About Deseo at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa
Showcasing imaginative Nuevo Latin cuisine, deseo’s (deseo is Spanish for “desire”) menu features a distinctive and skillfully blended combination of flavors to create delicious dishes that are bold and intriguing. This style of cooking takes traditional Latin American dishes and reinvents them using European and American cooking techniques and often non-traditional ingredients. The perfect start to dinner at deseo is to “descansar” or “relax” with a freshly created cocktail at the adjacent Muddle Bar, which specializes in blending fresh fruits (mango, pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and more) with fresh herbs (basil, tarragon, mint and more) along with your favorite spirit for the perfect pre-dinner cocktail.

Deseo at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I own a timeshare at Westin Kierland Villas, and this was our first time to dine at Deseo. It was amazing! We shared the Millionaire's tacos, the shrimp appetizer (awesome) and the short ribs. Since we are not sushi people, we probably would skip the tacos next time, but we sure would go back for the other two dishes. Service (Tony) was great, and ambiance was perfect.
Long story short. Snowed in in Chicago. The hotel was unable to accommodate us when we finally got out of Chicago. I checked in for our reservation at the hostess station and they asked whether or not we were staying at the hotel. We said no. We were then escorted to a high traffic undesirable table. Our request to move two tables over to a more quiet setting was denied. Crass.
UBERed back to our hotel. The Westin would not allow UBER drivers to pick up at the main entrance. Bush league. Welcome to 2018. Apparently they value their valet service more than the patrons.
Service was attentive. Wine list focused.
My recently bad knee made the long stairs down to the restaurant not fun. Of course, there is an elevator but it is not obvious to a first timer. The ambiance is low light, cool. We were not overly hungry....a foolish mistake. We had one starter, the passion fruit scallop ceviche. It was fabulous. We needed a second cheese bread roll to sop up the passion fruit sauce. My wife had the octopus/pork belly for her main meal, while I had the lamb rack with bright mint sauce. No dessert as we had some from the night before in our fridge. The ceviche was the star. An entire dinner of their various ceviches is our plan for our next visit.
We ate here last year and had the seafood dish for two. This year we came back with business associates and they ate the seafood dinner for two and we went with the meat. Fantastic! First we split a couple of appetizers, the million dollar lobster tacos and the lobster escabiche (ceviche), we not sure which we liked better. We had the meat plate for two, shrimp, pork, beef tenderloin and lamb. IT comes with a square hot stone that you can finish cooking or reheat your meats, it also came with a sprig of rosemary and little olive oil.
you must go !! my husband and I had a great experience at Deseo for dinner while on vacation in Scottsdale. we sat at the kitchen rail and watched the chef's prepare their masterpieces. the food was so delicious and different than your run of the mill restaurants. we chatted with sous chef Daniel who was most entertaining. we had a wonderful bottle of wine to go with dinner and shared a dessert. we would definitely go back and recommend to anyone looking for a special night out.
Biggest negative was bus person who needs better training abt a fine dining restaurant. Don’t stack dirty dishes when clearing a table. He spilled debris on the table in front of my dining partner.
Prices are up there but furniture is in need of attention. It is worn around the edges.
Chocolate cigar dessert was best part of meal.
Was hoping to be more impressed than I was
Phoenix was the last stop on our road trip so we decided it warranted a fancy night out! Deseo is a great spot located at the Westin resort in Scottsdale. My guy and I sat at the chefs counter and loved watching as they prepared the dishes. It's such a treat to see the care they take in putting together the beautiful plates of ceviche. Since we were really going for it on our last night of trip we ordered the millionaire tacos and surf y césped, which is pretty much all of the best things ever in one bite. Next up was the squash soup with apple relish and duck confit, sooooo yummy and they pour the soup over the other components table side. Always fun to watch. For our entrees I ordered the short rib and my fella got the hanger steak. The steak was cooked perfectly and the chimichurri sauce was a killer compliment to the meat. The short rib was arguably the best I've ever had! The texture was amazing, unlike any I've had previously. It was firm without being tough, like eating a great steak, yet soft and melt in your mouth like you want in a good short rib. The Chef explained it was because of the method they use to cook it. Whatever they did to it made it freaking delicious and I only want them cooked that way from now on! The service here was wonderful and attentive. It was really cool interacting and asking question about the food to the folks in the kitchen. Definitely coming back to this place the next time we're in the area!
