SHOUT OUT Spent a wonderful evenings with two very good friends celebrating their wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to William’s Pine Gables in Eagle River, a first for sll four of us we and had one of the best meals up here since North Star Lodge closed. Service was excellent and all entries were exceptional. They pretty much want you make a reservation and they keep their numbers at a level that is not crowded and they are able to assure a fine dinning experience. Highly recommended. We will go back.

Food was great. The main dining room was noisy as they were so busy because it was graduation day. My husband said his brisket was the best he’s had in Madison (and he’s tried everywhere!) unexpectedly delicious.

Sara B, the Server, is a gem. She makes dining an enjoyable and relaxing event. The food is delicious. My husband and I ate lunch for the first time. The Cacio e Pepe was perfectly prepared and delicious. The Spaghetti and Meatballs were delicious. The salad greens are fresh, and the dressing is perfectly seasoned and flavorful. The decor is lovely and engaging, with photos of family. The music enhances the dining experience. D'Vino's is an excellent choice for a pleasurable dining experience.

Food was very good, but a little too much batter on the fish tacos. The only drawback was our server, a bored young man who didn’t waste any personality on us, and was not very attentive. Then the appetizers came out at same time as the entree. Not ideal.

A locally owned Madison favorite, Otto's is set in a beautifully restored 1870s stone farm house with two dining levels. First time at Sultan for a “lab night”. The night is a $35 fixed price surprise menu. We knew what we were signing up for, so maybe we aren’t experimental people. First, the great: the service was impeccable, the food was good (except the grilled cheese), and there were several mocktail options for a pregnant lady! The naan was great. The not so great: it was a six course meal, naan, three soups, a rice pudding, and a bread pudding. The emphasis on strict soup (vegetarian) felt like a left down for my husband (and me late at night when fullness from the liquid had moved on and I was hungry). They were filling, but I definitely needed a couple of snacks at midnight and 2 am to sleep. The bad: the grilled cheese that came with the tomato soup was actively burnt. While I try to be understanding and don’t want to send food back. The rice pudding had far too much coriander for my husband or I to take more than a bite or two. I don’t often use the word overpowering because I enjoy strong foods, this was simply overpowering. Overall, I wouldn’t go back on a lab night without knowing what was on the menu, but it was a decent experimental date night and we will see what the future holds. The food - with the exception of the burnt grilled cheese, and overpowering rice pudding was tasty and good, but I’d have loved to see some more protein, even if it was lentils or beans to help with fiber and blood sugar levels.
