We love Millies. Our neighborhood gem. Great vibe, feels like a vacation. Everything on the menu (and at the bar) is delicious. The staff though! Everybody is super cool, nice, with a gritty, fun attitude. We always have a great experience at Millies.
Hanks Oyster Bar is a local gem, perfect for any occasion all year long. This particular visit my wife and I had both gotten out of work early, and stopped for a late lunch and drinks. Hanks has one of the only good crab cake sandwiches in DC, and they had some excellent beer options. Our service was great, and we had a really fun time.

Loved it. We ate here before a show, and I really must say the food and service was outstanding. We started with cocktails, and the house Manhattan (with sidecar!) was great. My wife ordered a starter caesar, and it was extremely fancy and worth getting. I ordered a the filet, which I was weary of because I usually shun steaks with any type of accompanying sauce—but their interpretation was spot on. After this steak, I would confidently order a Rib-Eye or the Porter-for-2 next time. Our server was perfect; just the right amount of everything. My only ding would be the venue; it's definitely a dated, 80's-era interior. If your companion isn't a snob, they prob wouldn't notice. And the food was worth it for us.

Phenomenal, just the right amount of everything. 5-star food in a casual setting. Small plates, big exciting flavors with lots of surprises. Amazing staff; we always have a great time here.
Perfect for what we needed; a busy upscale spot for a steak & booze lunch with my old friends during the holidays.
Proper bar and cocktails. Steaks were prepared perfectly. And the staff was great. Great touch: each steak came with bone marrow—goes a long way.

Rosa Mexicana is a great spot for upscale mexican food in Chinatown. We like to take our kids here when we're in Chinatown. The food is outstanding; some of the better mexican-themed food we've had. Not trendy or experimental; just the classics you know with quality ingredients and good execution.

Early reservation with our two toddlers. We sat outside, enjoyed a martini had a really nice meal. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and provided great recommendations - even on which side portion of basic pasta we should get for the kids.
Fun bar. Surprisingly good food. No hipsters. I'd definitely recommend.
An icon of DC. I haven't been to many places that capture the food and cultural relevance quick like Marvin. Everyone you meet loves it regardless of where they're from. You can eat a nice meal downstairs, or enjoy a great bar scene upstairs.

Good. We're frequent diners here, especially the back taco bar. We're excited La Urbana started mixing up their menu. New entres and starters.
Really fun place to go with your friends for dinner and drinks. Loud. Good food. A few TVs. Upscale enough to wear leather shoes if you want. Fun things to look at. Great bar. A legit menu.

We like boulevard because it's consistently great, in all aspects: food, service, and the ambiance. It's not the hottest new place, but it has a sense of history and gives a settling feeling of comfort when you visit. When I look at the open kitchen, I like to think about how many restaurant entrepreneurs and chefs probably once worked the line here.
My only criticism is I'd like to see more menu specials, or some interesting new chances taken with food & beverage to add some energy to the experience.

We had been here before, but honestly I forgot how good A-16 is. Everything was just spectacular.
The menu at A-16 feels contemporary, and they have a broad range of options that are all very different.
We started with the melon salad. Completely caught me off guard. A must order.
I usually don't order pasta out; most Italian pastas seem repetitive and too subtle. The pasta I had at a-16 was fantastic.
We shared a pizza too, and it was really good. Crust was flawless.
The staff picked 2 bottles of wine for us (after a brief discussion about what we like), and we loved each one.
The staff showed us a great time, and we'll definitely return.

Loved our meal, and the venue was great.
We liked the concept of a sub-70 dollar prefixe. Not cheap by any means, but reasonable for 4 courses. Each course was above average, and something new.
Service and staff was extremely professional.

We really enjoyed Rich Table. Every aspect of our experience made us want to come back.
Rich Table is definitely a restaurant that experiments with unique dishes. They do this with very familiar ingredients, so we never felt out of our comfort zone. Dishes included black-eyed peas, cantaloupe, tomatoes, pork chop, and potato chips. For me, it felt like the ingredients I grew up with in Indiana, but crafted into courses with that I never would have thought of.
The beverage service was outstanding. The staff was extremely professional and fun to dine with.
You can go to Rich Table and spend a lot or a little. A range of price options for food and beverage. We treated ourselves, but it's nice knowing they server 6$ beers too.

