Dinner for Two
"Excellent Food and Service at a Reasonable Price"
Everything was good except for the waiting time to get the food...
We will return often, but they NEED Bacardi Silver rum for us to return to just the bar
Went to this restaurant on our last nigh in Santa Fe. It was great!! Food was exceptional and so was the
service. did not have the bottle of wine that I wanted, but discounted a more expensive one to the same price. Great discovery on the wine and restaurant!! Will definitely try both each again
Good news and bad news. First the good news, the food was excellent. Some of the best in Santa Fe, especially if you are looking for a great steak. An interesting menu, impressive wine list and fabulous cocktails. The bad news, service is either excellent or woefully inadequate. Unfortunately for us ours was exceptionally spotty. Two of us received and finished our appetizers before the other were served! We had to ask for bread three times before it was brought to our table. One person at our table received and half finished her entre before the others were served. To take this from a three star experience to a five star experience the owners need to better train the waiters.
Very good romantic dinner. It's kind of a "hole in the wall" restaurant but the delicious food and exceptional service make you forget that quickly. Definitely should be on everyone's list don't miss the tableside Caesar salad, the ribs appetizer and the Chateaubriane (SP?). We would fly back for this dinner alone!
Good neighborhood restaurant a few blocks off the main tourist area. We share appetizers - the crab cakes were the best.
Excellent dinner and drinks. Exterior of building looks pretty nondescript and interior looks a bit dated, but food and drink quality more than made up for aesthetics. Go for their Margarita Monday special and splurge on the "Gold" margarita for premium tequila and cognac instead of triple sec. So smooth and delicious! Filet Mignon was excellent and fried chicken stuffed with cheese and green chiles was a big hit. We celebrated a birthday and hostess chose us a very quiet and romantic table. Favorite meal of our visit to Santa Fe.
The oyster mushroom soup was divine - silky and decadent. The table side Caesar salad is exceptional. The entrees were great, but the side dishes are lackluster. For the price, I’d like to see more attention to them - elevate them some. The crab cakes are a bit sweet for my taste, and I feel like they were a bit lacking in crab, but they are good. The salmon was not as flavorful as I had hoped and could have used a sauce, but it was not dry. The cocktails were delicious, but a bit overpriced. The service was super, though I was never asked about our special occasion even though I indicated it during the reservation process. This is one of our favorite restaurants, so we will be back.
Service was excellent- staff was knowledgeable about their menu and the ingredients.
Very nice décor and the live music provided was at a level that you could still have a conversation at your table.
This is one of Santa Fe's gems. The dining room is comfortable. Cocktails, wine, and food are high quality and the prices are very reasonable. Andrea was out server. It was her first night. She was terrific! Not a false step. We especially recommend the Sunday evening $25 three-course special.
Great Caesar salad, chateaubriand, and bananas Foster. We like this place a lot. Good wines also!
Food was undistinguished. Had crab stuffed trout and could not tell the stuffing from the trout. My wife had the veal marsala, but we had identical sides. And the marsala sauce was thin and light on the marsala. The restaurant features table-side preparation on Caesar salad and bananas Foster. However, service can suffer if your server is doing the preparation for another table. The restaurant features steaks and seafood. However, most of its steaks come with toppings and/or sauces. What's to hide?
D42 is always an excellent choice. Happy hour offerings are tasty and a good value.
As locals, this is our go-to restaurant for a nice dinner, a table side caesar (a must- recommend level 3 on garlic), fabulous ambiance, quiet thorough service that anticipates needs, and great options for vegetarians!
We have written reviews before but each time, it warrants another. My husband loves the Thursday night prime rib special. Its fabulous meat, well-prepared and makes his mouth water at the thought. He is also a huge fan of the lamb.
I am crazy about their award-winning truffle mushroom soup.
Also, a very romantic setting.
