Detroit Seafood Market Ratings and Reviews
I came to this restaurant with my family and had a horrible experience!!!! I ordered the fried double lobster tails and received 1 & 1/2 lobster tails. After mentioning this to the waitress I was asked to provide the 1/2 lobster to the manager, Sean that he picked up with his hands and walked off with. The waitress also asked me to return an extra side of vegetables that was given for free before the lobster tail was returned. The waitress attempted to walk to the table with the fried lobster tail replacement, however, the waitress proceeded to the manager, Sean first to show him that the new lobster tail was 1/2 as the first one was. The waitress attempted to provide me with the 1/2 lobster tail and explained that she wanted Sean to witness that the new lobster tail was the first same size as the one I sent back (in Sean's hands) previously. The waitress informed me that Sean said it was okay to serve me another 1/2 lobster tail and will bring another at no charge. I declined the 1/2 lobster tail because I'm furious at this point. How do you walk someone's food across the whole restaurant for inspection and carry it back to the customer????? How unprofessional, disrespectful, and disgusting is that? After voicing my concerns with Sean I was actually charged for a meal $9 less and was never offered a substitution or any resolution. This was my second time visiting this restaurant and will never return. I definitely would not recommend anyone to dine there as the waitress and manager, Sean provided horrible customer service!!!!!
The food was excellent, I can't say that about anything else there. The service was horrible. We had to grab the wait staff for everything we got. We had reservations but were not seated until 20 minutes past the reservation. No one ask if we would like beverages, we had to ask. When I ask about about bread, I was told it wasn't ready. When the bread came, I had to ask for bread plates. The waitress brought us saucers, not plates. After 45 minutes of waiting for our food, I ask when our food was coming. She said it shouldn't be more than 20 minutes but she would check. 5 minutes later, a waiter brought our lukewarm food. It's so sad, because the taste of the food was good. I just wonder about the preparation.
One other thing, there was not toilet paper in the lady's room. My friend ask for paper and was supplied with paper napkins. An hour after, women were still requesting toilet paper. When I went in they had locked one stall and there was paper in the open stall.
No waiting, nice atmosphere. Great options on menu from super healthy grilled to super tasty fried. I'm picky about some things and the food was served straight from the kitchen - freshly prepared and hot. We had shrimp cocktail large shrimp freshly boiled and delicious. Cornflake breaded grouper and bacon wrapped scallops. Both cooked to perfection served hot with delicious side sauce. Nicely done DSM!
The food was good and our waitress tried very hard. Some restaurant basics were lacking. My reservation was at 12 noon. I arrive at 5 to 12 and the door was locked. I called and they refused to open the door until exactly 12!
I asked about parking- told, you can park across the street but you have to pay. There was no valet and no designated parking for the restaurant.
We were the only diners in the restaurant for at least an hour. It was pretty empty the entire time that we were there.
The wine list was limited. The waitress do not know how to open the bottle. She did not know how to pour it. It was brought out in a clear plastic container, not in an ice bucket as expected. They did not keep the cork and they had to find one from a bottle of red wine to re-cork it. I was not told that I could take what was left over with us. I was told by another diner and had to ask to have that done.
We had to ask for plates for our appetizers as she wanted us to use our bread plates. We asked for bread & we were told that it wa $3.00 extra if we wanted it - not per person, total.
The ads were beautiful & the food was good.
But the lack of general restaurant experience is obvious from the first encounter. If the restaurant wants to attract tourists and experienced locals, they need to significantly improve the overall restaurant experience and upgrade their wine and beverage offerings. They could start by opening the door when a guest with reservations calls. Dining should be treated as an overall experience, not just a come and get food opportunity.
The Sunday brunch at the Detroit Seafood Market (DSM) was a hit with me and my wife on August 28th. This was our first time having brunch at DSM and we were not disappointed! It was a perfect way to cap off the weekend of festivities celebrating her birthday. Thanks again! The food and the service were excellent. My only request is to Open Table, PLEASE change the reservation hours to reflect that DSM opens at Noon on Sunday, not 11 am.
When I got there, I was told there was no reservation set for me and my husband. We were able to be seated though. After waiting for my husband to park we ordered. Food was delicious except it took us over an hour to get our food. All in all, its a nice place just took for ever to get my food.
This place has definitely fallen off. This used to be our go to spot for romantic dates and special occasions. The server was young and inexperienced, it took about an hour to get our food and there was only about 4 other tables. My order was overcooked and the flavor was off. One high point was that the performer (keyboard and singing) was very good. Also there is a night club next door and the people who were sitting directly outside of the restaurant had there guns visibly showing and were very loud and rowdy.
One of the WORST places and experience I've EVER had!!! They wait was ridicules and we got food that should've Never been served, rice as crunchy as ice chips, fish that was surely microwaved and potatoes that you couldn't cut through the skin. They should've been ashamed for the quality of so-called food they served, this place is in DESPERATE need of NEW management, wouldn't recommend this place to Anyone...
I was treated to Detroit Seafood Market 2 years ago and was blown away! This was my first visit, the snow crabs were the biggest and most freshest I'd ever tasted! I'd been trying my best to return but time just hasn't allowed, until Saturday.
My husband (it was his first time) and I decided to go. I was very impressed that we could reserve online. When we arrived we were seated right away. I was a little disappointed that we weren't able to get a booth--which is the perfect setting for an intimate dinner. The host explained to us, in the future, I should specify when I call or reserve online and they will make sure a booth would be ready for me.
I ordered the King Crab, and was extremely disappointed. The portion size was great but it had no flavor--tasted as if it had been over-steamed/boiled. I had it returned and replaced with the snow crabs, and requested that I have the honors of cracking them myself (I think this is why the King Crab lost flavor). The replacement was great, however, they weren't as large as my first experience.
