Dirty Habit Ratings and Reviews
Outdoor patio is great. That being said. W arrived for a 9 PM reservation and they were not completely full. Waited 45 minutes to get drink order taken, and another 20 to get drinks delivered. After finishing our round of drinks we asked for the check. Another 20 minutes and nothing. Finally we got up to leave and asked for the check on the way out, only to be told by 2 people they weren't our server and couldn't help us. What a mess.
Terrible service from start to finish: hostess was rude to my date when she arrived early and asked if the table might be ready, then failed to invite her to the bar for a drink while waiting; my date had acknowledged being early and is generally not critical of restaurant staff.
She already had a drink from the bar, my sparkling water took 10 minutes to arrive. This was the first chance we had to send back the cocktail that she didn't like; she was not alone, table next to us sent back cocktails and wine, then left before food because they were being so completely ignored.
Replacement glass of wine arrived 15min later after we had finished the apps. Back waiters deliver food quickly, but server didn't check back except when plates were cleared to get entree order.
Menus and drink lists were still in the table when the entrees came out. Drink we sent back was on the check, when I pointed this out there was no apology, like I had asked a favor. Total meal time (no dessert) = 2hrs. Total server smiles during service = 0.
Food was okay, not worth the hotel-restaurant prices - mostly the same things you will find on every SF restaurant menu these days (seasoned fries, little gem salad, shishito peppers, $20 burger, foie gras with toast and jam). Scallops were different and good, personal preference would have been for a slightly longer sear, artichokes were different and also good. Trout salad was fine.
Kudos to the kitchen for executing well and efficiently, and to the front of house support staff - both of these teams are clearly on-point, and they deserve to have a far better face put on their work than what I experienced.
IMO, there are countless better examples of a similar menu, better drinks, and identical ambiance within half a mile and for 25% less cost.
I would have never found this place if it wasn't for a friend who had heard about it. Who wouldn't want to go to a Dirty Habit and talk about it the next day??? The cocktails are fantastic and unique - don't waste your time with the wine list, take advantage of their creations. Treat this restaurant like you would a tapas restaurant and share the plates - there are too many great things to try that really will meet all of your cravings. This place can get busy so book early to have conversation, later to be part of the buzz. If you want outside seating - it is not open so I recommend asking for it in your Open Table reservation. We were there and it was around 60 outside and it was fantastic with the heaters above ... just try not to sit right under them or else you will get warm.
Great burger and perfect Kennebunk fries. Excellent fresh garlic ravioli. Very good and fast service. Cool environment reminiscent of a bourbon cave.
The table next to us was enjoying a shared cocktail (in a copper goose punch bowl!!) and they looked like they were having fun.
Downsides are the prices and teeny-tiny "large" beer 🍻
The cocktails were exceptional. The patio is a great experience, however there were not enough waitstaff to properly service the area. Our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful, yet our drinks were empty more often than full. We watched many groups leave before even getting a drink or after having one round and waiting forever to get a second drink...they would finally give up. The food is good, the drinks are great. the space is nice...they just need more waitstaff on the patio to keep the drinks flowing.
The Food was very good. Pricey but good and we would go again for the food. The Drinks were good as well. The service is horrible. Not a friendly person on the crew except maybe the person filling our water. We ended up ordering several small dishes instead of main dishes and let the wait staff know. We started with a cheese plate, put down at the table with no direction of which cheese was what. The rest of the food came out in no special order and before we finished the cheese plate! Seemed like the place was empty until we went out back where everyone was sitting, we were not even offered the opportunity to sit there. So if you want to sit there make sure to put it on your res request. When the check was returned, no thank you, as we left the restaurant, 2 staff at the door and again no Thank you or even acknowledgement. We wanted to love this place and think it could be great with some upgrade of the personalities of the staff...
Cool vibe, hipster hangout
Had dinner with a friend and wanted to try this place out. It was Wednesday night and it was packed! The bar was so full I could barely get to the bar, but the bar tender was good and efficient. We sat outside which is the highlight of the place. Nice vibe, but the service was very unprofessional and apparently overwhelmed.
Nice selection of California cuisine 'tapas' style, with great cauliflower, good short rib dish and an ok crab dumpling. I would go back to grab a drink sit outside on a nice SF evening.
I've been here a few times, but was really let down by my most recent visit. The patio is so pretty, but unfortunately was closed this time for a private party. The food and drinks are pretty good, though on the pricey side. Unfortunately the service this time was terrible. They were inattentive, slow, and rude. My boyfriend ordered a burger, and when it arrived asked for ketchup. They said "sure," but the ketchup didn't arrive. Nor did it arrive the second or third time we asked. On the 4th ask, the waitress said rudely, "We don't serve ketchup here, so we're going to have to go find some." It is a BURGER, people, and this is not the French Laundry. Get over your superior selves. But more importantly, if you choose not to serve ketchup (as is well within your rights as the business operators), be honest enough to say up front that it will take a few minutes, rather than acting exasperated when someone asks for the 4th time and 20 minutes later for the same damn thing.
