- what else could one ask for?
One of my favorite restaurants anywhere. The fettuccine with shrimp and mussels was probably the best pasta I've ever had. The lamb was terrific. The bartender is extremely personable and knowledgeable, as was the wait staff. I always include this restaurant in any DC trip.
Located in a boutique hotel on a quiet, tree-lined street, this restaurant is less than 10 minutes walk from Kennedy Center and offers dinner/show valet parking. All the staff were friendly and attentive but it helped to get there early; diners arriving later seemed to be waiting much longer for service. Typical Washington prices for the food, with enough choices including fish and vegetarian options. We very much enjoyed our appetizers (gazpacho & perfectly fried calamari), good sized entrees (sea bass & vegetable risotto) and dessert (Chocolate cake with ice cream). Charming little bistro!
Nice neighborhood gem just adjacent to GWU campus. Cute neighborhood feel, safe area. Small restaurant which is nice compared to some larger restaurants where you feel like a number. Our server was really nice with a good sense of humor and efficient. Really unique restaurant as it was run more like a home visit. I got the fish which was the special and it was very good.
We stopped here on our way to see a ballet at the Kennedy Center. The staff was lovely, from the doorman to our server and other restaurant workers. Everyone was helpful, pleasant and welcoming. We ordered cosmos from the menu and they were delicious- a generous portion, but at a steep price. We shared the cheese plate which was delicious, but very small for the price. I'd go again, but beware the expense.
We eat there regularly on our Kennedy Center nights ( subscribers) and always enjoy it. The manager, Keith, is wonderful. He makes the best Martini imaginable ( and the best Gimlet for my husband.) I love the Tuna ( always rare) and the Arugula salad. My husband often has the scallops and other appetizers. The Brownie Sundae is as rich and good as possible. Service is excellent and we are always happy with our evening.
My colleague and I chose DISH + drinks because of its location near the Kennedy Center. We were looking for a restaurant where we could enjoy an early dinner and get to our 8 p.m. show on time. We were not disappointed. Although, this restaurant is tucked away on a side street, it was a gem. We were seated immediately, and our sever came over for our drink order right away. We both had one of their speciality cocktails. While the Cosmos Deluxe was very tasty, we both thought that $12 was too much for the small portion that we received. For dinner, I had the fish special which was a Rock fish. The dish came piping hot, and I was very pleased with that. My colleague had the crab cakes, which she enjoyed. All in all, we had a pretty tasty meal, and we made it to the theater early.
Went here with a friend before a show at the Kennedy Center. This spot is an easy walk from Foggy Bottom station and then on to the KC (or go back to Foggy Bottom and take the shuttle). Sophisticated atmosphere. My friend is a VERY picky eater and the waitress worked with her to customize her meal. Good bread and attentive water service. They brought my friend's steak medium-rare and she sent it back; the second try it was correctly medium-well. I had the pre-show prix fixe. Caesar salad and chocolate cake were about what you'd get at a suburban chain restaurant, tasty but nothing unexpected. Chicken fettuccine alfredo (which I order about 50% of the time when eating out) was special, just a little twist on what you typically get, and delicious. Overall I think the prices were a bit high for the quality but consider the neighborhood. Wine list and cocktail menu looked pretty good, again a little steep, but I would happily go back for a drink or another dinner.
Dish is a little known gem that is perfect for evenings with Kennedy Center events.
The food is very good (Tuna is my favorite), salads are great, best possible martinis, reasonably priced and very friendly, warm service. Conversations are easy and we never have a problem getting to KC on time since it is so close.
For the price I was expecting much more.
The calamari was really bland, my girlfriend's vegetarian risotto was both on the lower end of room temperature and close to macaroni and cheese than risotto, and my side of mashed sweet potato was actually cold on arrival.
The pork chop itself was good, but again, for the price I feel I should have been wowed. I was thoroughly disappointed with the meal.
We've gone to this restaurant over the years through various incarnations. This is our first in its current guise as DISH+Drink. It's kind of our go-to place for dinner when going to the Kennedy Center because the food is good, the prices are reasonable and it is within walking distance of the KC. Our food that night was terrific, and the bartender/waiter was engaging and knowledgeable about wines. I would very much recommend it.