Epic Roasthouse is not a quality restaurant for dining. They occupy a very scenic piece of land and have a fairly decent interior, but every aspect of their dining experience is unsatisfactory – especially compared to other San Francisco establishments at this price point.
We've had (2) extremely negative visits to Epic Roasthouse. Each with multiple awkward breakdowns in service and food quality (i.e. returned food, poor preparation, neglected table service, etc).
If you're looking last-minute, you could get by with a bar seat and a burger. I would strongly advise against a big spend here.
Right on Polk street, and really busy. Although not inaccessible; we were able to grab a spot at the community table. 1760 serves small plates (tapas), which are usually a pain - expensive, not filling. But 1760 does it right. Their plates are robust, yet extremely well executed. My wife and I both loved it, which is rare for us. The The Shikate (spelling) Peppers and the Duck Burger were unbelievable! The bar was proper. Unbelievable specialty & old-fashioned cocktails.

Iconic SF. Great food and beverage, and the venue is spectacular.
On this particular visit, our entrees were spectacular. We shared the Fried Chicken and the Flank Steak. Each were delicious and represented a unique approach to the classic dishes. The entrees were so good, they eclipsed the mediocre appetizer we started with. It was the Squash Tempura, that came out heavily-battered and fried, versus the light and crisp tempura you would expect from asian cuisine.
Service was fantastic.

The venue and service can't be beat. Cafe Organic is a great spot to get a really personable and great experience on the Embarcadero. Despite the location, it doesn't feel as touristy as the usual suspects in the area.
Back to the venue, it's one of my favorites in SF. Indoors or out. Just watch out for expensive parking in the area.
The food here has been hit or miss for me. The quality of the ingredients is always impeccable. But sometimes dishes can suffer from the being too health-tasting, which for me translates to bland.
Service is outstanding. Very cool staff. Friendly. Lot of character.
Final thoughts: you'll love it.

I'm really Into Urbana. In my humble opinion they've really cracked the code on upscale Mexican food.
The space is beautiful, and they have a nice bar. They also have a fun overflow area with cheap beers to drink while you wait that has a garage door setup for when it's warm. Obviously cheap beer isn't an attraction for most sf people, it's a nice touch when you have to wait for 45 minutes.
The food is excellent. They have mains as well as small plates, which is great. Good variety too. I've had a few misses, but everything is a 3-star minimum. Their ceviche is unratable (that good) as well as the esquites (side of corn).
And finally the cocktails. Really well done. Great margarita, but my favorite was the mescal Old Fashioned.

We really enjoyed our brunch / lunch here. The menu has fresh options (along with basics like a burger), and the service is outstanding. While Zuni is in a not-amazing part of Market Street, the restaurant has an unmistakeable charm and is well worth a detour.

This is a very successful spot in Southpark. Which is why I was extremely disappointed when my food came out in 3 minutes. My only conclusion is that the meat was precooked. My lunch companion didn't finish her meal, so I can only assume he's was just as unsatisfying.
Other than that, we got great service, and a nice table.

I had a work lunch, and ordered a beer and had the salmon salad. It was probably one of the best salads I've had - the salmon was perfect. They had some great beers too. The one I had was a British ipa I hadn't had before.

We love it here. It's a fun spot in Lower Haight to get some wine, with some cured meat and cheese. We usually make an evening out of it. It's exceptional.

We've been here a few times (all great), but this time we opted for the Tasting Menu.
There were four of us. To get the Tasting Menu, the entire table must order and we happily did, as it was a special occasion with good friends. The food was excellent, and well paired with great wines.. There were two different options per course, so each couple got 2 completely different courses. Nice touch. We were completely impressed at every step.
The staff at Redd is exceptional. Good fun.

Absolutely outstanding on every level. The atmosphere is amazing - it's a dark jazz bar that feels like a scene from the 40s. After 6 or so they have live piano. This was our second trip to Brix. This experience was absolutely outstanding. They have lots of great tables, and the energy was just right. Brix is an extremely professional and established resturaunt.
I ordered the Ribeye, and was absolutely impressed. My wife had the chicken, and it was far beyond "safe chicken dish". Our server picked out a fantastic wine that paired well with both dishes - no easy task based on our entree picks. We also had the beets, which were amazing.

