Took out of town guests pre Kennedy Center. Steaks were very good as was the salmon. The only mediocre entree was the crab cake. Enjoyed the service, enjoyed the ambience of the dining room and loved the fact we could leave the car and walk to the Opera. Will definitely be back.
A regular venue for on Kennedy Center days but this visit was with a friend and no rush.
A great place for conversation, attentive but not intrusive service, and comfortable surroundings
Attentive great staff. Food is decent and fresh, but nothing to go out of the way for.
Need a staff/greeter to sit people or put a sign upfront to let customers know to pick their table. Jose did a great job as a server. Food was excellent. I like that the tea was served with a small teapot to keep it hot, not directly on the cup. Hotel reception staff were very cordial and helpful.
This is our go-to place for Kennedy center. The food is consistently good. Noted that the prices have been increased this last visit-still have a pre-theater menu, but that was also higher. Service is important and this visit there was definately a delay in getting our food. And we are talking salad. I think the server was new. Still a nice pre-theater experience and chance to relax and catch up.
This place has truly outstanding food and an excellent wine list. It has a neighborhood pub feel and half of the clients seemed to be regulars. The staff is very attentive and welcoming. Recommended very highly.
We went for a dinner with another couple. The food was a all excellent and the service was friendly. We had steak, risotto, pork chops, and pasta. It was all really good. Two of us had the pre-theater special, which gets you an appetizer, main course, and dessert , all for $40. The appetizers included a very nice butternut squash soup, and for dessert they had apple caramel beignets. And pre-theater is valid until 10:00. A very nice experience.
Good choice for dinner before a Kennedy Center performance.
This restaurant served very good food at a very reasonable price. We were able to grab a table right by the fireplace which bolstered the ambiance of the establishment, enabling us to have a very cozy dinner. I would highly recommend this restaurant to friends.
This is an excellent choice for anyone dining pre-theatre at Kennedy Center. The food and service were excellent, and prices are reasonable. Rom is nice with decent ambiance. It's hard to find good dining choices near the Kennedy Center, but this is a great find!
Once we found it (it's in a hotel and there was no sign for the restaurant visible on a rainy night) it was easy to use valet pkg. Service was excellent and got us to the Ken Ctr on time and meal was very good. I ordered the swordfish special and my friend got the prix fixe house salad, veggie risotto and choc cake. Everything was delicious including the recommended wine. Entrees alone are a little pricey IMO but the prix fixe was a good value.
I'm a regular at DISH for several years now and love everything about the place. It's understated, but has great food and service with a smart, attentive wait staff. Love going there and suggesting it to others.
Lovely before show dinner. Prompt and very good service.
The host was professional. We had a server who literally told us to hurry with ordering because she had to attend to other guests. I was taken aback by this and it made it harder to enjoy the evening.
I've been eating off-and-on in Foggy Bottom for nearly 40 years, and it has always been somewhat of a wasteland. No difference here. Service was friendly but seemed not to be familiar with the menu. We had the a prix fixe, so not that much to know, but itt got rung up as a la carte (for 50% more) which which prompted a 10 minute cancellation/re-do as we were rushing off to the Kennedy Center. The food itself was unremarkable; overall OK, but the fish and chips were thin fillets in a heavy batter, so the whole thing was rather dry after its time in the fryer.
We go to this restaurant very often for several reasons:
1. You can hear yourself talk (very rare in DC restaurants).
2. Good food reasonably priced.
3. Very good wine selection and knowledgeable staff.
4. Good location -- walk to Kennedy Center and Metro
5. Valet parking
6. They're usually very good at seating you on time
Quiet before the storm! Very nice quiet atmosphere and excellent service before 6:30 -- then it became really busy and louder. Nice find with good food!
This is our favorite restaurant for a pre-theater dinner. The food is consistently well prepared, the wines are well chosen, and the service is always attentive, to get us out on time. It is a hidden jewel.
The waiter was amazing-funny, charming, warm and inviting! He gave me a free glass of red wine that I loved (and I don't even like red wine)!
Awesome food, great service, 10/10 would recommend!
Great place for a pre or post dinner meal. Very diverse menu with a nice wine list and handcrafted drinks. The $40 three course pre-show menu has plenty of options and is a nice value. Food is prepared perfectly and the wait staff is friendly and helpful.
Dish has improved in its cuisine. We dined prior to a Kennedy Center performance and then took a short walk to the theater.
My boyfriend and I went on New Years and had a lovely meal, great wine, and awesome service. Would go again!
