I have been wanting to eat here for several years. Food was amazing. Worth the splurge for a tasting menu. I will definitely return to have food a la carte in the bar.
Exceptional, creative food!
Excellent service, superb presentation and the food was to die for !
Excellent inspirational food. Perfect service. Highlight of my birthday trip to New York.
I have also devoured Amanda Cohen’s cookbook which I purchased and she signed for me at the restaurant that evening. It has heightened my expectations for vegan and vegetarian cooking forever!
We visited Dirt Candy whilst on holiday in New York. The food was incredible, I’ve eaten in many vegetarian restaurants before but nothing like this- we went for the 5 course option which was plenty, especially as course 4, Brussel sprout tacos (a lot better than it sounds) was a full main course in itself. Only slight criticism is we we’re sat at the counter overlooking the restaurant, I was expecting a table and was disappointed not to be consulted on this. Overall though a fantastic, interesting dinner.
Wonderful to see vegetarian cuisine elevated to this level.
So delicious! Even my meat and potatoes husband was impressed.
Wish the food handlers would wear gloves though
Amazing 9 course degustation, well balanced and progresses beautifully with a variety of tastes, textures and experiences. Service was wonderful, very personal and attentive. Could not ask for more - even though I did (extra monkey bread) - and they delivered happily!
Really interesting and enjoyable meal. Some of the dishes got stacked toward the end, which felt weirdly rushed but overall a wonderful meal. Highly recommend.
Absolutely wonderful experience.
Quite possibly one of the best meals I have ever had. The service was exceptional. We had the nine course tasting menu and were served so many things that blew our minds. My husband hates beets. And when we were served the beet yakitori, he devoured it. I am not a fan of fennel. And yet the fennel tagine was spectacular. This is a place where you go in with an open mind and delight in the adventure. I was having fun just seeing other people react to their dishes! Such a joy. And we will absolutely be back. Though probably not as soon as I would like!
I have been wanting to try Dirt Candy for long time but rarely make it to NYC (from SF). I was here for business and was lucky enough to get a table and find a friend to join. My friend wasn’t so interested in vegetarian cuisine! We had a fantastic meal. Food, service, wines by the glass were superb. The variety, complexity and harmony of the dishes was quite surprising and impressive for us. A very memorable dining experience for sure .
We ordered the 9 course meal because we wanted to experience a great variety of foods. From start to finish, everything was delicious, the presentations were often whimsical and lovely, and the service was first rate. My favorites were the tomato course (a tart with tomato leather, cherry tomato lollipops with pistachios and cheese, gazpacho, and greens with a tomato dressing), the carrot slider, and the cabbage broth with kohlrabi/ricotta dumplings. There were two dessert courses, which was a bit of overkill. We walked out fully sated and dying to come back to try the Brussel sprout tacos we saw at another table.
Met my expectations, and in ways exceeded them. The washroom is worth the visit!
As a vegan, it is a pleasure to have a place to go that prepares complex and inventive meals. And I left really full.
The restaurant has so many positive points to highlight
1) Inventive and sustainable menu
2) Ethical values in their suppliers and how they pay staff a fair wage as well as sharing in the profits of the company.
3) Service was excellent.
A wonderful experience and if you have any doubt and can afford the $99 menu do but I would say go hungry!!
The most creative vegetarian restaurant! Must try for any vegetarian.
Dirt Candy is a fun concept for those into eating vegetables in ways they never would have imagined. The 10 course tasting menu offers a variety of items that come uniquely presented. There was a lack of cohesion in the menu, however, which made it a bit difficult to understand the reasoning behind the food choices and flow of the meal. The standout dish was the korean fried broccoli, with its tangy and flavorful encrusting; but there's something to be said for cauliflower here, which would have felt like a better fit for the dish. As a fan of mushrooms myself, even I was overwhelmed by the usage of them through the meal. Mushroom foie gras with a mushroom accompaniment, mushroom fennel sausage, mushroom pudding and a mushroom chocolate was all a bit overkill. Tasty, but again confusing, was the 7th course slider made of a carrot chunk that was too big for what it was trying to accomplish. The sauce on the slider will bring you back to the drive thru at McDonalds, getting that big mac and tasting that first bite of sauce. More restraint on the carrot and more sauce could easily fix this dish. Although a slider didn't fit anywhere into the meal as a concept. Overall, this wasn't bad, but I wouldn't say I'd be a frequent customer. The concept is unique and a lot could be done if there was more thought put into the story they are trying to tell. Waitstaff was lovely, which I can only attribute to a woman owning the business and paying them a salary instead of working for tips.
Really creative vegetarian dishes. And delicious. Almost too much food in prix fixe menu but we will not forget the meal.
Our five course tasting menu was outstanding. We had fantastic, creative food and top notch service. Thank you so much for the vegan option !
The food is good, what little they give you. A fun time, but a few of the items (e.g. carrot sliders) were all presentation and no punch. Many items were excellent , though-- the terrior tower was fantastic. Felt like it was bad value -- surprisingly small amount of food for $100/head.
Very accommodating for a vegan guest.
A most incredible dining experience. We had the 9 course tasting menu. All VEGAN. This was an incredible value compared to other higher end restaurants. There is a no tipping policy. Tip is already included. The staff works as a team to take care of you. We sat at the bar and it was incredibly entertaining to see the works of art being prepared. The presentation and attention to detail was superb. Quite possibly the most unique meal I have ever experienced. All of the flavors blended well together, the pacing was perfect, they did not rush us. We did not leave overly full after 9 courses. Just a perfect evening at Dirt Candy.
Outstanding. This was not food, this was an experience. Art. Creative, interesting, and delicious. We will be back!!
You can taste the love in the food! Always a good experience.
Amazing dining experience! As vegetarians, loved the selections. The courses felt a tad rushed.
Inventive food. Well described by staff.
So surprising, so unique, such attention to detail. Beautifully presented, divine food. Cauliflower cake? Who would have thought. A true experience. Could not recommend highly enough.
The flavors all night were otherworldly. While we juvenilely laughed at the portions at first, we soon learned that each bite was going to something special, and by course five, we were very full. The staff went above and beyond and treated my girlfriend to a lovely complementary 2-part dessert for her birthday. This meal is one you will walk away remembering and talking about for a long time, even if it feels like you’re dining at Tom Haverford’s favorite herbivore experience.
It was glorious! I've already recommended Dirt Candy to several people! Can't wait to go again
Amazing 10 course vegan/vegetarian degustation.
Unique, creative, vegetable dishes with excellent knowledgeable staff! Excellent service.
While the food and service were as good as can be, the best part about the restaurant was that there is a no tip policy which in the USA is astoundingly pleasing. Hope open table can get many others to use the policy.and also veg food which in itself is a big positive
OMG, I did not think that veggies could taste so good. The food is outstanding and over the top. You will not be disappointed even if you are a hardcore meat eater. Service is top notch and everyone is so welcoming.
Impeccable innovative and outstanding
No other restaurant like it.
What a delicious dinner and lovely staff- we had a great evening!
The service is great but the food is prettt average. One of the courses was good (carrot sliders and some kind of soup) but apart from that, the food wasn’t up to scratch, especially the sprout tacos... bit of a shame really! Vegetarians and vegans can eat better elsewhere.
I should have become Vegan long ago. This meal was AWESOME! Service was AWESOME! Presentation was AWESOME! Taste was AWESOME!
Everything was perfect.
Staff were impeccable.
This was event dining.
Thank you for your restaurant.