Our reservation was at 8:45pm, bad idea, because they begin turning the restaurant into a night club around 9:15 or so, which disturbed our nice quiet intimate meal. The moving of the chairs and tables made us feel rushed and in the way, although the friendly and accommodating staff kept assuring us that we were fine (Actions speak louder than words though). My last experience was the total opposite of my first experience.
Overall, I would still recommend the restaurant, if you take heed to all of the prerequisites. I would return and give it one more try.
Everything was just right.. Soft music.. The atmosphere our waiter was great. Very professional!! Our food was Superb!!! Fried lobster tails and the stuffed salmon was a great selection for Us! For my first time eating there,, I'll definitely be back for more!! Thanks!!
My experience at Detroit Seafood Market was Fair. I went for a girls day out the service was good and the drinks were amazing (STRONG). They had a rule that I didn't agree with which was you can only get half off drink if you drink and dine at the bar. I'm a paying customer with a party of 9 and we like to drink (lol) everyone enjoyed the food but me I had beef ribs that taste like a roast (odd right) so I sent it back and had more drinks instead. Everyone was really nice and accommodating. The location is in the heart of Downtown (good luck finding parking, especially on game day. Go Tigers!) The restaurant was very relaxed and had live entertainment which was nice. I would recommend to a friend.
Okay seriously the butter tasted like ummm well I can't even explain how disgusting it tasted. My food was cold. My bread was cold. My drink was cold. Everything was cold. Ew. I'd probably never go back. Well maybe if my girl wanted to I would. Besides that eff the place. Real review
The service was not very good - when our server finally decided to make an appearance at our table she took our drink order and appetizer order at the same time, and the appetizers came before the drinks! - and there was barely anyone there. Before the app's showed up I asked if there were peppers in the entree crab cakes and said I wouldn't get them because she said that yes, there were peppers in the crab cakes and then when the appetizer showed up (still before the drinks!!) it had red peppers in it. If I was allergic I would have died! Instead, I just had to pick out the red peppers from the mediocre $19 shrimp appetizer. Our main dishes were fine, but, especially for the price, nothing to write home about. Oh, and there were green peppers in the relish served with my fish dinner. Luckily I had asked for that on the side after ordering, but she should have said something; again, I'm not allergic (I just hate them! Yuck!), but she knew I had made a choice not to get a different dish because of the peppers. Overall it was just ok. I would have given 2 1/2 stars if that had been an option.
it's for a good reason, the atmosphere and the food is outstanding.
I had the fresh blackened grouper catch of the day, sides of garlicky green beans and old Bay fries. All of it was great and service is friendly and quick. My wife ordered the lobster Cobb salad and cleaned her plate happily. But our most pleasant surprise was the garlic emails with chorizo and a sweet wine sauce we had for starters. Out of this world.
And hey, live music on The weekend nights if that's your thing!
We went for Father's Day and the wait was about 15 minutes so not to bad with a reservation. We weren't told about that items that weren't available on the menu because they ran out which was disappointing so we had to re-look at the menu. The service was good. It was a little disappointing that they ran out of Caesar dressing for our salad. The food was great . The bathroom was not clean. The servers were noticeably struggling to get drinks out and kitchen was taking a long time. There were not a lot of people but I have had better service at this restaurant .
The words "Brunch Buffet ONLY" would have helped me decide to have Father's Day & my mother's birthday lunch elsewhere! We were not able to order from the extensive & delicious looking menu. The only food available was the buffet which was not worth $30, so me & my husband did not eat. Very disappointed.
Food was OK at best, for a seafood restaurant there was no Salmon, no shrimp for omelettes, or fried shrimp for that matter. also there was a long line for omelettes only one person was cooking. There should have been at least two stations away from each other as well as another buffet line that would have eased the wait times.
This resturant is in serious need of a strong manager. From the time we entered the restursnt which was empty, the receptionist sat us in a dark booth, there were plenty of nice open tables in the place, was told they were reserved, we ordered our food and wsited 45 minutes before food came. Did not get everything we ordered, manager said he would give ud a discount, we waited again, took matters in my own hand and went looking gor him. Long story, but needless to say, it was not worth the out of the way drive!
We went here for a party Saturday night and it was excellent and so was the food. Everything was top notch, five star. The mixed drinks were mixed perfectly and the food was the perfect accompaniment to the drinks. Service was fast and waiter knew his stuff, we will be back.
Sister took me here for an early dinner we went much earlier than our reservation and she wanted to squeeze in...apparently this is a happening place and if you don't have a reservation there is not a good chance of getting in during the rush.
After taking a look at the menu I was somewhat skeptical as I didn't quite see anything that jumped out at me so I let her just order everything for the both of us and we'd split it all.
Let me tell you...her choices were on point!
We started with the Yellowfin Tuna with some spinach dip and it was fantastic. It honestly looked a little fishy (see what I did there) but once we started digging into it the flavor was amazing.
Next we ordered two fried Lobster tails which I thought were going to come out like soggy but it was literally chunk lobster with a breading. Again...not what I would have normally ordered but turned out really good.
Finally we finished with the fried chicken sandwich. By this time we were both getting full and half of this sandwich was just what we needed to top it off. It sounds silly to say but the fried chicken sandwich at a seafood restaurant was legit. We had already eaten two seafood dishes so I didn't feel so bad...and come on, you can't go wrong with fried food.
All in all this was a really good place to eat and since we went right when they opened for dinner we were able to sneak in without a reservation.
Definitely a successful dinner in my book!
