We know the word "fusion" has been wielded about to justify everything from Hula Burgers to Mexican lasagna. But the East-meets-South brand of fusion happening at Poor Calvin's? It's creative; it's innovative; and it's probably unlike anything you've tasted in the ATL. After working in kitchens around the world, Calvin Phan wanted to shake things up a little. And so, into the mac 'n cheese, the Thai spices went. Now, Calvin's giving Southern staples, like sea bass and fried chicken, a decidedly creative Asian-inspired twist (and a nip of spice, too). He has created innovative dishes, approached in much the same way, leave the hands of Calvin Phan day in and day out. His dedication and attention to detail are evident in each dish and dessert. You won't be disappointed.

The experience consists of a series of small plates and a progression of seasonal nigiri. We are inspired by the Japanese concept of ichi-go ichi-e, 一期一会, or “one time, one meeting. From the first welcome from Katie to the last bite of food this was a dinner to remember.. My expectations were high and we weren’t disappointed. It was more than a meal, it was an encompassing experience with each bite of food thoughtfully prepared by the chef. Kudos to Som for elevating our experience even further. Well worth saving as a fabulous 70th birthday celebration

We took a chance on something new, and I’m so glad we did. From the stylish decor to the perfectly mixed drinks, every detail exceeded our expectations. The food was outstanding, the service even better, and the whole vibe made it feel like we’d discovered a best-kept secret. We’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu—this place is a true hidden gem!
