Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe Ratings and Reviews
The poise and etiquette by the staff was extremely refreshing. Cozy, tables aren't on top of each other trying to cram in as many people as possible. They DO enforce quiet via shushing and tabletoppers asking people to keep any conversation to a low din, which is something I wish Cliff Bells was able to do. The food is good though I thought some dishes needed some more flavor. Also I know it is not open late however I wish after the last set they didn't raise the lights to an instant blinding, brilliance... I find it tends to kill some of the mood that was created. Absolutely recommended.
My boyfriend and I went to listen to the live Jazz which was way beyond our expectations. The atmosphere was romantic. The noise level was low and respectful to the Jazz singer. The food was delicious and perfectly portioned. The best part was the service. Staff was very knowledgeable and very attentive. I will be recommending this place to family and friends and returning myself.
I Angela R. Culver-Richards would like to thank the MANAGER that was on shift FEB 13 2015 FOR ASSISTING ME . Went on line to make resveration had lunch time instead of evening had this day plan a week ago for my GOD PARENTS AGE 70-80YRDS. They had a wonderful time this was a day they will always remember and will always talk about. Thank you MR. MANAGER KEEP DOING A WONDERFUL JOB.
I wasn't really happy with the food there. My entree was presented cold as well as my side dish, along with my guests at my table. When I sent it back it was returned again cold. The server warned me of my plate being extremely hot, however when I touched it, it was ice cold. I'd expect more when paying over $200 for that evening. I enjoyed the music and drinks and I would reccomend anyone who's looking for that to go there. As far as dinning I'd suggest going elsewhere.
Did not realize that the atmosphere did not cater to socializing with persons in my party.
We wanted to come dine, eat, drink and laugh. That was not what we were allowed to do then we were abruptly asked to leave. It certainly should be made clear that the event isn't for such a party. We certainly would have gone elsewhere. We were scolded for simply wanting to socialize with one another. It was apparent with the hostess/waitresses that they were irritated by us. I feel, as the planner of the night out, that I made a bad choice. We were celebrating a fellow co- worker who was leaving after 25years of service, but could not talk, laugh and reminisce about our time together.
Again, I just feel it should be made clear that the night does not accommodate socializing.
I am from Westland and I did not mind the traveling to Gross Pointe Farms. The location was great (I just wish I had come in the summer months) to enjoy the walking and the shopping. Everyone was nice and friendly especially the valet, he was exceptionally pleasant and friendly - even with the 10 degree temperature outside :). Though I have not heard of Walt Szymanski (I think that was is name) he and his band were fantastic, his (their) energy was wonderful!!! The waitstaff was good, however my boyfriend's food was cold and not only was my food not hot, the sweet potatoes were like little cube rocks and my pork chop was tough and had some much fat that I sent it back and ordered an appetizer. Considering the menu is limited and the prices are over priced, overall I think it was a good experience. I don't know why their is a $15 per person cover charge because no matter what if someone did not show up, you would have not problem giving the seat/reservation to someone else.
Great combination of great music (Thornetta Davis) and good food. Good that they put reminders on tables asking to keep conversation low out of respect for performers AND patrons who come for the music, not to hear another table's chatter. But the night we were there, the loudest conversations came from wait staff hanging out at the end of the bar! Love this place; it's so intimate. I take people from out of town all the time. It feels like NYC but is so friendly!
Went for the jazz, enjoyed not only that but a great fixed price menu and exceptionally friendly service in an intimate atmosphere. Have been wanted to go to this place for years, and will be sure to go back. Good for a romantic evening, special occasion, or even medium size groups. Meal was very tasty, great presentation, excellent value. Looked like they had lots of "regulars" at the bar.
If you like jazz in an intimate setting with refined culinary experience, the DDJC is a good choice. The trio performance was engaging and masterful, but the opportunity to enjoy it with my wife who isn't a great jazz fan was an added bonus. Very comfortable setting, good food and friendly people all combined to make this a wonderful evening.
The restaurant is truly a gem of the area. There is a heavy emphasis on music. You must arrive 30 minutes prior to the show so that your hustling and bustling doesn't disrupt the performance. The food is pretty tasty and the musical artists are always good. We enjoyed Alvin Waddles. Prepare to spend $100 or more. You have to pay an admission fee and average plates are $25 and up for small portions.
My husband and I visited for the first time. We were served luke-warm coffee. As we sent the coffee back, we realized the menu had very few options. We decided to leave. We were charged 30.00 cover charge and 6.00 for coffee we couldn't even drink. Very NOT classy customer service. Clearly they needed the money more than we did. We didn't even protest; we paid and got out of there. Won't EVER go back.
I will NEVER go to this place again. The food is not good at all. The entertainment was the best part of the evening and that was mediocre. The website is misleading regarding the cost for a cancelled reservation. You are charged a cover charge regardless. It being my first time at the cafe I asked the waitress for a food recommendation and she said the Hamburger...Wow. I would suggest when considering a jazz cafe visit Bakers instead. The food, and entertainment are great.
We had a great time celebrating my birthday, I love the decor of this venue, nicely done, small, but very intimate with complimentary valet. The music was amazing and the food was excellent! Its a bit pricy as everything is ala carte, but for a special occassion, its worth it. A nice place for music after dinner as well. I would like to say is a vibrant bar scene, but I can't only because the bar area is small so there's limited seating. However, everyone at the bar seem to be enjoying themselves. It was a wonderful evening!
VERY WARM & WELCOMED GREETING UPON ENTERTING THE RESTAURANT. THIS WAS A FIRST FOR US AS WE WERE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHOOSE WHICH TABLE WE WOULD LIKE TO BE SEATED AT. THE DINNER MENU FEATERED A VERY NICE SELECTION OF FOODS. OUR SERVICER LAUREN WAS PROMPT & FRIENDLY. THE MUSIC WAS FANTASTIC. THE WHOLE EVENING FROM THE ONSET WAS A GREAT EXPERICENCE. IF YOU LIKE JAZZ, GOOD FOOD AND A FUN ATMOSPHERE THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE!!!
Let me start this review by saying we frequent a lot of resturants throughout the months, not only in the city areas but around the State. With that being said, don't waste your money. The jazz was great and on point but the service and food was awful. Such a disapointment. Our waitress was so unattentive that we had to ask for our needs, including water, by another wait staff 3 times. Then when the food came it was cold. I work at the Medical center and we were going to look into renting the entire facility for our annual party just for a change, as we the doctors sponsor the party. I told my co workers no way. We are currently looking for another facility now. I have been sharing with everyone I know this disappointment.
I sent my mother and her sisters to dine and have fun, they all came back with great comments for how they were greeted, the good food and great music. They enjoyed every moment there. Thank you so much! You will never know how much this night has made them happy and ready to go back again.
I went with three other friends for some good food, fun music and a relaxed get together. This place met, indeed exceeded, our expectations. It is upscale without any pretention or stuffiness. Very attentive, but non-intrusive, wait-staff. A fixed-price dinner menu with some very nice selections and well prepared and delicious food. Mellow, low-key patrons. The only disappointment was that at the Wednesday night session, the group played for only an hour, and we were the last to leave at 10:15. Strange for a jazz venue. What a pleasant surprise in the "backyard" of my Grosse Point Shores neighborhood. Congratulations. We shall return!
