We arrived early for our reservation and were greeted with a complimentary cup of beet hot cocoa - we had an absolutely mind-blowing meals and each course continued to delight. Incredible veggie food and lovely servers. Hope to come again when we come back to NY.
Delicious dishes, wonderful service, fun menus and ambience. We had a lovely experience. A+
Excellent anniversary lunch. Great food, drinks, service. Thanks!
The brunch menu is quite limited, with a good section dedicated to sandwiches (so for that's 30% of the menu eliminated for non sandwich eaters). There are 2 items on the menu that are GF. Food is generally under seasoned. Service was quite poor - wait staff did not quite bother to explain the menu, take our payment and to top it off, I thanked the waiter as I left an he (without making eye contact, said mm-hmm..). Won't be going back.
We did the 9 course tasting. Our party had numerous dietary restrictions but they were able to accommodate everything. The food was not only beautiful but delicious.
My wife and I attended for her birthday - they were extremely vegan friendly and did their best to accommodate my Paleo diet (but it's very challenging, so make sure you're okay with eating soy if you do have that restriction). The food was so interesting and fresh - just good real food.
Dirt Candy is truly a place to visit. Whether your a Vegetarian or Vegan this place is worth trying.
The decor is modern, but it could be more spacious. Weekend reservations can be a challenge, but weekdays are more promising. It took me over a month to book a Saturday reservation, but it was so worth it.
The pricing is fixed per person and depending on the “batch” of food you prefer.
The standard is “ the vegetable patch”. And for first timers like me I opted for “the vegetable garden” for me and my best friend “AH”.
We are both vegans and I will tell you the chef will absolutely accommodate to your lifestyle.
Don’t be discouraged as the portions in the vegetable garden is small, but it makes up in the courses that follows it.
There are approximately 9 to 10 courses as they advertised on their website. But we were fortunately to have 10. Every single dish was wonderful.
The options, the creativity, the flavor, the presentation, and most of all the taste was absolutely impressive.
Although, they do have a wine pairing on site, I heard it’s absolutely fantastic.
There’s a lot of dishes that we tried. From the tower of salad to the carrot sliders to the mini hibachi grill that serves a vegan type Mushu duck, Japanese eggplant dessert with caramelized egg plant chips and lemon sorbet. Your taste buds will go wild.
If you choose to go this route please allow yourself at least 2 1/2 hours. My “bestie” and I are going back in the near future. And for the budget conscious, this is definitely A place to try.
The restaurant was good but I really thought it was going to blow me away which it didn't. Korean Fried Broccoli was much too sweet. Jalapeno Fritters were good. Brussels Sprout Tacos were good mostly because of the smoked avocado but I think I would have enjoyed an actual taco instead of lettuce wraps. Poolside Breeze was too sweet. Bloody Carrie was good.
EVERYTHING was amazing, from the service (namely Jackie, the hostess/ wine goddess/ server/ food runner/ coat hanger/ bar recommender...) to the atmosphere (we sat at the bar), to the food. We opted for the 5 course option and it was plenty of food. The carrot sliders, the broccoli hot dog, and the brussel sprout tacos were ALL amazing. (Note: You don’t get the tacos with the 7 course meal). I have never written a review on here before, despite using the app frequently, as I have never really felt so inclined to do so. This restaurant changed my perspective on that. We’ll definitely be back.
We entered at the beginning of service because of our own imposed schedule. It’s tough for a team to get into a groove right out of the gate but this establishment showed they can.
Lead by Jackie at the front door who exudes hospitality, we felt welcomed throughout as the kitchen executed the longer tasting menu within our 2 hour time frame. Kudos to everyone involved. Look forward to visiting again. Cheers.
Fabulous dining experience - amazing presentation of delicious vegetarian fare
Great variety of delicious and finely prepared dishes. Loved every bite, especially the smoked garlic oil and carrot puree burgers. Looking forward to going back.
Great selection of vegetarian options, which could be made vegan. And a top offer for brunch: $30 for an entree, pastry, coffee and a cocktail (with tip included in their fair pricing policy!)
What an absolute delight. We have the 9 course menu and each dish was spectacular, the matched wines were the perfect addition.
Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and just made the experience really great. Cannot wait to come back!
Dirt Candy was amazing. The food was so delicious and all vegetarian. Highly recommend the jalapeno hush puppies with the maple butter. Thanks for a satisfying meal with fabulous service!
Everything we had was delicious and the presentation was exceptional. When my boyfriend and I were served a plate of beets as one of our courses (we both hate beets) they actually offered to make us something new. Don't be turned off by the small portions, we were well attended to throughout the whole dinner (which took around 2 hrs) and we definitely felt full when we left!
