About Deseo at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa
Showcasing imaginative Nuevo Latin cuisine, deseo’s (deseo is Spanish for “desire”) menu features a distinctive and skillfully blended combination of flavors to create delicious dishes that are bold and intriguing. This style of cooking takes traditional Latin American dishes and reinvents them using European and American cooking techniques and often non-traditional ingredients. The perfect start to dinner at deseo is to “descansar” or “relax” with a freshly created cocktail at the adjacent Muddle Bar, which specializes in blending fresh fruits (mango, pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and more) with fresh herbs (basil, tarragon, mint and more) along with your favorite spirit for the perfect pre-dinner cocktail.

Deseo at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa Ratings and Reviews
We love exploring tastes at Deseo. Their menu items are unusual, beautifully plated and exceptional in taste and freshness. This visit, we tried whatever the food server, Phil, suggested off of the appetizers and then had their lobster rice that my husband always has to have. Had we come earlier, we could have gotten the ceviche off the happy hour price. The rainbow ceviche was so good that we tried another ceviche and in general, every bite of food was an experience. Phil was an excellent server which made for a more perfect dining experience.
Attentive service and the food was excellent as usual. Pace was relaxed. However, we had a toddler, and he was getting quite restless towards the end. The pace may not be very suitable for a family with small children. Overall we really enjoyed our dining experience, and will definitely go back.
Nice enough, but nothing special - and expensive for the menu provided. Very few, if any, vegetarian options and the meat I had was over charred and hard on the outside. A strange Menu for a "Latin American" restaurant, which was not really to our taste and the food over "messed about with" with some strange accompaniments to the main ingredient in the dish.
Service was friendly and reasonably attentive, but a little hard to get hold of the waiter if we needed something - which we did!
A very comprehensive winelist of some excellent South American wines - but the wine by the glass options could be expanded a bit.
As for atmosphere - well nice decor and lighting, but somewhat typical of a "resort" dining room with a whole mix of people in very casual dress, as if straight out of the pool or off the golf course for some of them!
I would not recommend Deseo for a romantic date night - but chacun à son gout!
We were attracted to Deseo via a Groupon offer. We were delighted with the decor, the well informed wait staff (Brittany in the lounge, and Phil in the dining room), and the delicious meal. The standout selection of our meal was the "Strawberry Gaspacho", it was perfect for an early summer's evening.
We'll be back to celebrate a special occasion.
We go to Deseo every time we are in the area. NEVER disappoints! The staff is excellent and willing to provide helpful recommendations. Definitely recommend sitting at the "chef's rail" for a couple. An rare opportunity to watch them prepare the incredible food and interact with the staff who are always very friendly, very proud of their work and are frankly...artists! The food is always fresh and deliciously prepared.
Danny, our server, was amazing!
He surprised us bringing out birthday dessert, as he noticed the greeting card on the table. He is very observant and in tune with the customer:) Checked on us periodically. He gave us great recommendations on what we were looking for regarding our dinner options, as well as, wine options...he was spot on! Highly recommend the halibut...well seasoned and melt in your mouth! Great first time dining experience for me:)
Great food! Wonderful service! I can't believe this was my first time! What a great place to take out of town guests. Many yummy noises could be heard from every table. I was ready to go back the next day for another chocolate cigar dessert!
We don't always go back to places we try during restaurant week, but this one is a keeper!
Great food and ambiance. Service was great as well. The server mistakenly sent us the incorrect side dish when the main entree arrived. He very graciously and with genuine sincerity apologized for his mistake and sent us out the correct one along with complimentary appetizer originally brought out to us. The service is very attentive but not overbearing.
Deseo in normally an excellent experience. However, this time we started off with a rude welcome from the lady behind the desk. We were then placed by a large, noisy party. The rest is history. Not even an excellent waiter could salvage the night. We have eaten here for years and always loved the place. We will be back and hope the rude lady is gone.
The ambience is gorgeous, the artwork is definitely something to admire, along with the artist painting in the main room when you arrive was a definite jaw dropper. Server was extremely patient and knowledgeable about which wine was best for our meal choice. He was very attentive to our service and didn't rush us out the door, even considering we were the last reservation in the place. The music was great. The millionaire tacos were best thing I've ever tried and hope they never leave the menu. The presentation of food was outstanding. Our chocolate cigar was a nice touch to end our evening. Compliments to all the chefs that put quality into their food which you can taste! So happy we found this hidden gem inside this resort. Would have never known it existed if not for Groupon. They should definitely advertise more, and definitely will be recommending this restaurant to all my friends looking for a special occasion restaurant.
Thank you Deseo!
Deseo is perhaps our #1 restaurant in the PHX area. We love sitting at the rail, and the chef and staff are wonderful about describing the food they are preparing and helpful in making recommendations. We have a few favorites (millionaire tacos, hangar steak, arroz side dish) but tried a couple of new dishes this time that will make it even harder to decide next time (the hamachi and the beef tartare). The choices here are just so different from what we get elsewhere or at home, and the presentation makes your mouth water! so it's always a treat. The ambiance and service are bonuses!
Great concept and interesting menu. You start with a delicious GF roll made from yucca flour accompanied by garlic butter. Then we shared the 3 proteins (wagyu beef, pork tenderloin and jumbo shrimp) presented on "swords" and one sword of vegetables. It comes with a hot stone on which you can grill the vegetables a bit longer and heat the proteins if the cool off before you get to it. Dessert was their edible cigar and frozen cappuccino … delicious! Price was very reasonable for two people.
We started with the best and most fresh happy hour mojitos and continued into the dining room to eat (actually sat at the counter in the restaurant), great place to see the food being made! Amazing fresh authentic food, definitely will be back again! Ambiance beautiful!
Our tuna and halibut entrees were excellent. The beet salad and house salad were also quite large and very fresh ingredients. The cocktails (martini and manhattan) on the other hand were tasty but way overpriced (or should I say resort priced). Over $35 for two standard cocktails is a little greedy! But we love Deseo and would recommend highly. The outdoor seating and views are quite beautiful if the temperature is right.
Deseo leans South American leaving you with some very interesting wines and dishes. Loved the braised short ribs and the fish dish my wife enjoyed was done perfectly. We enjoyed a South American blend of 5 grapes with a jammy, low tannin palate. The meals were all reasonably low carb with substitutions of potatoes, rices and farros with asparagus. I'd definitely go back.