I was looking to try someplace different before a night with the wife and kids at the Kennedy Center. The restaurant had good reviews; so I thought we'd try it...and I'm so glad we did. The food was delicious -- large portions and tasty. My son and I had crab cakes; my wife had the scallops and my other son had the salmon. We are very satisfied with dinner (we did not get appetizers), wine/cocktails for me and my wife and the chocolate souffle. What also made for a memorable experience was our waiter, who was friendly and responsive and the ambiance -- we were happily seated near the fireplace on a cold night. We're definitely coming back.
Great place to eat before the Kennedy Center events. Excellent and well priced pre-theater menu. Small place- reservations required. Everything we ordered was delicious and the server was very attentive.
Wanted a light lunch before a performance at the Kennedy Center. Two of us shared the mac N cheese with bacon and the chef's salad. Greens were fresh, good balance of ingredients. Mac N cheese had cheese mostly on top, not much bacon. Perfect light lunch before a theatre matinee performance.
Tired of the uninspired menu of the Kennedy Center's Rooftop Terrace and disappointed by the lack of consistency at Kingbird in the Watergate, we decided to take a 10-minute stroll over to The River Inn (Dish+Drinks). Logistically the location is fine for an evening performance at the KC and the wait staff knows how to get you in and out in time for your show. I wish the ambiance and food lived up to the many positive reviews. It's a very small place and our table adjoined the hotel lobby robbing any intimacy one might have hoped for given the size of the place. One of our guests had the crab cakes which were roundly applauded, but the rest of us had the grilled salmon which the menu stated was to come on a bed of beluga lentils, applewood bacon, with a beurre rouge sauce. Instead, the fish was served on a bed of lettuce...I can't quite call it a salad because I don't think it aspired to such heights. The salmon was cooked appropriately, but there was nothing else in the dish to hold it together. Fish and lettuce are what I remember. Poor meal planning to either fall short of such basic ingredients as lentils and bacon, or to serve such a bland pairing. Given the experience I would be hard pressed to give the place another try.
A pre-Kennedy Center gem. Very good food and very nice staff.
Inexplicably I've haven't been to Dish in quite a while and had forgotten just how enjoyable it is. For those of us who live nearby it is our local, easy, comfortable place to go. The food is very good and is also good value for the money. We try to go after 7:15 pm when the Kennedy Center crowd leaves for the evening performance and the noise level drops delightfully. Many of us also put our out-of-town guests at the River Inn Hotel (which the restaurant is part of) and inevitably receive compliments about the Restaurant.
Went here before a show at the Kennedy Center. Very convenient for the show. I might be more careful if the show at the Kennedy Center was very popular. The staff was small so if the restaurant was packed, they might get backed up. However, the service we experienced was great with nice wine recommendations. All in our party had the mussels and they were perfectly cooked and seasoned. We will definitely come back.
We were late for our reservation due to traffic and they were very accommodating. Suggested a great wine and were attentive. My fish special (Char) was excellent and my companions's steak was very tender. This was a pre theater dinner and would definitely do again!
I found my new pre-theatre spot! The catch was well prepared. My husband's seafood was delicious. Service was great. Parking drop off and pick up was a little confusing as there was only 1 valet and many cars.
Good place for pre-theater meal. Very close to the Kennedy Center. Cozy spot that crams tables in next to the bar, so expect a lot of noise and not a lot of table space. Food was good, service needs work. Immediately tries to push bottles of wine on us, wine on the menu wasn't available and tried to assume an alternative and had to push to get the menu back, when clearing the table dropped food all over my wife's brand new coat. Good food, but don't expect the level of service typically for the $$.
Excellent squash soup. Delicious crab salad w/ mango and avocado. Rich chocolate dessert.
The area around the Kennedy Center is a food desert, so it was great to find DISH+drinks, which is an easy 7-10 minute walk away. They have a very nice pre-theater dinner and, as other reviewers have noted, they know their guests. Drinks, dinner and dessert were all served well within time to walk back to the Kennedy Center for the performance. I can happily recommend!
I recommend this restaurant only if you need dinner before a show at the nearby Kennedy Center. I wouldn't make a special trip to come here otherwise when there are so many better, more creative restaurants in the DC area.
We had a good experience at Dish. It is close to the Kennedy Center which makes it a good pretheater choice. There is a 3 course pre-theater prix fixe menu too. The waiter recommended a very good wine to accompany our meal.
It's our go-to choice for a casual dinner after work or before going to the Kennedy Center. Good menu, excellent choice of wines, knowledgeable staff.
Also, this restaurant is quiet enough that one can actually have a conversation. This is very unusual for a DC eatery. This is why it should be everyone's first choice.
Valet parking, quiet, good location, yummy food -- what else could one ask for?
