Deuxave Ratings and Reviews
...unless you can afford to eat like that everyday! it's like a hip l'espalier - classic french and yet more modern. absolutely delicious. it was way too hot for the 9-hr onion soup, but we loved the lobster gnocchi, the duck pate, the bass and the morrocan lamb. fantastic. no room for dessert, sadly. great service, great wine. very good bread: nice flavor but exterior was not as crusty as you'd expect (maybe the extreme heat and humidity is to blame there). suuuuper expensive, but we felt justified as it was our anniversary. A very memorable meal. go.
We were visting Boston from New Zealand and wanted a special meal and evening. Deuxave certainly provided that. The food choices were interesting and very appealing; service from Andrew the sommelier was superb, his wine matches were excellent and we loved the ambience of the restaurant. My scallops for main were divine as was my husband's New York steak. My dessert of strawberries, lychees and rhubarb, a perfect combination and an art form on the plate . Overall, a fabulous dinner and evening we recommend others experience.
This was our second time at Deuxave and it did not disappoint. We were with friends that were over from the UK and celebrating a birthday. The food is inventive and well prepared, the service attentive and, as opposed to many establishments these days, you can hear each other talk even with tables full around you. It is pricey (entrees in the $30 range and appetizers in the teens) but for the special occasion or splurge it is well worth it and ranks up there as one of Boston's finest,
1) The valet, who didn't know how to drive a stick, attempted to drive it anyway, and created a very bad screeching noise, before giving it to the other valet.
2) I had to ask the waitress for a slice of lime twice before I got it.
3) The busboy spilled ice cold water all over me.
4) The waitress did not pour a small amount of the wine for me to taste before filling my cup.
My previous visits were much better than this last one.
While Deuxave is one of my favorite restaurants in Boston, it has truly disappointed me this time.
The quality and standard of service has gone downhill.
Knowing little about this restaurant, I chose it for a special anniversary dinner. I am delighted by my choice! Every aspect of the dinner was excellent. Atmosphere, service and food were all excellent. It was our best eating experience in years!
The watermelon and crispy pork belly appetizer was even better than it sounded, a surprising combination of tastes that yielded an extraordinary result. I'm glad I tried it! Deuxave regularly changes the accompaniments for its incredibly succulent chicken - always a delightful surprise!
My daughter and I chose to eat here because of the ranking and review on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious and beautifully presented! We particularly enjoyed the "Night Moves" appetizer. The service was excellent - attentive but not over the top.
This restaurant truly deserves its top rating on tripadvisor. We are NY foodies who are frequently disappointed with our city's "top" restaurants and haven't found a really spectacular place that we wanted to return to again and again since discovering Craft in NYC about ten years ago. Deuxave is every bit as good and reminded us of our favorite place. Everything was delicious and the staff is top notch and exceptionally knowledgable. If you're in Boston you must go!
an excellent dining experience @Deuxave. Food, service and ambience all met very high standards. Chris Coombs and his team have created one of the best restaurants in the city. The restaurant was very busy on the evening of 3 July. We were seated quite promptly when arriving for our reservation.
Outstanding meal. Server was very pleasant but
A little absent at times. Lovely interior but
Temperature was too warm to be comfortable
Hostess did turn air down but didn't help much
Chicken dish is out of this world delicious. I don't
typically ordered chicken but so happy I did that
Evening. My husband has halibut which he
enjoyed but commented it was a little on the
dry side. Highly recommend dining here.
We were two couples for
Dinner on Sunday evening. We were seated promptly. Our waitress was great, very informative (she's Russian, linving in US for the past 7 years). Service was excellent. All our appetizers and entrees were fantastic (personay had the carpaccio and the Colorado lamb). Desserts I would probably skip. Wine list with many choices at different price levels.
I liked Deuxave, but I didn't LOVE Deuxave, as I'd hoped I would based on all the great reviews. The food was good, the service was good, etc. I think maybe because we were tucked away in a little corner with a group of loud students sitting at the table just next to us. We felt a bit isolated and at times overlooked by the waiter because of where we were sitting. Still, it was a nice dinner. I'd go back to give it another shot.
walked in and were seated immediately. the server was prompt to the table and you knew immediately that she knew what she was doing. Explained the menu expertly and then offered either het suggestions in the wine list or made the sommelier available. We chose the sommelier, although I have no doubt she could of handled it quite well, and he guided its through the lovely list. We chose a very nice French Burgundy and were not disappointed. The food was fresh and professionally served and prepared, it was what the menu said it was and wad the server said it would be, that is rarely the case.
Impeccable service. knowledgeable staff and a truly lovely evening.
Food and ambience quite good, but not outstanding. Waiter/ess service very good, but kitchen kept us waiting for over 20 minutes for main course after the appetizers. Parking by valet only, as neighborhood is central and packed, and parking was $20 with a modest tip. Restaurant hard to get to quickly, esp. in rush-hour, by car from anywhere (not near turnpike and not near any exit on Storrow Drive.)
All in all, OK, but the inconvenience in getting there, parking and the long wait for the main course kept this restaurant from being better than "good."
This is a top notch place for an evening of fine dining. All of the food we tried was prepared just right and tasted out of this world good. Highly recommend getting the duck fat fries with any entree, they might be the best that I've ever tried. The restaurant itself is very classy inside and out, the waitstaff were attentive, but not overwhelming, and the overall ambiance was quite nice - excellent for conversation. If you are up in the air about a restaurant for a special occasion, have no reservations about Deuxave.
We had a terrific dinner- food, service, ambiance, everything was absolutely perfect. The best dinner we have had in Boston actually. At the conclusion, we were already talking about coming back.
But one thing was bothersome. We had been given a gift card for the dinner and when the bill came, we had guessed pretty accurately that the dinner and gratuity were almost perfectly equal to the amount on the gift card. But when our server came back, she said we had a balance on the gift card since the gratuity could not be put on it. She said that this was so we would have to come back to spend the balance. A small thing, since the whole evening had been wonderful, but this left a bit of a sour taste. And has never happened to us before.
Deuxave got high marks so decided to give it a try. There was one review that I read before making the reservation that stuck in my head about a Server that was so over the top and pretentious that he ruined a couple’s dinner. He claimed to have tasted 80% of the wines on their rather large wine list and came off as over bearing. Just out luck that he happened to be our Server as well. I can say that the reviewer was on point! My girlfriend took an instant dislike to him and I tolerated him. As for the food, it was very good, not great. The Foie Gras and the Halibut were the standouts. The Beet salad was average and my Duck was good, not memorable. Sides of Risotto, Mushrooms and the Desserts were fantastic.
It was my first visit to Deuxave and will definitely return on my next trip to Boston. The wine list was excellent and the service was attentive without being intrusive. I had salmon two ways for a first course complemented by a Peter MIchael chardonnay and the duck breast for the main paired with a Chateaux Rayas. The food was fresh and creative. The presentations were flawless. Bravo!
I took my parents here for a graduation celebration dinner and everyone found something they liked. It was a bit noisy for them since we were seated next to a table of ladies who were putting back a fair amount of alcohol but it was still nice. I think what really made the place great was the service - both of my parents forgot their reading glasses and couldn't read the menu but the waiter brought them both their own pairs to borrow!
