Excellent, comfortable, interesting food, attentive-for real-staff.
Dettera continues to deliver. Creative menu items, beautiful preparation, and the perfect level of attention and attention to detail from the wait staff make this a great place for special night or just a quick bite to eat before or after a movie at the Ambler Theater.
The chef likes to evolve the menu seasonally so it never feels old or stale. But it retains a familiar sense so that while you may not know "what" will be offered as the seasons change, you do know it will be of the same style and commitment to excellence that you have had before. Fish, poultry, pork and beef are well represented in the mains while a clever combination of pasta dishes are great when you are not in the mood.
The flat-breads make a great quick bite, and if you're just in a grazing mood, the appetizers and sides can be combined to make a nice evening. The wine list has continued to evolve and has a great selection across price ranges. Enjoy.
Had a wonderful dining experience and the food was off the charts ! Will definitely be back !
The food, drinks, and atmosphere were excellent!
Very disappointed in a restaurant that had such good reviews. The cheese board appetizer was delightful and the cocktails were good. I asked to save the wine list to order some wine with dinner. My entree arrived luke warm. My dining partner ordered the risotto (large portion) which arrived in a very large bowl with a very small portion. Difficult to justify the $24 price tag. Our server, who DID NOT bring our entrees to the table, did not follow up until our entrees were almost finished. I was not given a chance to order wine. The entrees were so-so, nothing special. I was looking forward to dining at one of the finest restaurants in Ambler. I would not dine here again or recommend it to anyone.
Valentine’s Day is tough, but this was sad. They had a 4 course prix fixe menu. We were seated right on time for our 8:15 reservation, but after an hour and a half, we had only been served the first course. At least six tables around us had no food all this time. We were all looking at each other in amazement because the server kept running around but she never brought out any food. She looked like she was holding back tears. We finally got up and left at 10:00, as did most of the other couples. No manager walking around to explain what was going on much less apologize; even when we asked for more bread the answer was “it’s being cut.” It’s a shame ... that first course was really, really good, and it seems like a nice place. Again, I’m sure Valentine’s Day is difficult, but they have been there long enough that it’s not their first. They should be good at it by now.
We went to dinner on Valentine’s Day and it was a complete disaster. They had a 4 course pre fixed menu with a wine pairing. The first glasses of wine came out quickly but no food. We waited and waited and waited for the first course. After eating we noticed that every table in our section looked annoyed and not one table had food. The waiter came back with our 2nd glasses of wine and apologized that the food was taking so long. We thought it would get better...but it got worse! We finished our 2nd glasses and again waited longer for the food. Noticed we had been there for just about 2 HOURS! We started talking to the people at tables around us and we were thinking maybe the cooks went on strike or we were on some hidden camera show. Finally the second course came out but by then we were so annoyed and had no appetite. Decided to leave before we even got the main course. No manager came out to talk to us! Our server was so nice an apologetic and we felt like all the servers were hung out to dry. Very unprofessional and for the money they were charging we thought they’d have it together! The only charged us half the bill. Which was still too much in my opinion. We understood it was going to be busy on Valentine’s Day but we couldn’t comprehend how a supposedly ‘restaurant’ wasn’t prepared at all!
Our previous dining experiences at Deterra were wonderful. We had reservations on Valentine's Day for the prix fixe dinner. The staff and kitchen were clearly having issues and the service was extremely slow. The servers didn't seem to know who ordered what and took food from table to table. They seemed to have several very young men serving the food while the more experienced waiters took the orders. We were offered our third course before we ever had our first course. My main course - a steak - was rare and I ordered it medium well. The other three courses were good. Other tables were having the same issues. Our waiter apologized, but honestly they should have done something to make up for such a bad experience. Where was the manager???
Valentines was a disappountment. Must have been problems in the kitchen. We left after an hour and 40 minutes after having been served only a drinks and a salad out of our four-course pri fixe menu. Very disappointing, after many great meals here in the past.
It was Valentine’s Day dinner, and we arrived half an hour early the bartender was great, but everything went downhill from there. We were seated on time but the waitress was horrible took forever to serve us our first course and two hours later we still didn’t have our dinner. Other people came in after us and we’re finished before. She also had an attitude and we left without eating our meal. My wife and I were arguing by the end of it all, so thanks for nothing. Also the manager did not handle the situation very well, and probably could use some training.
