Devon Seafood Grill - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
The service that we received at the Devon Seafood Grill was so incomprehensibly bad, that I am still at a loss to understand what happened. We had a reservation for an early business dinner for four though open table. We were sat downstairs in a nearly empty room and promptly ignored. When we finally got the waitresses attention to order, we ordered 4 glasses of wine and our food. We did not see the waitress again for over 30 minutes. Our appetizers came and I inquired about our wine, but to no avail. Finally after a trip up to the reservation desk, we got our wine in another 15 minutes (long after we had finished the appetizers. Three requests to talk to a manager were ignored. Such abysmal service overshadowed very tasty and well prepared food. A real shame.
The food, service, and ambiance have been consistent each time I have visited, and I have never been disappointed. The firecracker shrimp were excellent for an appetizer, and I almost always order the salmon. The service is great and it is never too loud in there to hold a conversation.
I planned this from Houston, Tx. The restaurant did everything were wanted and more. We were late but you never knew it. We were seated immediately and were immediately serviced. The lobster bisque was so creamy. The Champaign my husband picked was perfect. All is our dishes were made to order perfectly. I couldn't have looked better lol (the staff is the best) highly recommended. The crab cakes, steak and sword fish, a must try!!! Thanks Devons!
Didn't expect to celebrate my Nov 8 Birthday on Oct 27 but asked our server Nikki if they would honor my certificate for my free entree worth $24 when another entree is purchased which had the Oakbrook Terrace address on it since I live near that location. She said yes and I would also get a free dessert for my Birthday. My boyfriend and I always order seafood here and it is always good but he ordered a filet and loved it. Said it was cooked perfectly. We always sit downstairs at the Chicago location because we love the ambiance and it's quiet. Thanks to Nikki who is a wonderful server for making my early birthday such a great night.
We were celebrating a special occasion with a few friends. The restaurant was quiet on a Sunday evening. Our group of 6 was seated in a small private dining room on the lower level that made it extra special! The staff was attentive but not intrusive during our leisurely dinner.
I really liked your restaurant food was great. What ruined for me and our family was the following:
A group of 10 African Americans had a table in the corner in the lower level. They were very rude. By rude I mean they were very loud. They did not care about anyone else but themselves. I told the waitress and she said she would tell someone. That did not help the noise continued. On my way out I told a gentleman who said he was a manager. Hopefully that was taken care of so the rest of the people could enjoy their dinner.
We celebrated birthdays at Devon Seafood Grill - two of us were first timers and the other two have not been there in 10 years and we all had a great time. Our server (I think his name was Zach) was wonderful and knowledgeable, especially considering he wasn't on the regular staff. He was able to move us to another table after we were seated at a wobbly table and the hostess previously told us she can't move us. Appreciated that very much! He was only there for the night since they needed more people for an event on site, and we didn't get any less quality in service. We had a lot of questions about the food, and he was able to answer all of them. Speaking of food, didn't necessarily blow me away but I was definitely happy with it. Everything tasted great! We didn't try anything too adventurous, I personally got something very simple because I wanted to try the quality of food, and I was not disappointed. The group favorite was the octopus. We ordered another one as soon as we inhaled the first plate. Not a big portion considering the price, but I would still pay for it. Haven't tried octopus in too many places, but Devon's is definitely up there. Good deal on wine on Sundays so we went a little happy with that. Overall a great experience for everyone, and we will definitely be coming back - especially for that octopus!
The food here was good and our server was very friendly. We sat downstairs which was to be more of an intimate area, but the table next to us were extremely loud. The entrees ordered were the risotto and salmon. The Risotto was cooked perfectly, I only wish there was more lobster pieces. The salmon was delicious and was not dry. We would come back again!
The food was good, but not exceptional. The service was a bit below par. We ended up having to refill our wine glasses ourselves and our entrees were brought out almost immediately after our appetizers. We didn't have room on our table so they took our meals back to the kitchen, but by the time we had them returned, most of the items were warm at best. Very disappointing. The atmosphere of the dining room itself is nice and conducive to a business dinner.
We were visiting Chicago and gave this place a try...was within walking distance of where we were staying. The fact that the place was not even half full on a Saturday night should have been a clue about what we would experience. Began with a cocktail...my friend's drink arrived with a hair in it, and the waitress almost argued with her about it being there...until she realized that it was caught on the inside of the mug and she really couldn't dispute it. The server was nice enough, but seemed uninterested in our experience. And the meal moved way too slow. The food was not that great. Nothing remarkable, adequate at best, but parts of it were just not even edible. When we finished our entrees, the waitress automatically comp'd a dessert...which she did at other tables...we hadn't complained, so I got the impression this is something that they do routinely, rather than fix their slow, inattentive service problem. With so many great places in Chicago to eat, I would certainly not recommend this place.
We have been to Devon - Chicago and Oak Brook - multiple times and purchased gift cards. The food was good, but our service was poor with long wait times for our food. We waited more than 30 minutes for bread, soup, and salad, and the wait time got worse as the meal progressed. My parents made the mistake of ordering strawberry shortcake and carrot cake for dessert, which took a long time to arrive. I heard management comp the meal of one couple and a waitress comp dessert for another group because of the long wait. However, we did not receive similar apologies. It may have been a coincidence, but the other patrons were white.
When I walked in I wondered why it was so empty on a Friday night. When I got my food I knew why. I had the chefs special, the steak and my companion the mixed seafood grill. AWFUL. The steak was under cooked and tough. The side dish of risotto with blue cheese inedible. The mixed grill was dry and tasteless. Should have gone to McDonalds.
Waitress directed me to excellent shrimp tacos, which were plenty of food when paired with a salad. The pistachio and strawberry salad was fine but not exceptional. The boulliabase my husband had was full of perfectly cooked seafood, but the broth was salty. Our sorbet trio for dessert was good but not exceptional.
My husband and I went there for my birthday. When I made my reservation I told them that it was my birthday and I wanted a quiet table. Both of these requests were honored. The table was in a a private and quiet area and was decorated with confetti and a happy birthday sign. Our waiter Kyle was very attentive and the food was outstanding. We tried the 3 course meal and we both loved it. The scallops and risotto was delicious and the lobster bisque was out of this world with lots of chunks of lobster. We can't wait to go back and enjoy another fabulous dinner together.