This was a fabulous dining experience. Food and service were worth the wait
Notable and innovative use of veggies - and I say “veggies” here because of the playfulness of the meal. Clearly a love letter written on a scrap of brown paper grocery bag. Precious, heartfelt and labor intensive interpretations of deconstructed salad, spinach and carrots among many others. No potatoes though - and good riddance - beets steal the show. Our clear favourite of the 9 courses we were presented: spinach spaetzele with young shiso leaves, sesame and butter. Beautiful and delicate. Beet soda was also nicely balanced, not cloyingly earthy but not sickly sweet. We thought the cabbage was weakest - needing a roasted kale leaf instead of pink pickled cauliflower. Seems like an opportunity to add the old standby kale chip for texture and seasoning. Still, as an 18 year veteran vegetarian it is great to be surprised again. Now I have used the word “precious” in this review - take it for what it’s worth - there is no lack of heartiness, but nor is there the avant-garde misandry that could accompany this kind of cuisine. Let’s just say we didn’t need to ask our server: “how do we eat this?” From concept to dinnerware choice there is an inherent coziness. Dare I say: it was hyggelig.
Dirt Candy was not only delicious, it is the most creative dining pleasure we have ever experienced. Both the food and service were excellent and we highly recommend this unique restaurant.
Amazing food that left us omnivorous thoroughly satisfied.
Such a great experience. Enjoyed the 10-course tasting + wine paring. Everything was INCREDIBLE! Cannot wait to go again with others to share such an exciting meal!
What a joke. Please update the menu. You start strong with the tower presentation then fall off a cliff. The broccoli was extremely salty. Carrot slider was on point...well done. The rest outside of the mushroom dessert was really average. Up your presentation game and get crafty with raw.
They give tons of food for a tasting so come hungry!
As someone who thinks about the ingredients and foods I put in my body, this dining experience was nirvana for me!! Chef Amanda is a force of flavor and kindness juxtaposed with quality and FUN.
Interesting place, lots of creative food choices. The menu was confusing, I didn't like the way they presented the food. We got the brussel sprout tacos which were too expensive in my opinion, they were delicious though.
Wonderful way to spend Valentines Day! Loved the 9-course meal option, and the timing between courses was perfect and allowed for a lengthy dining experience. (And the snap pea cocktail is worth a try - very unique!).
Really fabulous tasting experience of creative vegan offerings. I would go for the 5 course over the 9 course menu. We had the 9 course and it was altogether too much. Too many flavors, too much food. It was actually a turn off.
The 5 course if perfect.
The service is wonderful and the atmosphere is spacious, comfortable and offers a sense of privacy in that you have personal space.
I love the neighborhood!
This is adventurous flavorful eating. It is vegan/vegetarian, but I hesitate to call it health food! far more decadent! Be prepared!
Lovely birthday meal
Valentine's Day prix fixe dinners are generally a sketchy proposition - too little food for too much money and quick-tongued service trying to accomplish high turnover. Rock Candy was none of these things. Each of the 10+ dishes was tasty and surprising, the wine pairings were generously applied, the staff was attentive and fun but not pushy. Two carnivores left very full and satisfied.
As always Amanda delivers on a promise... The tasting menu for Valentine’s Day was amazing, creative, and fun. There’s not a day that isn’t a good day for Dirt Candy.
This was a pre-birthday treat from a friend--she was convinced we would not get reservations... but I am an infuriating optimist; and yes, we got reservations for that afternoon. Brunch was excellent--excellent choices (did not make it easy to choose), unusual pairings and flavors, very reasonably priced, and there was just a LOT of food! Really, Dirt Candy is a treat!
This place really knows vegetables. I loved every dish and it was such a pleasure not to have to think about what to order. Tasting menus are fun.
Amazing! Creativity and taste of the food, quality of the service and presentation, all was awesome. My new favorite vegetarian dinner spot by a long shot. Crazy good.
First time at Dirt Candy, but it won't be our last. Great, inventive vegetarian cuisine, lovely space, charming service, fun soundtrack.
4.5 Stars- This was such a delightful and unique experience. I felt like the food really didn't take itself too seriously. Some of the highlights were the carrot sliders (served in adorable takeout type containers), the beets were by far the best I have ever had. Every course was an innovative and had great ingenuity. Only reason it didn't get 5 stars was that not every single dish was a success, but I so appreciate all of the thought and effort that went into each and every thing that crossed our plates.
We had the 8-9 course offering, and it was an amazing experience. Full of fun and amusing moments, not something I can say about most meals I go out to eat. My only major critique is that 2 dessert courses was simply too much, in my opinion.
This was my 2nd time eating at Dirt Candy and I enjoyed the variety of unusual fusion items on the menu.
Food is outstanding with wonderful flavors. The squash biscuits were to die for! Will definitely be back again.
One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Service and food was supremely excellent.
