Pleasant early Saturday night dinner with friends. Since it was early there was not too much noise. Our waitress Camile was pleasant and gracious. A desirable seat by the second floor window was drafty and chilly.
Glad to have the use of an elevator.
Food excellent with small portions an option.
A great place in a sea of options in Ambler. Perfect for a date, friends get together, or any special occasion. Great food, service and wine list that rotates with the season meaning there will be frequent changes to the menu.
The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable! My husband orders oysters everywhere he can and he said “These were by far the best ones he has ever eaten!.” My tuna was perfectly cooked and delicious! We will go back again!
The cuisine gets better every time we go!
Potions were small ; special drink “slim Ginny” on menu was almost as expensive as the appetizer, $2 difference which is ridiculous due the size; Drinks took forever to arrive which affected meal , cappuccino came after desert but ordered at the same time. Not sure if I would go back again
We had not been there since shortly after it opened, which is quite a while ago. We had a gift card, so went after the movies.....looking forward to going again very soon!
Service a little slow because of big party but we had a lovely evening with friends. Will return.
Chef Powers never disappoints.
Great service and very good fig and arugula pizza.
I happen to really like Deterra. It’s a little pricey, but the food is consistently good and well prepared. Just beware as they have a somewhat eclectic and small menu. The portions are not incredibly huge, but definitely large enough for one person or enough to share if you aren’t starving.
This time I was there, we had a wonderfully prepared calamari appetizer, tasty swordfish and scrumptious chocolate bread pudding with banana and peanut butter. I would be the size of a house I’d I ate it all the time.
Definitely someplace to consider when you want to dine in Ambler.
We were seated at a perfect table by the window as requested. Our waitress was lovely and very accommodating. The food was delicious. Hazelnut soup wow!, wonderful salad, and a sausage pizza on perfectly cooked crust. Everything was really great until one of the hostesses rolled her eyes at me when I asked for our check because we had to get to a show. It really wasn’t necessary.
Let me get right to the point. Deterrra is awesome, every time! The menu is accessible and creative at the same time. The ambiance is "comfortably classy". The service, from the Hostess to the Bartenders to the Servers, rivals any top restaurant. Special shout out to Camille, our server this past weekend...she is amazing and a true professional. For the rest, just go there and find out for yourselves. As for my wife and I, we'll be back soon to be sure!
Overall, it was a good experience. Would have loved bread earlier into our evening especially because of the appetizer we ordered (peppers). It's a little expensive.
Great spot. Food was delicious, fantastic drink menu, service was above average. Would definitely recommend.
This was a nice place, the food was quite good and the setting was pleasant. As an appetizer I had the Grilled Octopus and I thought it was excellent! The octopus had a slight char, but was not over cooked, the roasted veggies and dressing were a compliment to the octopus. As an entree I had duck breast and it was also well made and tasty. As a dessert we had the cheese plate, which was fine. One odd thing is that in general cheese is the last course of the meal but the cheese plate was listed on the main menu just after appetizers, I understand the in the US we tend to eat cheese before a meal, but I would suggest that they repeat the cheese plate on the desert menu. Now, the bad part Service, Dave our waiter was absent for long periods of time took him 15 minutes to pick up the check. I will definitely go back, the food was that good, and the service may improve though I imagine if the service does not improve Dettera will become detritus of Ambler's restaurant renaissance.
This was our first visit, and recommended by a friend for our 8th anniversary. I wish I knew about this gem sooner. The food was excellent and the service was prompt, courteous and attentive (without hovering). The staff was on point, and the venue was spotless! I will definitely be back again.
The restaurant is very nice. Sophisticated without being fussy. The service was good, not great. We waited a lot and our waiter spilled my cocktail, but overall did not ruin my experience. The food was interesting in writing, and was good, but maybe I expected a bit more from the description. I had duck and it was a bit undercooked and tough. The faro was too chewy. The flavors were good though. The cocktail list is interesting, but what I chose did not wow (The Southside). It needed a mint garnish. I think 4 out of 5 starts is accurate and fair. I'll definitely go back and try other items on the menu.
This was our first time eating at Deterra. We went for our Anniversary. I thought it was nice but loud. We were sitting upstairs and it was still real loud. The wine was nice and a decent price. We had the Tuna Tartare which was tasty. I got the scallops and my husband got the shirt ribs ravioli. The portions are small but you can order side portions such as roasted Brussel sprouts with bacon, mushrooms, etc..... We did not have the desert because we were full. We would probably go back. I wish though they had more selections for entrees like salmon, or other fish.
