Dinner for Two Ratings and Reviews
We've been here for New Year's Eve before and it was fabulous, so we went again. This time it wasn't fabulous at all, perhaps a different chef? Our server didn't introduce herself and welcome us to the restaurant, and then she barely spoke and never smiled. We ordered two glasses of wine and our dinner, which was prix fixe and not worth it. The bread arrived and our appetizers arrived and still no wine. Our server was scarce so we couldn't ask where our wine was until she delivered our dinners - she said "Oh" and came back with our wine - no apology for the wait. I had the blue crab cakes which were very dry, my husband had the french onion soup, which came in a wide bowl with a slab of cheese placed over the soup - not your typical french onion soup with the cheese bubbly and melting over the edges of the bowl. My sister in law had the roasted vegetable salad which she enjoyed. For the main meal I had the "frenched" chicken stuffed with sun dried tomatoes and cheese, over polenta. It was not worth the price - boring chicken, barely any flavor and I didn't find any cheese. My husband had the prime rib, and my sister in law had the crab stuffed trout - both enjoyed their meals. The desserts were delicious, but did not make up for the horrible service and meal that I had. I don't think we will be returning for a holiday meal again.
We had a delicious chateaubriand steak for two prepared expertly at the table. The service was friendly and efficient. There was quiet guitar background music which provided a nice ambiance without interfering with conversation. The dinner was one of the best we had while in Santa Fe.
My wife, daughter, and I sure wish we had picked someplace else to eat for Christmas night. I did a review of their website before making reservation. Seemed like a nice menu. There was no mention of a special menu so we were surprised when we were handed a menu for three course meal for $79 a person. It took forever for someone to wait on us. The table next to us had a waitress who was working very hard and attending to the table very well. Our waitress was mostly MIA. When we finally got our food, my daughters filet was under cooked, my wife’s steak was way over cooked, and mine wasn’t too bad but nothing to right up in this review. All our vegetables were soggy except for the overload of brussels sprouts. My wife’s plate hardly had anything on the plate but the steak. Once we finished our meal, it took forever to get our check. I had to get up and go ask for it. Then the waitress never came back to get the bill. I had to take it to her again. Our special meal really turned into a letdown. I do not recommend.
Planned on nice Christmas dinner and we were so disappointed. The menu was totally different than was advertised on the web. Nothing was not appealing to us but we had a good experience last year so we stayed. The service was excellent but the noise from the heater was loud and distracted from the ambience. I got the curry which ended up being a ton of noodles and a few mushrooms for $79! Husband had the veal and everything on the plate was brown even the potatoes. The Christmas bread is superb! So for $300 we are not happy and will not return.
I really wanted to like this place. We had been looking forward to our Christmas Day dinner there for weeks. The hostess allowed a “local” woman to barge ahead of us, I had to fetch our waitress several times. We watch others seated after us order and be served, in short we were ignored. I will admit I was seething as we left and the staff knew it. You can get mediocre food and much better service and pay less in Santa Fe, so may I suggest you dine elsewhere.
We have been coming here for years for all sorts of special events. We were recently here for Christmas dinner. As always, superb food and service. The filet was perfectly done --- the Hungarian mushroom soup deserved it's recent Souper Bowl win. A great place to enjoy a meal in a relaxed, intimate atmosphere. We are luck to have them in Santa Fe
Set price for a three course meal including desserts. Had five choices for dessert. When it came time to order dessert, only two choices remained. If serving a set menu and you know how many seats are in the resturant, would expect better planning. Maybe only out of one choice.
Christmas Eve dinner was very disappointing ... waited 10 minutes by host stand before being acknowledged. My husband and I were seated at a table for two that was about 6 inches from the next table. My husband introduced us to the couple since we were basically dining together. Set menu for $79 each. French onion soup was luke warm, coconut shrimp were heavily breaded. Next dessert was brought to us ... when we quickly said we hadn’t received our entrees the server acted surprised! About 20 minutes later we were again brought dessert which we again rejected. When our entrees were served, we were both very disappointed in the quality and presentation of the food. New York strip was very salty and tasted like it had been soaked in Worchestershire sauce. Ribeye was full of fat. Pomme frites were room temperature. Soggy vegetables were included. When I told the server my steak was not good, she didn’t know what to say just removed my plate. When we finally got our desserts, we were so annoyed we just wanted to get out of this poorly managed restaurant with below average food. Steer clear! There are many great restaurants in Santa Fe but this is not one of them. What a waste of money on what we expected to be a wonderful evening.
Very disappointing Christmas Eve dinner. Gluten free options on web menu not available. Veal picata was OK but side dishes were overcooked and tiny. Wife could not have appetizer or desert since advertised gluten free options were not available. Parking is all but nonexistent. Wine and beer only.
This used to be one of my go-to places for delicious, creative food in a lovely atmosphere. No longer. Christmas dinner turned out to be disappointing -- primarily because the NY strip I ordered was tough and fatty. I ate half and took the rest home to feed to my dog because it was mostly gristle.
Have eaten here several times but probably won’t be back. Meal was very expensive and filet was disappointing, over cooked and gristly, not like a filet at all. Appetizers were mediocre, Dessert was tasteless. Check was over $200 (before tip) for 2 people, which may be okay if the meal was exceptional which it was not.
We arrived after a long day of shopping/viewing at the winter Indian market - and the service and meal were just what we needed! The item I looked for on the menu was not listed, and the waitress offered to make a substitution on one of the listed items and I had my wish. The mushroom soup that we started with (which had been highly recommended by our driver) was extremely tasty and the Ceaser Salad for two (prepared tableside) was really tempting but we decided to wait for another opportunity (which we will surely find)!
A great dinner for Thanksgiving! We loved the choices - 3 courses were more than filling. The taste and presentation was excellent. And the ambiance was cozy. Eclectic artwork added to the vibe. We would definitely come back the next time we visit Santa Fe.
Second time we had Thanksgiving dinner there. Last year we decided to go it alone for Thanksgiving and Dinner For Two seemed like a good idea. The dinner was so amazing we had to visit again this year. The filet mignon was buttery and smooth. We had to take leftovers home including the pumpkin pie and key lime pie. Third time? Hmmm, tough choice.