The 5 of us were sat at a table for 4 which was too small. The waitress was clearly new and nervous. We had to wait 15 mins to order drinks then another 20 mins for the wine to arrive. The waitress was shaking when she poured the wine and couldn't answer our menu questions. She was very slow and made no conversation. Very disappointed.
This was a great place for my birthday the other day!! I felt back cuz 16 of my friends were supposed to come so we book like 3 reservations but 8 ended up canceling same day :( the food and drinks were super delightful. I wish the waitress though informed us the time they stopped serving food. When we were in the elevator anther group was talking about how they got kicked out cuz of the closing time. Which I thought was weird since I was a server in the food industrie that we had to stay till they were fully finished. Even if they were talking for two hours more. Anyways, I loved the drinks and the oysters and muscles. I wil deff be back :)
The servers were friendly. The hostess told us when we sat down though that in 3.5 hours another reservation would be taking our table. So that was weird and unfriendly feeling. Most (all but 2 when I went) of the items on the menu are small plate and range in what feels like an appropriate value for what you get. The food comes though at weird pacing because of this as it comes out when it's ready. We ordered everything at once and it wasn't really busy (Just a few others tables) and it took about an hour to get a burger with just about everything else coming out before then. So if you're thinking of cobbling together a protein and a vegetable to make a dinner plate it will work, just in time.
The cocktails are quite good, original and come out in a reasonable amount of time.
They mention a view on their website and I guess if you go into this one like private tasting room looking single table for large parties, there is a view over 4th St. but really you're in the middle of building and not the top floor. There were technically windows behind us but you just see the concrete of the building next door.
The first time I went here I was really impressed with the service and food. This time around poor service, food was poor although I ordered the exact items from my first visit. My first experience I sat at the bar and this time I reserved a table. I am not sure if that impacted the service revived.
Took my fire date to this moody restaurant on a Friday night. Entered the front BOOM! Dig the vibe. Ordered food and drink. I spilled an organic, local, zesty IPA all over my nice pants. Kept it cool. Bus staff helped me immediately , very cool. Everything is chill. Food was good. Didn't like one dish, they took it back didn't charge us. Very chill.
Went here for NYE dinner. The food was phenomenal. It was quieter for a holiday, which was refreshing. They closed before midnight that night. The outdoor space was very classy, sexy, romantic with the glass fire place and calming water fountain balls. The food was very well done. Flavors were on point. The short rib dish will have you thinking about it for days. The lamb belly buns fantastic, unique flavor!!! Would recommend for a nice night out.
We opted to let waitress pretty much decide our cocktail, entree, and dessert choices.
Absolutely one of the best recent dining adventures.
Two Cuties in a Glass drinks were refreshing and unique, with tequila up front, Beef Short Ribs and Chicken Wings both were outstanding; very delicious and different sauces and glazes. The Ice Cream Sandwich was a perfect finish, and undoubtedly the tastiest homemade ice cream we ever had.
I booked a table for 6 and when we arrived our table was ready so we didn't have to wait at all. The restaurant wasn't packed but had a decent number of people. The menu sounded and looked delicious and we followed our waitress' recommendation on the number of dishes. The drinks were great and a good size (try the shared drinks that come in a generous punch bowl) however everything was downhill from there. The portions were small in comparison to otherplaces where you pay around $18-20 per tapas. While the dishes themselves were delicious, we were underwhelmed and shocked by the size. Our waitress was inattentive, service was extremely slow, and one of our orders (thick cut fries) was forgotten and then arrived cold 15 mins after we inquired about it (how can you mess that up?). We were forced to pay a 20% tip since we were a group of 6, but I would've paid much much less for this experience. Overall, delicious food, extremely small portions/overpriced for what it is, good drinks, and horrible service.
I LOVE the ambiance at Dirty Habit and all the gorgeous light fixtures and decor! The food was great too. I ordered the chicken wings which had an incredible & unique flavor, and were perfectly crispy! So yummy!
My drink was imaginative and beautifully put together.
My boyfriend loved his meal as well and had a lovely birthday there :)
not really a restaurant but a bar with tables for noshing. menu features lots of share plates which can be served as an entrée such as the burger. food is fine, service is fine. I do like the interesting dessert - coconut pudding with sesame crackers, black tapioca pearls, and pears, with a hint of jasmine flavor.
We chose this place because of some decent reviews, for our dinner while in SF. The handcrafted cocktails and excellent service are the only things that kept us from leaving immediately following the food that came out. We ordered a few plates and all were misses. Not misses by an inch, but by a mile. The overall composition, creativity, and taste were unfortunate. As we were leaving, another couple in the elevator was discussing the same disappointment in the food. Like I said- absolutely try the place for the bar, but plan to eat somewhere else. Cheers