Pleasant experience. Better than expected
Not as good as past experiences. Food was average, salad not fresh, pizza was greasy and burger just average. Not sure what’s up, this had been one of our favorite spots in Ambler. The place was also pretty empty for a Friday night, now I know why.
I am a long time patron in this establishment
I love this restaurant! From the minute you walk in ,you can feel how that space has amazing volume!
The bar tenders are knowlagable , the signature drink Orange Blossom is amazing and refreshing!the wine choices are many and beers cover a full spectrum of preference
My favorite drink at the bar is old fashion! The bartender uses one large square ice cube using the original Luxardo cherries adding a special touch to an old recipe !
The menu is vast and offers one, a variety of choices from pizzas to an extremely complex foodie entrees
My favorite is Amish chicken
The plates come out with beautiful presentation and soups come and are poured table side!
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone! A center city type gem in the suburbs
Had a very good first experience at Dettera. We started off with the calamari which came with chickpeas and greens. If anything it was a little light on the calamari and heavy on the chickpeas, but tasty. Then my wife had this sweet potato ravioli with braised pork shoulder which was really good. I had the waygu flank steak which was also very good. For desert she had sorbet and I had the warm butter cake. Loved our server (Camille) she was awesome! Would definitely go back.
We had an amazing dinner in the quiet courtyard with an outdoor fireplace! Adorably lit and super cozy! We enjoyed the fig arugula pizza the most! And we also had the mushroom pizza which was very good...
Yes, but I would warn them about the noise. I went on a week night and it was still really noisy. But the food is great and the service people are very helpful.
Meticulous details were paid to all aspects of the meal. The quality and freshness of every dish made this experience exceptional. Dettera stands out as a gem in the Philly suburbs!
Nice ambiance, excellent wine list and well-prepared cocktails. The food is the freshest it could possibly be with creative tasty seasonings, sauces and lovely presentation. Simply the best of its kind.
We sat at the bar, there were 2 bartenders and the older guy was clearly overwhelmed and made sure everyone knew including customers. I waited 20 minutes for a drink, we had to ask if we could order food from someone else who came to help Mr Overwhelmed ( it was Saturday night, it wasn’t that busy) food was just mediocre, aranci were gluey with no real taste, calamari needed better treatment and more seasoning. The oysters were great and octopus was tasty. 2 out of 4 not great odds. We were never even asked if we wanted another drink. A couple of people came and left because they were never waited on, I was terribly disappointed!
Came Friday night at 7:15pm. Food good; 2 pizzas (fig and marquarita, first excellent, latter ok not great) and two salads (beets, mascarpone) Service second rate and very slow. In part perhaps based on waiter choice to bring out all at same time. Salads first, pizza second may have made this better. Started pretty noisy later better. We were not rushed. Still a nice evening.
Food was great prices reasonable but the noise level was quite high although expected on a Saturday night!
While Deterra can't be beat in the Ambler area, we did have some small issues with the service and taste of one of our 5 dishes. However, the other 4 plates of course blew us away, so the experience remains a net positive as we've come to expect. Will be back!
The service was disappointing, the food took way too long.
We are never disappointed wit Dettera! Love that they change up the menu seasonally. Dishes are prepared and presented excellently! Camilla gave great service and was very knowledgeable of the menu and wine selections!
Great meal & drinks. Did small plates this time including tomato crostini special, cheese board & tuna tartare. Wonderful wine list & good selection by the glass. Highly recommend!
All three meals, apps and dessert were very good. Sadly, the duck was overcooked and tough but the
rest of the dish was delicious. I would give it another chance.
Always a good time at Dettera. We sat in the alley, which is nice and quiet. The food was delicious and service was fast and friendly.
Interesting and delicious food. Pleasant atmosphere. We like to sit at comfortable round table by the window.
Every single thing we ordered was delicious and cooked perfectly! Oysters were amazing. Service was fast and friendly. Will definitely return
We sat outside as it was a beautiful night. The food was interesting but good.
Al fresco dining was nice. They have an atrium and street front dining. Scallops and brick over pizza both good. Had to move indoors because of light rain. Indoor ambiance was nice.