It pains me to write this review but my favorite Scottsdale restaurant MISSED the mark totally last night, We've been many times and have never had such inferior service and overall poor food quality. No matter what the management tried to do to correct it - it just left me saying to myself "why spend all that money for the quality we just received". Our two appetizers - rainbow ceviche and wagyu and seafood on a salt block were decent. Bread is always good. Ordered the Arroz con Marisco for 2 and the others ordered the Wagyu short ribs and Halibut. The short ribs and halibut were served 10 minutes BEFORE the Arroz arrived so we insisted they eat before their food got cold. Arroz arrives in a less than adequate portion size for the money. Had to "flag down" the waiter to then request the manager to replace it. So another 20 minutes goes by and the second Arroz arrives slightly larger with basically NO rice underneath. Manager had to provide a separate rice serving and also replace the Potato Frits we ordered since they arrived COLD. We were celebrating birthdays so this "special" meal turned into a disaster. They did provide their standard birthday desserts (which are always special) and our "COLD coffee" arrived at the same time. That had to be replaced as well. When the bill came - the $68 Arroz was NOT comp'd but they did comp the potatoes and coffee! Now - what would you do? The manager tried but we all left shaking our heads!
Deseo is always a treat for us! We love sitting at "the rail" chatting with the chef and sous chefs, watching the meticulous preparations and seeing the new dishes as they are assembled. We've always enjoyed this restaurant, but the current chef is making wonderful new additions to the menu - noteworthy on this adventure was the grilled octopus and pork belly appetizer! As always, the millionaire tacos were fabulous, as was the hangar steak and the rice dish with crab and fried egg!
Started the evening with a Mambo Mango and Maccallan 12 year old in the Muddle Bar - very enjoyable. And had already decided on the Churrasco En Tabla for dinner. Four excellently prepared grilled meats of beef filet, pork tenderloin, lamb chops and giant shrimp. Came with a small hot plate to provide "fine tuning of doneness" for the meats. We enjoyed the opportunity to play a bit with our food. Finished off the evening splitting a wonderful small flan with some dark rich coffee.
As good as it can get! We had out of town company for New Year’s Eve. We’d not tried Deseo before. They served a Prix Fixe dinner. We all had different dishes and eaach was delicious! Every dish was unique without being over the top. I had a very different, but delious, sweet potatoe soup. The Wagu Beef was perfect. Our waiter was great. Helpful. Knowledgeable. Attentive. And, we loved the noise level. While the dining room was continually full, the tavles aren't crowded. We could actually hear each other.
A wonderful evenng!
Although we've always enjoyed Deseo and would likely come again, our New Years visit with two friends was a bit disappointing. The food was great, as it always is. But, I was a little disappointed to learn that it was a prix fixe menu as I'd called in previously (mostly to confirm they could accommodate food allergies) and this wasn't mentioned. My wife has a dairy and wheat food allergy and while they were able to adjust several items to work, initially there was no dessert option for her and no alternative was offered even though the price was pre-set. Granted, they did end up finding a sorbet by the end of the meal, so that helped, although it was pretty blah. We'd also been given a discount card by the hotel, and were told to use it for dinner. But, we learned after the bill came that it didn't work on New Years. In total, the bill came to well over $400 for 4 people which included three cocktails. So, while the food was good, it was way too big a price tag for the whole experience. We might still come back some day, but this evening left us a little disillusioned.
This place is 1st Class Dining! I felt like we were at the Wynn or Encore in Vegas! The quality of the fish was superb! The presentation perfect! As well, the staff is "On It". It wasn't that irritating, over the top fussiness - that I just can't stand. They just appeared as you needed them! I wish I remembered names. My bad! They deserve recognition. We had several of the ceviche's and they were awesome. Then we had a couple sashimi dishes. Equally wonderful! Then we had the Seafood dish for two. A deconstructed Paella. Oh Mama..... to die for!! We will be regulars here!!!!
An excellent dining experience once we got past the issue of the hostess trying to seat us at a round table designed for six when we were only four dining. The cuisine was exquisite and very creative — and, surprisingly, not over-the-top expensive. Go for the delicious ceviches and the fab octopus and pork belly combo appetizer. Also a winner: the wagyu skirt steak. I highly recommend Deseo.
The noise level is so extreme that you can’t even hold a conversation. The restaurant acoustics are very substandard. This restaurant is frequented by meeting and convention attendees who are frequently boisterous and inconsiderate. This lack of ambiance significantly detracts from the food service.
