Devon Seafood Grill - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Our waitress was so amazing. The place wasn't very busy which kind of had us worried but once we got the bread and our soups we were sold. Since they bring in fresh fish and meat everyday they were out of what my husband ordered but he changed his order and it was just as good. I would highly recommed Devon's to anyone!
Devon Seafood never dissapoints. Their staff is attentive, courteous and prompt. The first floor offers a vibrant bar scene and their dining area is quiet and intimate. Their food is delicious! We ordered the scallops with lemon asparagus risotto and the Baramundi with whipped potatoes and roasted cauliflower, onion jam and bacon. We definitely recommend Devon Seafood and Grill for date nights, get togethers or business meetings.
We were seated immediately upon arriving on time for our reservation. However, we were in a banquet style room, rather than the main dining room. We were also given a long, narrow table in the corner, but requested a round table in a more acceptable location. The request was honored with the caveat that the service might not be as timely. Food was very good, and the waitress was friendly and efficient.
The heat had gone off, broken, when we octogenarians arrived. Probably 65 degrees in the lower level by 7:45 when we left. Perhaps this explains absence of other diners and our grateful experience of very conversation friendly environment. Server brought soup (excellent lobster bisque) immediately after bringing our drinks, which was strange. She gave good advice about sharing the mixed seafood entree, also excellent. Flan ordinary, but we ate all of it--also shared.
Very disappointing. We usually go to Devon Chicago for special occasions. Service and food are always wonderful. Unfortunately that was not the case this time. Our server was not good. He was disorganized and frazzled and rushed us. Didn’t tell us his name, didn’t bring us bread or water. When asked he brought them out and said bread was “still in the oven” but biscuits were not warm. He interrupted our conversation more than once instead of waiting politely for us to finish a sentence. Forgot drink orders. Also food quality was not up to par. Temps on steaks were way under (medium was barely rare, well was barely medium). It was really disappointing and the server really missed out on a serious holiday tip (yes he was tipped, 15% - bare minimum. It would have been much higher with decent service). Will probably not bother going back. May try Oakbrook location.
The heat was out on the first floor so we couldn't sit upstairs. I enjoyed my fried oysters (despite the fact that I wasn't told there were spicy peppers) and my order of mashed potatoes took two tries. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her meal of scallops. We'll be back as the waiter was very helpful with the problems.
We were looking for a restaurant close to the theatre. We made a great choice. The mini crab rolls and calamari for appetizers. They have jalapenos and onions with the calamari FYI they were fried perfectly and served with 2 sauces both were good. We did the surf and turf for the main course the lobster was perfect, the steak was flavorful and tender. The green beans with pecans and caramelized onions were excellent. We had the creme brulee for dessert it was very creamy the only thing wrong with it was it was a little too small to split, should have got two...
We try to get to Devon Seafood Grill in Chicago a couple times of year. We have been extremely happy with our food and the pleasant service every time we've been there.
Prices are a little on the high set but we don't mind paying for the overall experience.
The bartender in the main bar was very friendly and very knowledgeable about wine. The dining room service was just okay. Server tried to take plate away before my friend had finished her oysters. Crab cake was seasoned nicely but was too mushy for my taste. Dining room area was cold. A couple at another table kept their winter coats on throughout their meal.
The service that we received at the Devon Seafood Grill was so incomprehensibly bad, that I am still at a loss to understand what happened. We had a reservation for an early business dinner for four though open table. We were sat downstairs in a nearly empty room and promptly ignored. When we finally got the waitresses attention to order, we ordered 4 glasses of wine and our food. We did not see the waitress again for over 30 minutes. Our appetizers came and I inquired about our wine, but to no avail. Finally after a trip up to the reservation desk, we got our wine in another 15 minutes (long after we had finished the appetizers. Three requests to talk to a manager were ignored. Such abysmal service overshadowed very tasty and well prepared food. A real shame.
The food, service, and ambiance have been consistent each time I have visited, and I have never been disappointed. The firecracker shrimp were excellent for an appetizer, and I almost always order the salmon. The service is great and it is never too loud in there to hold a conversation.
