Devon Seafood + Steak - Oakbrook Terrace Ratings and Reviews
Very nice and welcoming (even though it is in a strip mall). We arrived early and they politely said they would get us in as soon as possible. They did! The food was amazing! Could not imagine better mixed seafood grill or steak and crab cake. The crab cakes are worth the price. Steak was done to perfection with just the right amount of char.
I love the lobster bisque soup in Devon but this dining experience was not as expected. I ordered lobster bisque cup and i could barely see/taste lobster. It was overly salted that overshodow the taste of the soup.
I hope that your chef will consider my feedback.
Overall very good. Maybe a bit in the pricier side, but not too crazy. They REALLY need to fix the lighting. Others around us were complaining too. It’s like a giant spotlight on each table. Blinding if you lean in too much, you need to keep your head back to stay out of light. It’s really awkward.
Had a party of 6 and 3 people ordered the ahi off of the fresh fish selections. The tuna came out well done for all 3, when it was supposed to be seared and red in the middle. They brought out new filets but it took way too long. Nice gesture, but ended up having a 3 hour dinner, which was not acceptable. The apps and sides were good and the server tried to make it right, but the tuna was extremely disappointing
Steak and seafood excellent!
Waitress Janet outstanding--friendly, knowledgeable, made suggestions, always seeking to serve. Busboys, instead of being invisible, made friendly greetings, proactively helpful (one picked up my coat which I didn't realize had fallen off the back of my chair.) My wife, my daughter and I had a very nice evening dinner.
We were expecting this restsurant to be more seafood, but choice of fishes were very poor, too expensive, service wasn't good either.I had ordered lobster cob salad, which cost $24,couple ingredients were missing in the salad, when asked to bring missing ingredients ,they did,but it still tasted terrible and nobody apologize or took the salad from our bill.Definetly not coming back.
went there for a nice dinner and was going to try something different and when it came time to order I said give me the char crusted ahi it what I always have and it was a s great as ever one of these days I will try something different but it's just so good I keep ordering the same thing, my wife as told me that there are other things on the menu just as good but my go too is the Ahi
Overall: not worth the money. Bread bun: good (a diabetic knows to avoid it). Sushi: a quite bad rice dumpling masquerading creation . Shrimp scampi appetizer: very good. Clams: mediocre (or less). Coffee: good. Bouillabaisse soup: acceptable (I wish to find some lobster tail and/or crab legs in it, considering price). Scallops: overdone and lacked taste. The ice cream had a very weak flavor, almost tasteless. Cocktail: the restaurant should consider to employ a professional bartender. Beer: good.
The server started very slow but was fine toward the end.
Not a part of the review, just a recommendation: the restaurant should have a more extensive gluten free menu.
We love Devon Seafood and so it was a logical choice to celebrate a milestone BD. We always choose seating in the bar as it has a more upbeat vibe. Had a large table for six, away from the main seating area so we felt totally private. Our server, Devon (!) was great. Only negatives were that the service for cocktails tended to be a bit slow, not the server's fault. It always seems to be the case there so that tells me they need to staff more bartenders. Most of the food was excellent, a couple of dishes were a slight disappointment. Nothing specifically bad, just maybe the wrong choice by the diners themselves . . . Had a great time!
Every aspect of our meal was excellent. Lighting is perfect. Brighter over the table for menus and food color, yet subdued between tables for a more private experience. Crusted Ahi Tuna was perfect. Not too spicy and not over-cooked. Cauliflower side was a delight. Our waiter was attentive without creating any urgency. Pleasant with great knowledge of the menu when asked. Substitutions were cheerfully granted with no additional charge.
This was a repeat visit - and in so many ways Devon's is terrific. The warm rolls served when you're seated, the quality of the food overall (among the 4 of us we had salmon - planked, sushi and bouillabaisse, salads, bisque, asparagus and creme brulee, as well as cappuccino) - was really great.
The yukon mashed potatoes are a favorite.
The only suggestions are to be more attentive to the small things (like salt and pepper on the table - and offer fresh ground pepper with soups, salad and certain entrees). Grated cheese on the caesar salad? anchovies? would appreciate...
