Dinner for Two Ratings and Reviews
This was my second time to eat at Dinner for Two and the restaurant was completely full and very busy. Service was slow and the table side Caesar Salad was terrible. The dressing was brown and tasted way too fishy. Not sure what happened there. Everything took way too long to be served and our waitress rarely came by to see if we needed anything during our long wait. By the time dinner came we weren’t even hungry anymore.
The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. We love that this is a family owned/operated business. They made us feel relaxed, comfortable and highly valued as customers. We are from out of town but already are planning to return next year when we are in Santa Fe.
Dinner for Two is ALWAYS a good choice. The food is consistently delicious. There are plenty of veggie options and the staff is very amenable to making it work for a veggie.
MUST have a table side caesar- so good!
We never have room for dessert but they always share a little ginger snap with you as you leave. nice touch.
In a word: disappointing. We'd eaten at Dinner for Two a year ago and it was great. This time, not so good: the chicken was dry and overcooked; the seafood sampler's salmon was cooked OK but was cold; the coconut shrimp was over-battered. And while the veal piccata sounded good, who serves it with mashed potatoes rather than pasta? When we reported our disappointment back at our hotel, they told us the restaurant had changed hands . . . so a word to the wise: ask your hotel folks, as the restaurant you loved last year might not be so good this year . . .
The usual VERY GOOD, fresh and well prepared food and cozy seating. Live Music. Service was spotty - not up to the 'usual' excellent service. Unusual not to have exemplary service so don't hold this against Dinner For Two. We'll be back as DFT continues to be one of our favourite restaurants in Santa Fe.
Don't dine here on a Sunday if you want it to be a special occasion. The restaurant was extremely busy, because it is the night that they have a fixe prix 3 course menu for $25. The waiters and waitresses were stressed (or so it seemed). Our main meal came out before our soup (45 minute wait). So, the main meal went back and when the soup came, it was not worth the wait. It was thin and watery. Forget the rest of the meal. Do try the happy hour food though. That was good!!
The shrimp and the salmon were both wonderful as appetizers during happy hour at the bar.
For our anniversary we wanted to try a new restaurant. It started out great. The mushroom soup and housemate bread were excellent. It was downhill from there. The one selection was very limited with very little range - it jumped from $30-40 range to $150 range for a "token" high end wine in each category. Our Trout and Veal dishes came with cold mashed potatoes. As soon as we could find our waiter (it took a few minutes) he brought us hot potatoes. The veal was very undercooked and the trout would have been better without the crab stuffing. I would not recommend this restaurant, as there are so many great restaurants here in Santa Fe.
The food ( veal and chicken breast French) was deligous. Also the soup and dessert. Great would be when you could have salad or soup. The waiter was friendly and asked how the meal is. For me price / earning was excellent. Also the bottle French wine was good and not expensive. We recommend this restaurant and will go again.
One of the best meals I've ever had. Ordered all the table side preparations, Caesar Salad, Chateaubriand, and Bananas Foster. All were for two and all were superb. Our table side chef was knowledgeable and talented. None of the choices compared to anything I've had at other restaurants, anywhere in the country. The house made onion bread was a delight, and they make their croutons out of the day old onion bread. The wine selection was good also. Service was impeccable and attentive, without being obtrusive. If I ever get back to Santa Fe, I am definitely making a reservation for this place.
We loved the restaurant, the food, the service and the total ambience. The waiter prepared our dinner table side and explained every step that he was doing, as well as all of the ingredients which he was putting into the dishes. He was very personable, and we totally enjoyed his service. The only problem we had was how to find the place due to the horrible map we had and the fact that the street was closed due to construction work. Otherwise, it was wonderful.
My husband and I had dinner here during a recent visit to Santa Fe. The food and service were awesome. On Sunday nights, they have a special - three course dinner for $25 , which is a great deal! I had the fried chicken stuffed with green chili and cheese and it was wonderful. My husband had a steak, and he said it was excellent.
The server Michael was excellent. The price was acceptable, but the steaks were undercooked (rare filet ordered medium well). The food was good after cooking further, we will go again.
The place was dark, no open windows, and a little dated ambiance. Having said that, it was spotless & the people were very friendly.
Unless you are a local, you may not spot the place as the signage is very subtle.
There is no cocktail list, just beer & wine, so be aware of this before making your reservation.
