DiFabio's Casapela Ratings and Reviews
We were in Louisville for a few days and stopped in with our kids for dinner. After reading positive reviews online, we were hoping for some good pasta. However, what we found was that the pasta was pre-cooked and probably just heated up in boiling water before being served a bit too soft, and the sauces were just mediocre at best. I returned my first dish of pasta because the pasta was overcooked. I asked for it to be al dente, and a few minutes later they came back with a new dish, equally overcooked. Maybe that is how they or their repeat customers like it (which is fine if they do, it's just not how we are used to eating pasta). The cheesy garlic bread was the type you would get at a pizza place - heaps of melted mozzarella cheese. There are very few salad choices (only 2 to be exact), and not a lot for vegans except for overcooked pasta with marinara sauce. The crusty Italian bread was good, and the waitress was kind and attentive. The room in the back (and the main room) was very cold in the freezing temps of the winter. We all ate with our coats on.
We enjoyed our recent Saturday dinner at DiFabio's. We made a reservation a few days ahead, and were seated in the back dining room (not the main dining space). Even though the room was small, only about 4-5 tables, it was loud when other diners were speaking enthusiastically to each other, making it hard to hear my husband across the table. Service was very good, our server checked on us frequently. The kitchen was a bit slow, it took quite a while to get our entrees. But we were pleased with our food when it came, and would return.
We were in a room with only 5 two top tables. We waited a fair amount of time to have our waitress greet us, that was only after she went to all of the other tables (who were already seated and had ordered) and we motioned her over asking if she was our server. She responded she was but not in a very friendly manner and while gritting her teeth asked us if we wanted something to drink. The service got better, but it was my first time there and it had been years since my companion had gone. I asked why it had been so long, he responded saying it wasn't anything to write home about. There are plenty of other Italian restaurants who do it better, friendlier, and even though I tip 20% (which she got from me) I don't need to go back.
Unfortunately we were not seated in the main dining room. Our accommodations were not very comfortable. Service was very slow. Our waiter was not very attentive. I would insist on table in main dining room next time. My leftovers were better than the original meal. I have had two other experiences here that were much better. I was embarrassed for the new folks I brought this night.
As always, a fantastic meal! My husband and I love this place for a cozy date night. The salads and pastas were fantastic. The only negative was the canoli - it was too small and too fried. We didn't even finish because it we were so disappointed by it. Canoli should be a large tube with lots of thick yummy filling! We will continue to go back though, great place!
I absolutely loved the food at DiFabio's. My veal Marsala was rich and wonderful. The bruschetta was amazing and the tiramisu should not be missed. While the food is excellent, please know the noise level is very high making it difficult to hear the person across your table.
Fabulous dinner date! We sat on the porch outside and had both of their specials. The dinner special was a shrimp tortellini. It was Devine. Everything was priced reasonably even out good $20 bottle of wine. Highly recommend this place. We will definitely go back.
I LOVE this restaurant!! So much to choose from and the menu is so enticing.. We have eaten here on a few very special occasions and it never disappoints! This last time, our party of four sat outside on the porch and it was perfect: the weather, the service, the food and the company. Do not leave Louisville without trying DiFabio's!!