Great place, great food and drinks but it took too long to get service. Many tables left before receiving the last 2 courses. The wait staff did fine and apologized for the late service. I think the problem was the kitchen.
This was a Special Valentines meal. I am hoping this was a one time thing. I would like to give it another shot someday, I think.
We started off the 5 cheeses on the cheese tray. They were all great. I had the trout & my girlfriend had the striped bass. They were both delicious. We also ordered some brussel sprouts which were also delicious. We also ordered a bottle of Trione Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc which was also very good. All in all Deterra was a great restaurant.
Food was good as was the service. Menu was a bit limited, especially if you don’t eat seafood and aren’t vegetarian. Maybe augmenting with a few more specials would help. Overall we had a very good evening out with friends.
Had a plant based meal ...I really enjoy the charred cauliflower and they were very accommodating about no bacon on the brussels sprouts
Heard raves about this place but hostess greeting was mediocre and waitress was ok. Not the customer service I would have expected for a bill of $275 for 4 people. Food was tasty but not wow.
Great service and food.
Great food but expensive.
Lost of waitstaff but our sever never came back to see how the meal was.
A wonderful evening at Dettera! We started with cocktails and had a lovey dinner finishing with espresso! Can’t wait to do it again!
Server was great and food was delicious
Good wine and apps in a friendly atmosphere
This was our third time at Dettera and it has yet to disappoint. The ambience is clean and streamlined, the food is excellent, and our server, Brian, was delightful.
Our favorite suburban restaurant which is a hard find these days. Consistently well prepared innovative farm fresh seasonal fare. Chef keeps getting better and the wait staff is professional , nice and efficient. General manager is particularly adept and food knowledgeable making the Deterra run smoothly and with dispatch. A real gem in the burbs that should not be missed.
Consistently a great meal.
I like Dettera, especially on off nights, because it is less crowded. The food is great, but I find the selection a bit too eclectic. I eat out alot for business, and if it weren't for the pizza, the chicken and the delicious beef short ribs, I would have had to take my crew somewhere else, though it would be great if someone liked Octopus! They even had that on the menu as an appetizer. Service was excellent, better than best Zagat restaurants. Thank you!
The endive salad and the mushroom pizza were amazing. This was the perfect spot after seeing a movie at the Ambler Theater right across the street.
New York City restaurant in the heart of Ambler! Everything was sooo delicious! I had the duck which was very tender and flavorful. My husband had the short ribs which melted in your mouth. To start we shared escargot which was a treat in a garlic sauce. Will most definitely be back!
Great service, as usual. The mushroom pizza was very good & the cappuccino excellent
Great atmosphere and service. The food was very good.
I am used to larger menus. However that being said ,my wife informed me is because ingredients are mostly local& fresher.I totally agree . I loved my main course the grilled pork chop.Dessert was excellent. Our waiter was friendly& very knowledgeable. Will definitely return.
Everything about our dinner was excellent. I especially liked that they offered a smaller portion for all of their pasta dishes.
Love this restaurant but it is noisy downstairs. I asked for upstairs a week in advance but we were seated downstairs. Food was excellent.
The best most innovative consistent restaurant in the burbs. Top shelf chef and staff. Not to be missed.
Always excellent food. Excellent service. Friendly warm & inviting staff. Chef Jeffrey Power is exceptional!!! Always a first choice for a perfect dining experience!
Food was just average. Good customer base but .. do they have taste buds?
My go-to place when I want a nice environment, fine glass of wine and an excellent meal. Love It!
I’ve been there many times but my last experience was disappointing. Service was very very slow and I was always looking for our server and she wasn’t there. My daughter asked for no onions on her tuna appetizer and it had onions. She couldn’t eat it and it was an expensive mistake. My striped bass was not the best. It tasted fishy. I must admit I am not rushing back. I was raving about this restaurant to my daughters and I didn’t think the restaurant lived up to my expectations
Best duck dish in the area. Keeps getting better
Very nice experience. Some original and fun dishes mixed in with some more traditional fair. I might have liked a touch more dressing on the endive salad, but the grilled octopus and tuna tartare more than made up for it. Gnocchi was very delicious as well. Fun place. Good vibe. Will definitely keep it on the rotation.
Way too expensive for the quality and quantity of food!! Don’t mind spending the money if it’s worth it, this was not!!! Very disappointing!!
