Contemporary American
Cutting edge vegetables with added flavor and no politics in this sleek and stylish restaurant showcasing colorful, pop-tastic dishes from award-winning chef, Amanda Cohen. A full bar, counter seating, a wine list curated by wine director, Ben Eyring, and vegetables in all their earth-shattering, gob-smacking glory. Diners coming for dinner will have a choice of The Vegetable Patch ($65, tip included) featuring five courses of Dirt Candy’s greatest hits, or they can take a trip to The Vegetable Garden ($99, tip included) which is at least nine courses and changes according to the season, what we’re experimenting with, and what our foragers and farmers bring to our door. Dirt Candy offers an a la carte menu at the bar only.

What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation
8.4

The new and improved Dirt Candy location on the Lower East Side is bigger and shinier. And it’s still really, really good.

Ratings 8.0-8.5:The best way to think about restaurants in the low to mid 8′s is that these are the places you would absolutely go back to, anytime. These restaurants are ones that you want to bring a friend to, just so they can also experience the duck carnitas, or burger, or whatever dish the place is known for.

I was the last person to show for a 4ppl table - i was 30mins late due to an accident on the FDR, the hostess made sure to remind me how late i upon entering and with a ton of attitude, i did not visit Dirt Candy for her - i went for the food.

The food is unusual and beautifully presented and the service is impeccable. The plates are meant to be shared and the food is presented in a leisurely fashion so it's nice for an intimate dinner. The atmosphere is okay but not especially romantic, however. The tables are close together. We were seated at what I believe was called the "chefs' table" which is a bar beyond which the cooks are assembling the food. I think it turned out to be the best place to sit because it felt the least crowded. I would recommend this to a friend especially if they're looking for something unique on a special occasion.

Great meal, service, and vibe. I’m not a vegan, or a vegetarian and this was one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had.

Don’t miss it.

The drinks are overpriced, and the sandwich was just "regular delicious," but the side dishes and breads were unimaginably good--especially Korean BBQ broccoli (I might be mischaracterizing this, but just order any broccoli options you can).

Wonderful brunch at Dirt Candy for my sister's birthday. We
All the food we tasted was delicious and creative, I would particularly recommend: the tomato biscuits, the korean broccoli, the beet scones, the California crackers (kale waffles)
Our waitress brought us dessert (cucumber sorbet - perfect since the rest of the food was very filling) with a candle for my sister's birthday.

Dirt Candy was very accomodating and the perfect place to celebrate our birthday. The courses were well-prepared and thoughtful. We were seated at the high-top, countertop table and a couple of the food preparers spoke to us. The food preparation is excellent. Our waitress was friendly and the ambience was sleek and sophisticated. They had the four-course tasting menu and my partner is vegan so they tailored it for him. We both loved the entire tasting menu. Highly recommend.

I first read about Dirt Candy as being a cool NYC dining experience and it did not disappoint! The staff were very attentive and the Garden Patch (5 courses) was plenty of food for 2 people. We also thoughly enjoyed reading their cookbook created by the restaurant's founder Amanda, that also shared the store of how Dirt Candy was first created. I was also pleased to learn on arrival that it is a Vegetable Restaurant, meaning vegetable-focused, not a Vegetarian Restaurant. This made the dishes much more interesting, unique and above all - DELICIOUS! Who knew cauliflower layered cake could be so divine?! Thank you for the wonderful experience! We certainly won't forget it and look forward to coming back next time we're in NYC!

Something always blows my mind here; this time it was the "imitation caviar'. We did the larger tasting menu and left very full and pleased with our service. We sat at the chef's bar and were really surprised with how quiet and orderly the kitchen was. Hats off to Chef Amanda because her team is rocking it! Will definitely be back.