I DINED AT THIS FACILITY TWICE DURING OUT STAY in Sante Fe, and both times we enjoyed a superior meal. On the first occasion was margarita night, half price, and the drink was excellent. I had a ribeye which was quite good and shared the tableside Caerer salad which was huge. The dessert was excellent and the coffee strong. The service was prompt and friendly and the price quite reasonable for the quality and quantity provided. On the second visit was prime rib night, and I enjoyed the dish immensely and could only eat one half of it as it was so large, yet reasonably priced as well. Again the beverages and service were superior. We definitely will return on our next trip to Sante Fe in 3 months,
We had a reservation for 6:00PM and arrived right at 6. We waited about 10 minutes by the wait to be seated sign. I asked the person by the check-in stand if we should just find a seat on our own. He was looking down at the stand writing something and without even looking up; said, "we will be right with you". There were only about 10 customers yet the 2 people working the door area seemed to be doing a lot of walking around...doing nothing. After 10 minutes, one of the walkers (looked & and acted like the shift manager), said to have a seat and they would be right with us. After 10 more minutes, he came back and said can I help you. I said yes, we had reservations for 6:00PM. He then took us to a table and proceeded to tell us that we would have to pay cash or check...their credit card system wasn't working. Never once did he seem apologetic or even concerned about our wait or not being able to use a credit card. I almost had the feeling that we were a bother to him. The waiter was super as well as the food!
1. Upon ordering, the waiter tried very hard to talk my wife out of her order and upcharge her to another dish. I've never experienced something quite so desperate and offputting at a fine dining restaurant. 2. The appetizer portion wasnt just tastefully small, but an insult to people with bad vision. 3. My cut of steak was bad. 4. There are a lot of employees who spent most of our meal bothering us, including scraping crumbs into a little silver dish.
We both had the chipolte prawns and soft shell crab. And, the Dragon Cake. All were delicious.
We sat at the bar so we could laugh with Andy, the owner. A good time and great food!
Great meal and experience. Highly recommend.
Don't let the outside fool you. I have noticed that most of the restraunts in Santa Fe are not the most appealing from the outside but the food inside is what counts and it was outstanding.
Enjoyed the steak but all other food was mediocre. Appreciated the bar tenders efforts in making us the perfect margarita, which was a success!! (But not very proportionate for the price)
Based on are overall experience, we wouldn’t go back.
I was very disappointed with the service. The tables were full to capacity and they didn't have enough servers. Everything from taking our order, not having utensils, no steak knife, getting dessert, took for ever. I felt bad for the female waitress that had to help us, even that it wasn't her table; she was very nice, but we could see how stressed out she was. The food was not the best either. My husband and I used to go to this restaurant when we lived in SF, and it was one of our favorites. I hope this is not an everyday occurrence, and that they're still provide good food and service.
Horrible! They were understaffed which I know is sometimes not controllable. When we did get our table our waiter never ask for a drink order. When he did arrive at the table he said “ready to order?” I had a couple of questions about the menu which really seemed to irritate him. After we received our soup I stopped another waitress and asked if we could order wine she took our order but the wine never arrived. We had to ask twice for water refills. Our waiter finally came by and asked if we wanted wine I said I had ordered with the other gal. Then about 10 minutes later he came back and said what kind of wine do you want? Soooo we get the wine finally. My son ordered the scallop fettuccine on the waiters recommendation. About 1/2 way through he said I don’t feel so well. He went outside and got really sick. He came back in the door and our waiter gave him some paper towel. My husband stayed outside with him and I went to pay. We did not get dessert nor were we offered to take it to go. When I was checking out the waiter says “first time in Santa Fe”? I said no first time at your Resturant. I think the scallops made him sick. He did not offer to adjust the ticket and after I left I noticed he charged us full price for a salad that was subbed for the soup instead of the $4
He said it would be. I have worked in the Resturant industry and in customer service and I totally understand being short handed but you should never be short and curt with the guests. I think about 5 sets of couples walked out before getting seated. I hope the do better when staffed. So disappointed we are foodies and were looking forward to this dinner. I guess when in Santa Fe eat Mexican food!!
