Dirty French is a New York bistro created by Major Food Group’s Mario Carbone, Rich Torrisi and Jeff Zalaznick. The restaurant takes its culinary cues from the timeless dishes and preparations of classic French bistros and enlivens them utilizing modern techniques and bold flavors. Dishes like Duck à l’Orange with ras el hanout and preserved oranges remain true to their French roots but are restyled with flavors that explore the breadth and depth of the global French culinary influence. Dirty French is located in the Ludlow Hotel in Manhattan’s storied Lower East Side.

We had been wanting to try this place for a while and finally made it over last weekend to celebrate our anniversary. I’m Happy to say it was a very solid choice. We were greeted by the very fabulous Royce who gave us a lovely table and made some very good recommendations. We had the lamb carpaccio, the grilled oysters and the duck. All were excellent choices. The bread they give you is also delicious. We had the lemon tart for dessert which was also good
Brunch for 8 and it was wonderful. Thanks
Unbelievable from beginning to end!!
Overall a good experience. Appetizers were good, entree’s very good. Service was food and not intrusive . The atmosphere was very nice but the blaring 80s pop music has to go. Finally I wish they had some more reasonable price options on wine. At this price point (both food and wine) there definitely are better options out there.
espectacular! muy buen lugar! muy buena comida, buen ambiente
I never write a negative review however today’s experience was a true disappointment. I read other reviews about how bad the service was and since I wasn’t in a rush I didn’t think much of it and it was astonishing to experience such a lack of service and untrained waitstaff. The food was also disappointing I ordered the duck confit hash... both the duck and the potatoes were so crispy that they were crunchy… Way over done.
Fabulous on all counts. Food was spectacular and service attentive and helpful.
Excellent French bistro food. Service was friendly but a bit disorganized at opening for lunch. Noise level would probably be much higher when busy.
Brunch was fabulous
This was my second time here and first time for the lunch menu. The food was fantastic. Had the oysters with a friend and we each got a sandwich. Both were perfection.
Food was so good We also stayed for a coffee and some dessert.
Will definitely be coming here more often.
Millefuille was amazing ... pair with a Gewurtztraminer & pat yourself on the back.
Phenomenal food. Wonderful service. Delicious cocktails. Great spot to go for a fun meal
My party found the experience of food and ambience very enjoyable, with attentive service.
Negotiating the wine list was shocking.
Paris Bistro's offer wine that is affordable to compliment the meal, but here, Dirty French takes the opportunity to gouge. It was a struggle to find a bottle for less than $70....Makes me less likely to return....
We had an awesome brunch experience at Dirty French! We got seated in their patio area and it was so beautiful with a lot of light and it was very comfortable because it was covered.
They also have live jazz music on Sundays so it had a great vibe.
I got the duck hash for brunch... highly recommend it! It was tasty and eggs were perfectly cooked.
We also shared the Pims drink which is not only refreshing but also pretty!
I would definitely go back to Dirty French for brunch.
Fun place! Great for a late night meal. Food and ambiance are excellent
The food was delicious, the atmosphere was so much fun but the service was terrible. It just made dinner longer though which was fun!
This visit was wonderful, as usually. The staff made our 31st Anniversary special.
The food is always extraordinary. This is one of our favorite restaurants so we will return. Wish it was tomorrow!
Great food and drinks. The complimentary flatbread was actually heavenly. I would’ve just had that for dinner, it was that good! Excellent service as well. Highly recommend for a fancy date night.
Good food and festive atmosphere. But disorganized service and overpriced. Limited wine list and literally 5 different bottles I selected were unavailable. Overall: not bad, but not special and not worth the money.
It was recommended to me by a friend but I had no idea how superb it would be. Every dish we had just kept making us happier and happier.
Good drinks. Nice vibe.
Dirty French is a quaint, restaurant w great ambiance. However, I cannot rave about the food -
I had the Spicey Pork chop - which was quite fatty and the taste was covered up by the sauce.
My Friend had the Lamb Chops, which he claimed was tasty, but this restaurant is expensive - as are the wines - whether by the glass of the bottle.
Not a fav in NYC.
Fantastic french dip sandwich, kale salad and squash soup!!!!!!!
We were asked about drinks right away. Once we were finally approached to order, the waitress was very knowledgeable and helped customise the orders. We waited a while to be served however. Delicious food.
Charming decor, great food
Dirty French is an awesome dining experience.. Food, ambiance and service is outstanding!
Delicious food - we had the grilled oysters and the foie gras to start and then shared the Dover sole etouffe. Our server Pamela was amusing and congenial. The decor is eclectic and the crowd fashionable. Space is a little tight but workable.
The food is great. However, that was the only positive part of the experience.
We were a party of four with a reservation. Two of us arrived about 5-10 minutes before the other two who were stuck in traffic but very close. I explained this to the hostess when we arrived and asked if my girlfriend and I could be seated and have drinks at the table while we waited. She said no and also that if the other couple didn't arrive within 10 minutes they would give away our table. Keep in mind, we were actually a few minutes early at this point.
Once we did get to the table, the waiter was rude almost to the point of being hostile from the moment he spoke to us. He was rude in particular to the two women in our party when they asked some questions about the items on the menu. Additionally it was impossible to get anyone to take our drink orders throughout the entire evening.
While the food is good, I wouldn't recommend anyone pay the price to have dinner here because of how they treat their patrons.
The wait staff and the bus staff could use a little more refinement. There were many times during dinner where it they reach across the table or asked questions when we were in intense conversations.
Celebrated our 20th here. Delicious food, every course. Beautifully prepared. Wait staff was friendly attentive. Som was the best.
We had a fantastic evening at Dirty French. The food was outstanding and our waiter (an Asian woman - I wish I could remember her name) was amazing. So passionate about food and her descriptions and recommendations were spot on. It was my second visit and I still LOVE this place.
Came here for my Birthday. The ambiance, service, drinks and food were phenomenal!
I was told Dirty French was lively and fun for a meal with out of town guests. But people were literally asleep on the couches in the back. I’m not sure if it was because of the late night or it was just an off night, but the restaurant was really quiet. Food was great, but was very surprised by the ambience (or lack thereof...).
Food — Awesome! A fresh twist on the classics!
Service — Spectacular! A real pleasure!
Ambiance — Fun! Spacious! Comfortable!
I can’t wait to go back!
The food is fresh. light, and authentic. Never a disappointment to come here when you want to eat amazing French cuisine.
Great service! We were a large group and they were very accommodating.
Most of the food was ok. received a rancid piece of fish, they, of course, accommodated me, but for $39 to take a bite of fish that smelled disgusting and tasted completely spoiled... not going back.
Fabulous restaurant, casual chic, and attentive service
Our wait staff was amazing. Erin was so wonderful. The food was top notch and the environment was funky and fun. We love Carbone but this was fresh and exciting. The music was so fun too! And OMG the grilled bread with soft cheese. I will be dreaming about that for a long time!
Waiter was slow and kept pouring bottled water like crazy. Bill includes $50 worth of bottled water. Absolutely insane !
