Dettera is one of our favorite restaurants in the Philadelphia area. The staff are very attentive, the atmosphere is very friendly, the chef is adventurous and changes the menu with each season, and the food is excellent. Dettera is the restaurant to which we take friends and neighbors to thank them for their friendship.
I really enjoyed eating at Dettera. We sat outside. It was quiet and romantic. It was beautifully decorated. The food was very good. The service was not so great. Our waiter was nice but very inexperienced. We waited a very long time for are food. It's a shame because I really enjoyed it but must likley won't go back.
Food was excellent. Waiter was marvelous. It is rare to find such an exceptional waiter.
We were there for almost 50 min before we received any food. Didn't get drink refills. Waitress was not at the top of her game. Also, wanted better seating.
This was our first visit to Dettera. We had a wonderful, quiet outdoor table with very good, almost great service. We didn’t feel rushed. The wile list is very small, but acceptable. The food was fantastic as well as mildly eclectic. Prices were mid-range, neither diner-cheap, nor posh-expensive. We will definitely visit again.
I was not only satisfied but impressed by the entire dining experience. The patio was quiet, but had we opted to sit in the main dining area, it would have been louder than I would have wanted for an intimate date.
Always a good time here, the staff is great and friendly, FOOD is awesome and fresh! This was my 3rd time here, each time I come I bring a different group with me to experience this place, its great, everyone has loved it!
Fresh, well prepared food. Comes out hot, a big plus.
We are at the bar and Lexi and April are just the best.
Lovely meal, good service, and comfortable table location
Started at 5:30pm on Friday night with 6 people at the bar and we were greeted by two bartenders with surly lols and bad attitudes to back it. Will never be back at this restaurant. Even if the food was the best I’d ever had, which it certainly wasn’t, I wouldn’t return because the service was so poor. Rude! Rude! Rude!
The side of carrots and cauliflower was deliciously charred and flavorful: a winner! The cauliflower pizza was delicious, but the cauliflower steak was not quite cooked. The stem area was hard. Our friends enjoyed the oysters particularly. Our waitress was not as attentive and on top of things as has been our experience there before.
We have been to Dettera a few times now and it never disappoints. The food is always excellent and on par or better than any of the high end restaurants in Philadelphia. The chef offers some of the most unusual, flavorful and enjoyable entrees we have had. I used to think it was a bit over-priced, but I have paid equal or more for meals that were very disappointing. It’s our go to restaurant for a great dinner.
Bar and wine list were good. Roasted beet salad worth ordering again.
Excellent food for both vegetarian and meat eater. Attentive service. Will return.
Great atmosphere and great food. Our particular waitress was a bit inattentive.
Food is really tasty and creative! Service was excellent as well.
Great food, great service... Just not a lot of selection!
As always great food and service. April and Lexi behind the bar are the best!
Grilled octopus appetizer was great. We each ordered fish for a main entree and both were bland in taste. So food overall was average. Service was poor. The restaurant was not overly crowded and yet we waited over an hour for our entrees (just two of us dining, not a big party) and finally had to ask to get it out. No refills on water, had to ask for clean silverware for our entrees even though they took our dirty utensils after the appetizer. We honestly are not picky on these types of items but service was just not good. Would not go back for the money spent.
Excellent, comfortable, interesting food, attentive-for real-staff.
Dettera continues to deliver. Creative menu items, beautiful preparation, and the perfect level of attention and attention to detail from the wait staff make this a great place for special night or just a quick bite to eat before or after a movie at the Ambler Theater.
The chef likes to evolve the menu seasonally so it never feels old or stale. But it retains a familiar sense so that while you may not know "what" will be offered as the seasons change, you do know it will be of the same style and commitment to excellence that you have had before. Fish, poultry, pork and beef are well represented in the mains while a clever combination of pasta dishes are great when you are not in the mood.
The flat-breads make a great quick bite, and if you're just in a grazing mood, the appetizers and sides can be combined to make a nice evening. The wine list has continued to evolve and has a great selection across price ranges. Enjoy.
Had a wonderful dining experience and the food was off the charts ! Will definitely be back !
The food, drinks, and atmosphere were excellent!
