What Insiders Are Saying
The new and improved Dirt Candy location on the Lower East Side is bigger and shinier. And it’s still really, really good.
Innovative and delicious, with a vegetable (or several) featured in every dish including desserts. Yes, it’s expensive, but we had the $99pp nine-course Vegetable Garden and were thrilled with our decision. This was possibly the best meal I’ve ever had. The mezcal-beet juice cocktail was also sublime (and large). Extremely knowledgeable and attentive waitstaff. Prices include gratuity, which definitely softened the financial blow. Oh, and the portions are generous too — I’ve had a couple of tasting menus in which courses are just a bite or two. This was not that. Come here for a surprising and seriously amazing feast.
Amazing vegetarian and vegan dining all wonderful and variety in flavor and preparation.. 2 menu options, wine pairing add on and attentive service.
Fun, creative, beautiful and delicious meal! The larger prix Fire is a lot of food without realizing it! We just loved the chefs creative combinations—- a couple were a little funky but we all loved different things which was part of the fun.
Excellent well trained waitstaff as well. It all made for a super memorable evening for out of town clients.
As a side note: I mistakenly brought our group to dinner at 7 pm when I had made an 8 pm reservation—-the super sweet and warm hostess helped us get a table by 7:20pm and I much appreciated it!
Amazing dinner as usual! They made my friend’s birthday celebration a memorable one. Can’t wait to come back!
Inventive food with fantastic service. Highlights were the cucumber salad and a dish of various cauliflower in a delicious broth. We did the smaller of the tasting menus with a normal appetite and left comfortably full. I liked the open kitchen as the center of the dining area. Noise level was on the louder end but didn't require shouting to talk at a table for two.
This is a vegetarian’s paradise, with so many creative, tasty, and intriguing options on the menu! Service was excellent. Staff was very friendly. Very satisfying!
The food and presentation was incredible. The value also really a nice surprise. A really great experience overall. We just wish we had a print out of the menu, to remember what everything delicious item was and we did not receive the email after. While delicious and we like spicy, some dishes it would be good to know before hand that they had a kick. Still, I will go again and again. A hit!
AMAZING! The food was delicious, creative, and beautiful. The wine was excellent. The service was great.
Really special menu served nicely by friendly, warm people. Flavors and combinations to savor for a long time. A bit noisy but just about the same level as most restaurants these days.
My favorite restaurant. Amazing food and great cocktails
Magical cuisine and incredible service in a charming, understated environment.
My favorite restaurant in all of New York City. Every detail is thoughtfully considered. Love love love Dirt Candy!
So creative and delicious!
Each course was such an interesting mix of flavors and textures. I really loved everything and even the cauliflower cake at the end was delicious. Service was exceptional.
Artist/Chef Amanda Cohen is the next Alice Waters. Bravo Ms. Cohen! I will be back!
Food sucks. Pig in lipstick!
Creative, delicious dishes served by unpretentious and friendly professionals. Dirt Candy is a delight!
One of the most unique vegetarian food experiences! The food was amazing...the staff even better.
Superb prix-fixe vegetarian menu with creative dishes and friendly staff. Table at counter, with full view of the open kitchen, recommended.
Amazing, inventive, delicious...attentive service. Mentioned that it was my bfs birthday when I made the reservation, and they followed through with the requested candle-lit dessert. Made tweaks to the menu to accommodate our vegan diet.
Only disappointment was that it’s a price fixe menu now, so we couldn’t get some of our old faves (hush puppies, large order of crack broccoli, etc).
Will be back
BLEW ME AWAY. Don’t hesitate to come here. One of the most innovative vegetarian restaurants I’ve been to. As a lifelong vegetarian I hold restaurants to a very high standard when they claim to reinvent the wheel for us. This restaurant truly blew me away - I won’t describe the dishes as it will give the surprise away, but we had a fantastic experience here.
Our server, Kyle, was so kind and attentive to our needs. And the wine pairing was excellent! 10/10. Will be going back!!!!!
Dirt Candy is a great little surprise! It's not one of those super healthy restaurants, it's more like a cheat day. The Brussel sprouts tacos were amazing for brunch, the red pepper French toast was ok. The brunch menu was a little small but overall a great experience.
The food is always amazing. I love the squash biscuits.
I loved this place for it’s creativity, service, large spaces between the tables. I would have liked to have had a beer as well but okay
It was spectacular
Overall it was Great! A little long (3.5 hrs) for a 9:45 reservation. We were by far the last table there at 1:15. I eat a lot and it was plenty of food. My wife and I are plant based, our friends are not, so since we all had to order the same thing, we did the vegetarian. I did not feel so good the next morning. We will try again and go for the vegan option next time, with different friends. Maybe just the 5 course next time.
The best vegan place in NYC. I really love this place. It's got a nice chic feel to it and the staff is excellent.
Exceptional food, wait staff knowledgeable about mission. Will definitely return. Has fair wage practice which is commendable.
Table wasn't ready for 30 minutes. 5 course meal that is the smallest of the two packages offered was rushed as we were seated late and staff wanted to leave. My advice is that the restaurant should not offer late seatings.
Interesting, creative food - a nice experience. Room to make the decor more beautiful and the atmosphere more romantic - it's not ideal as a romantic date night restaurant. But I had a nice time.
This is a no-tipping restaurant, where waiters earn a livable wage. It is so nice not to see a check recommending 18-22% tip.
We dined at Dirt Candy on a date night and loved every minute of it. I highly recommend the 7 course option and share it with you dining partner. Each plate brought to our table was a work of art, and pleasing to eat.
Must try if a vegetarian - take someone you love or share it with someone open to new experiences! Experimental, imaginative dishes with warm staff
It was a very nice night out in a restaurant that knows and cares about hospitality .....food and drinks where delicious looking forward to a return soon and sharing the experience with friends and family.
Loved my second visit to Dirt Candy. The menu is inventive and delicious. Wine pairing on point. The wine is sourced from women-owned wineries. Service effective and very friendly. Highly recommended to anyone, even if you don't like vegetables.
The Food was delicious and interesting, but the menu for lunch was really small. The service was not very heartily.
Amazing dinner. Have been a half dozen times over the years and it is always impressive.
Interesting and inventive and a great place for vegetarians seeking a unique meal. Still, VERY expensive for entirely vegetable based foods. Although the plating was phenomenal, this was a one time experience for us.
Amazing dining experience, food exceeds expectations