I went to Dinner for Two due to a recommendation of my neighbors. It is a good location, close to the Santa Fe Plaza and a good-sized, comfortable dining space. My food options were varied and I chose the vegetarian taco as a starter and the "sampler" as a main course. The taco had many different ingredients and was moderately spicy. The "sampler" contained crab cakes, shrimp and salmon along with a slaw. All were very good. The one part not great about my experience was a waiter, seemingly new, who was somewhat disorganized. The other servers were trying to help him, so there seem to be some concern about his efficiency.
Great food but routinely slow service when ordering the table-side Caesar salad or Chateaubriand. But worth the wait.
You missed the mark last night with us and I think it was just unfortunate circumstances. One of the reasons I chose Table for Two was because of outstanding service which is where it fell short on 5/25/2019.
We had reservations at 6 and were one of the first tables. From the start, I thought service was a bit slow and inattentive but as the night went on and the restaurant filled up it only got worse. Our food was terrific but our waiter was distracted and was flying around. It was obvious to us that you were very short staffed, which I know can’t be controlled.
My biggest complaint was when our waiter finally came over to make our table side Bananas Foster he thanked us for our patience and admitted they were short staffed. That’s where it should have ended but he continued to complain about his co-workers and how he was the only one who knows how to do anything or is attentive to the patrons - on and on and on. Which was sort of ironic as I didn’t see that in him at all-or it was just spread so thin.
Ah well, a bad night in the restaurant world but it could’ve been handled better in my opinion.
This is one of our favorite Santa Fe restaurants. The menu has a nice variety, food is always great and a good value. The only minor issue this time was the waiter got a bit distracted as more customers came in.
My wife loved her crab stuffed trout. My NY strip steak, though cooked just how I asked, was mainly a tough steak, and not overly flavorful. The owner was defensive about it when he asked how everything was and I told him. A bourbon on the rocks was way overpriced ($20 for Angel's Envy, which is not that expensive of a bourbon) and a very exact pour. My wife's martini was good and reasonably priced.
Dinner 42 is one of my favorite restaurants and near where I live.
Fun space on Guadalupe near the Plaza. Our dinner was delicious.
Great local hangout — tableside Ceasar is incredible, truffle mushroom soup is spectacular and all entries, including Thursday night prime rib. Are cooked to perfection. However, the soft shell crabs Chef Andy prepared last Friday were the biggest, most flavorful as crabs I’ve ever tasted.
We were first seated where the noise was quite loud. We were moved to a site where it was quite pleasant.
The recommended mushroom soup was so salty I couldn’t eat. The ribeye steak I was served had so much gristle that I left more on the plate than what I was able to eat. My wife’s veal Marsala had no Marsala flavor at all. Very disappointing for such a highly recommended restaurant
Had a delightful Mother’s Day dinner. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. The Filet Mignon just melted in your mouth. The host and staff make everyone feel welcome. We will definitely be returning.
Their steaks (NY Strip & Rib Eye) with side dishes were all excellent.
It was my Birthday celebration with great friends. Started with drinks and appetizers at the bar and then dinner in the dining room. Perfect evening❤️
We had a nice experience. Our server was awesome and the food was delicious. The only thing is the portion sizes compared to the prices don't match. We had the calamari/shrimp appetizer and there were very few calamari and the pieces that were there were so small and thin you had to really dig around to find them. My husband's dinner portion was decent. I had the sampler and while the small portions were enough to satisfy my hunger, I felt for the price, the portions should have been larger.
Appetizer was delivered after entrees arrived and you got 3 medium sized coconut shrimp for $10. Our waiter was very personable and it is a nice setting for a quiet meal. The Filet Oscar is incredible but pricey ($56) and the bananas foster for desert was top notch. If all the appetizers are similar to the coconut shrimp, I'd recommend just skipping them and going with drinks, entrees, & desert. Otherwise, this is a nice place for its namesake, Dinner for Two.
Lovely corner table for our Anniversary.
Quiet Tuesday evening.
Rasheed orchestrated our meal including tableside Chateaubriand.
Cocktails and wine both excellent.