Very disappointed in a restaurant that had such good reviews. The cheese board appetizer was delightful and the cocktails were good. I asked to save the wine list to order some wine with dinner. My entree arrived luke warm. My dining partner ordered the risotto (large portion) which arrived in a very large bowl with a very small portion. Difficult to justify the $24 price tag. Our server, who DID NOT bring our entrees to the table, did not follow up until our entrees were almost finished. I was not given a chance to order wine. The entrees were so-so, nothing special. I was looking forward to dining at one of the finest restaurants in Ambler. I would not dine here again or recommend it to anyone.
Valentine’s Day is tough, but this was sad. They had a 4 course prix fixe menu. We were seated right on time for our 8:15 reservation, but after an hour and a half, we had only been served the first course. At least six tables around us had no food all this time. We were all looking at each other in amazement because the server kept running around but she never brought out any food. She looked like she was holding back tears. We finally got up and left at 10:00, as did most of the other couples. No manager walking around to explain what was going on much less apologize; even when we asked for more bread the answer was “it’s being cut.” It’s a shame ... that first course was really, really good, and it seems like a nice place. Again, I’m sure Valentine’s Day is difficult, but they have been there long enough that it’s not their first. They should be good at it by now.
We went to dinner on Valentine’s Day and it was a complete disaster. They had a 4 course pre fixed menu with a wine pairing. The first glasses of wine came out quickly but no food. We waited and waited and waited for the first course. After eating we noticed that every table in our section looked annoyed and not one table had food. The waiter came back with our 2nd glasses of wine and apologized that the food was taking so long. We thought it would get better...but it got worse! We finished our 2nd glasses and again waited longer for the food. Noticed we had been there for just about 2 HOURS! We started talking to the people at tables around us and we were thinking maybe the cooks went on strike or we were on some hidden camera show. Finally the second course came out but by then we were so annoyed and had no appetite. Decided to leave before we even got the main course. No manager came out to talk to us! Our server was so nice an apologetic and we felt like all the servers were hung out to dry. Very unprofessional and for the money they were charging we thought they’d have it together! The only charged us half the bill. Which was still too much in my opinion. We understood it was going to be busy on Valentine’s Day but we couldn’t comprehend how a supposedly ‘restaurant’ wasn’t prepared at all!
Our previous dining experiences at Deterra were wonderful. We had reservations on Valentine's Day for the prix fixe dinner. The staff and kitchen were clearly having issues and the service was extremely slow. The servers didn't seem to know who ordered what and took food from table to table. They seemed to have several very young men serving the food while the more experienced waiters took the orders. We were offered our third course before we ever had our first course. My main course - a steak - was rare and I ordered it medium well. The other three courses were good. Other tables were having the same issues. Our waiter apologized, but honestly they should have done something to make up for such a bad experience. Where was the manager???
Valentines was a disappountment. Must have been problems in the kitchen. We left after an hour and 40 minutes after having been served only a drinks and a salad out of our four-course pri fixe menu. Very disappointing, after many great meals here in the past.
It was Valentine’s Day dinner, and we arrived half an hour early the bartender was great, but everything went downhill from there. We were seated on time but the waitress was horrible took forever to serve us our first course and two hours later we still didn’t have our dinner. Other people came in after us and we’re finished before. She also had an attitude and we left without eating our meal. My wife and I were arguing by the end of it all, so thanks for nothing. Also the manager did not handle the situation very well, and probably could use some training.
Great place, great food and drinks but it took too long to get service. Many tables left before receiving the last 2 courses. The wait staff did fine and apologized for the late service. I think the problem was the kitchen.
This was a Special Valentines meal. I am hoping this was a one time thing. I would like to give it another shot someday, I think.
We started off the 5 cheeses on the cheese tray. They were all great. I had the trout & my girlfriend had the striped bass. They were both delicious. We also ordered some brussel sprouts which were also delicious. We also ordered a bottle of Trione Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc which was also very good. All in all Deterra was a great restaurant.
Food was good as was the service. Menu was a bit limited, especially if you don’t eat seafood and aren’t vegetarian. Maybe augmenting with a few more specials would help. Overall we had a very good evening out with friends.
Had a plant based meal ...I really enjoy the charred cauliflower and they were very accommodating about no bacon on the brussels sprouts
Heard raves about this place but hostess greeting was mediocre and waitress was ok. Not the customer service I would have expected for a bill of $275 for 4 people. Food was tasty but not wow.
Great service and food.
Great food but expensive.
Lost of waitstaff but our sever never came back to see how the meal was.
A wonderful evening at Dettera! We started with cocktails and had a lovey dinner finishing with espresso! Can’t wait to do it again!
Server was great and food was delicious
