Dexter's - Winter Park Ratings and Reviews
Everything was wonderful except for the time it took for our food to arrive. We were there on a work day but perhaps they didn't think we were on a time constraint. It took over 20 mins from the time we placed our order for our food to arrive and they were not busy at 1:30 pm. Just make sure you have time to enjoy the meal. If you're on an hour work lunch, go somewhere else that can provide faster service.
Great variety of well prepared menu options. Nice atmosphere with available artwork on the walls for sale. Located in newly developed Hannibal Square a few blocks off Park Ave.
The Garlic Fries have a bit more garlic than I personally prefer and I will substitute a salad for them on the next trip. Will definitely return.
Even though we made early reservations, our seats were HORRIBLE. It was in a corner near a register and a stack of baby chairs. If I went there again I would make sure not to have the same seats. If I were Dexter's I'd give up those few extra seats.
The service was very good and some food was better than others. I used to go to Dexter's' a lot, we even named our dog Dexter. I need to go back again and give it another chance.
Lunch service was OK, but the food was not. Plus it took a long time to get the order which was blamed on a big take out order -- this, when there were NO other customers in the place. The food was actually rather horrible. Not even up to diner, or fast food, standards. And after all of this, they didnt check me in so I'd get my points, causing a week of frustration trying to get credited.
Took my friend to lunch and my recommendation came through for me.
This restaurant delivered on all levels. My guest was amazed by the food quality and quantity. He finished everything on the plate, something unexpected for him.
We had a very enjoyable lunch.
Thanks to the quality and consistency of this fun little casual restaurant.
Good food. although the menu didn't mention that the crab cakes were going to be quite spicy. We had to send them back and get something else. The waiter brought out my burger and said he wanted to get it to me while it was still hot instead of waiting for the sweet potato fries to be ready. Not sure why the kitchen couldn't get them both hot and ready at the same time. I don't particularly like to eat my hamburger and then my fries.
The waiter was responsive and I have no complaints about him.
Was a special date and I had made the reservations describing what table I would like and that it was a special occasion! All our dates are:) But, we walked in and the hostess immediately greeted us and took us to the PERFECT table. Great service and food plus the Happy Hour bar prices make Dexter's one of the wonderful places to go in Winter Park!
We went for a birthday dinner on July 3. This was a Monday 1/2 off everything on menu day. Food was adequate - not great. One fish was adequate - other dish was dry (same fish) Monday's are definitely a good value in terms of quantity - I wouldn't recommend going to Dexters for a special occasion. Now diners may think that since the bill is half they only need tip on half..but seriously folks if you getting a good deal - tip the wait staff for what would have been full amount! And dexters doesn't hesitate to remind you of this - which is fine. As a final - they did not offer any birthday dessert for our celeratee - thought that was a huge miss. So no, I live close and have tried this locale 3 times. Too many better choices for food in winter park!
I made reservations on line for 9:00 pm. I arrived early (8:20 pm) and they told me I will be seated in about 10 minutes. After asking them 2 times when will I have a table I left with my date at 9:40 pm to go sit at another place and eat. I was not happy with the service and will hesitate at going back. I don't feel I was treated right!!!
Normally you can't go wrong with Dexter's, but tonight was an exception. Service started out great, but went wrong after our server went home for the night. Maybe they aren't used to having a live band, but when we moved closer, it seemed as if everyone was fine for the night. Servers were just milling around, were on their phones & were ignoring the remaining patrons. We were there celebrating my 50th & had to send one of our party to the bar in order to get service. Very unprofessional!
Another minor issue was that the appetizer list was heavy on seafood based options. Normally this isn't an issue, but one of our party had a seafood allergy. They ordered the street tacos & while good, were light on filling & pricey for the serving size.
This was like my fifth trip to Dexter's in the past two years and I have to say, it was pretty disappointing. I ordered the dinner salad and told them that I was gluten-free, but it came with a stack of pita bread on the top. They were quick to solve this problem, but when they brought my new salad, the black olives we're starting to turn bad. I ordered the dirty Dexter martini which was supposed to have jumbo olives stuffed with blue cheese and instead they were regular green olives stuffed with nothing. I hope that it was just an off day and not a new trend.