Front desk team - always welcoming and warm in their greetings.
Thank you for the Birthday festive menu and dessert.
Three friends, looking for good seafood, on a very cold night and we struck nailed it here! The restaurant wasn't crowded(because of the cold), so we had the advantage of non-rushed dinner and conversation. We also chatted with the waiter quite a bit, who had great dining suggestions. Staff was very attentive to us and also, were content to leave us alone as we were just catching up with each other. Between the three of us, we have probably had all their trout dishes (the pretzel covered trout was surprising--big pieces of trout and NOT rolled in crushed pretzels but rather had bits of pretzel tossed in with them). Wine list is decent--one of the party is involved in wine peripherally, so she repectfully gave the waiter some information he was unaware of in making wine suggestions. All in all a great night with friends.
Love the quality of food. The tuna poke was fresh and flavorful. The Arctic Char was one of the best prepared pieces of fish I’ve ever had and the sides are interesting and flavorful - not just roasted cauliflower, but mixed with pieces of sweet bacon. Ate every morsel on my plate, which doesn’t often happen. Only issue is the level of music - turn it down a bit to ease opportunity for conversation (seems to be an issue with too many restaurants). Interior design includes really nice bar area with high top tables and separate restaurant that are nicely appointed with warm lighting. Hostess very friendly. Our server just ok (never got second portion of fabulous biscuit that was supposed to come, took forever to get our check and pay our tab).
Disappointed that the Menu & food quality has really gone down hill over the past several years. Last time we visited this location was for NYE 2014. Since then, we moved into the city and frequented the Chicago Ave Devon Seafood Grill. Was sad that our first visit back to the Oakbrook Terrace restaurant was very underwhelming.
Our fish was cooked to perfection. we do not enjoy over cooked fish...and to do this on such a very busy evening...New Year's Eve... had to be a challenge for the chefs. We are most grateful.
The prime rib, however, was tasty but tough...Our other guest, on the other hand, had a steak that couldn't have been better. !
Where ever did you get such a server.......She couldn't have been any better. She should take a grand bow ! Many thanks !
Me and my husband visited the restaurant New Years Eve 2017. We were very surprised that the restaurant was not very busy for New Years Eve. The bar was very full but, dining area had empty tables. Hence, it could have been because the wind chill was -35 that night. However, our reservation was at 7:30 pm and we arrived right on time and had requested a booth so, the Hostess explain that they were running about 10 minutes behind schedule and asked if, we were willing to wait a little longer for a booth and we were OK with that; we waited only 15 minutes and was seated. Our waitress "Nicki, C" arrived at our table within, minutes to take our drink orders; the service that night was very good, no complaints. However, the food was a little disappointing. I ordered the "Seafood Mixed Grill, sm shrimp sushi, a cup of lobster bisque and a glass of 6oz Moscato no dessert; my husband ordered 6oz steak and shrimp, sprite and no dessert. The food was "LUKE" warm at best, the steak was like "shoe leather", the sushi roll was tasteless, the lobster Bisque was just warm. I could see if, the restaurant was busy but, there were several empty tables. So, I except no excuse for "cold" food. Devon, just do not do steak, well at all, period. The dining area was not very clean, the ambience was a very little dated with very little x mas decorations but, the restroom was clean. Devon, was a "Choice" restaurant which, we have visited several times in the past also, when it was called "Braxton" however, with more choices in the area. Devon, as become for us, more of an "Option."
The place is very nice and noise level wasn’t too bad considering it was New Years Eve. The service was excellent and the food arrived very fast so I can’t complain at all about that. The table seemed to have been squeezed in to allow for the most seating available on a big night. I felt like I should have been on first name basis with the other tables around us so needless to say, you couldn’t have a truly private conversation at dinner. The food is fresh. I had the filet and lobster tail and my husband had the filet and fried shrimp. Be prepared, because this is a different taste. Everything is wood fire grilled so it has a smokey flavor to it and the steak is rubbed with several different seasonings and none that I would care to have again. Again, it is a very nice place with fresh food, just not my kind of taste.