1) Absent service.
2) High quality of food.
3) Beautiful design & environment.
We arrived early for our reservation, and went to the bar for a drink while we waited for our table. The barmen took forever (even for a premium cocktail bar) despite not being overly crowded — we never got drinks before before our hostess took us to our table. Once seated, it took several minutes for our server to even greet us. All told it took a half-hour to get a drink.
The server knew the menu well, but we rarely saw him. The quality of food and beverage was great. My wife's non-abv cocktail was great, and my rum drink was excellent. They poured great wines by the glass.
I really wanted the experience to be amazing, but left very disappointed.

Great for last-minute low-cost food (like a hamburger) in a nice setting. Or get reservations for when you really want some serious comfort like Fried Chicken or some Gumbo. That said, we like Boxing Room in the winter for soup and hearty stuff.
One thing we don't like is their shrimp come with heads on. Most people (my wife included) don't like to behead shrimp at the dinner table. Seems to be trying too hard to be authentic.

Very hit or miss for us, in terms of food. The service is always outstanding, and the spirits are flawless.
On our previous visit, we did the tasting menu. Excellent. This most recent visit was only so-so. The tasting menu that night seemed to have the best items that night. The la carte menu had some great items too, and I chose the Lamb. It was tasty, but fickle with small portions. It was good, but for $40 I expected something more substantial outstanding (which can definitely be had at Jardiniere).
My wife got the house Short Ribs (it's off the menu, but avail to anyone who asks). This was amazing. The type of meal you get as your last meal on death row.
Also, it was my wife's birthday, and they gave us a great dessert.

Loved it. A modern, yet warm and friendly spot in downtown Yountville. The food is asian inspired, and everything we had was excellent. We sat at the bar, and got great service. The bartender gave me healthy tastes of their wine before selecting, and even made my wife a great non-alcoholic cocktail (we're expecting in Dec). Favorite part: my NY strip came with a short rib topped with bone marrow - unbelievable!

My wife and I were extremely disappointed. Brix is a large restaurant with a beautiful estate right on the highway (29). This would be a good place for a wedding or large outdoor event, but it's not a great spot an intimate food experience. The overall impession is that Brix is large, high-volume tourist trap that survives on non-repeat business. We honestly felt like we were on a rapid schedule the second we walked in the door. The staff was brash, and not very professional. Our food was below average.
This was the worst part: our food came out in less than 10 minutes! There was a wedding that night, so I'm not sure if we got premade wedding food or if they regularly start popular items in advance, but it really ruined our experience.

Loved it. Menu was varied, and everything we had was excellent. One of our favorite french restaurants in sf. The dishes capture all the subtle complexities that make us enjoy French food so much.
The staff was excellent; they were knowledgeable about the menu and gave us great suggestions. Our server paired wines perfectly, and made some great picks for brown liquor and cocktails.
The atmosphere is dark, decadent, and calming even though it is often packed because it's right next to the big show venues. Our favorite time to go is right at 8, when they clear out for the symphony.

My wife and I love Florio; it's one our favorite spots on Filmore. We love it because of it's perfect for a variety of occasions. The food is impressive enough to take special guests, and they also have some less expensive items for mid-week dinner escapes. Florio is also our go-to for food before seeing movies at Kabuki theater right around the corner within walking distance. They run a very respectable bar too, if you like drinking the ways it's supposed to be - stiff, traditional cocktails.

LoLo is perfect if you want to you want modern Mexican cuisine. Each dish is very unique, and even traditional items have a new twist. Items are tapas-style, but the portions are very good. The wine list is small, but each has a pairing purpose within the menu. We haven't had dessert yet, but we look forward to the opportunity.
The ambiance is great. It doesn't scream great food, or a fun time - but both can be found at LoLo. The staff ensures you have a good time. If you doubt, ask the bartender to help decide who in your party should pay the check....
Go. Enjoy. Ask questions and trust the waitstaff.

It's a famous destination in San Francisco, and some of the better cuisine in Hayes Valley. The food is quite overpriced compared to other restaurants of this quality, but definitely worth checking out. Absinthe serves the staples very well, and stays within a fairly conservative range of dishes. I would go more often if they had less expensive options; even their hamburger runs $18.
