The menu includes antipasti and pasta dishes such as Piatto della Casa, a housemade assortment of smoked duck, lamb prosciutto and rabbit terrine as well as Casonsei, a rustic ravioli from Bergamo filled with pork and house made sausage with a brown butter and guanciale. All the fresh pasta is made in-house. Not to be missed is Desco’s traditional Neapolitan pizze and schiacciatte prepared in a wood-fired oven. The wine list at Desco is entirely Italian, with 50 selections, 20 of which are poured by the glass. The full bar showcases classic cocktails, amaro and digestivi.

Desco is a gem. I regret that it is closing. It is a loss to Old Oakland.
After reserving a table, & arriving at the restaurant-the place was closed-very frustrating to get an email confirmation to a place that isn't even opened-we were not happy campers!!!
I generally go here & love the place.
The restaurant was closed. No notice in the window or on Open Table. The place looked shuttered, like they are closing for good.
We have often dined at Desco and had positive experiences - sadly this was not the case on my last two visits one for lunch and a week later for dinner. The quality of the food and execution of the food preparation was lacking.
The food was very good and the location and ambiance were very inviting too. Service was lacking. Our server was inattentive to the point that other staff would check/bring items. Maybe a bad night for the server but if I'm spending $350 I do expect to have some attention to my table and guest needs.
The restaurant was not open. No sign on the door. Telephone rang and rang, no voice mail.
Opened a ticket with Opentable, no response.
Restaurant says haven't been open on Sunday for some time. But schedule still shows Sunday 3-9 PM.
Extremely disappointed in both Opentable and Desco. This was supposed to be a big birthday celebration.
Makes me wonder about using Opentable or eating at Desco ever again.
A great place
Server was inattentive.
Restaurant wasn't open when we had a confirmed reservation. Very frustrating.
My first visit last weekend, and I will never return. The food was actually remarkable. The service - the worst I've experienced in years. Slow, dismissive (for example, while we were ordering the waitress just walked away - without saying a word, and when she returned no comment other than "So, have you decided yet?), and it just felt like they were too busy for us - their customers. Bad memory!
The people who work there were lovely, but the food was quite mediocre.
Way too noisy to be enjoyable. I had the kale salad and felt it was too big and dense and contained the seeds of the delicata squash, which were too hard. I liked all the other chewy nuts and seeds but the squash seeds felt like a mistake. I had the vegetarian ravioli and it was very delicious.
Nice but noisy
There have been quite a few restaurants in this location and this one will succeed. Great authentic Italian food, wonderful ambiance and service. Great find in Oakland!
Really great food and better than average prices for the quality. My only complaint is that it was a bit noisy. If you're looking for a quiet place to dine and visit with others, this isn't it. If you want good food and an energetic atmosphere, I would recommend this place.
A friend of mine who lives in Oakland recommended Desco as a pre-concert dining option.
It was an excellent choice. Food, service, neighborhood are great. Just a short BART ride and Uber from the Oakland area. Only $20 corkage when you bring your own wine. Well worth it!
Delicious food, very good service, a bit noisy. We will go back.
I went online to leave a reservation for Sunday the 29th. It let me book and early dinner at 3:15 and I even got a reservation confirmation for my dad and I. We were going to go to the Warriors game later that night. We are from the south bay and drove all the way up to the restaurant to find a hand written note that said they were closed... terrible situation! Most restaurants around there weren't going to be open until 5pm and we were supposed to eat at 3pm to make it to the game. My dad and I were without a solid dinner option and had to resort to a bar. Would not have gone had I not gotten a confirmation. Had we known it was going to be closed, we wouldn't have headed up to oakland so early and gone to another place instead. Bad business. Please fix this technical error or communicate with customers better to avoid inconvenience.
The salad was horrible and bland. My guests had different pizzas and they were fine. They add the typical 20% gratuity for six people so beware. The drinks are pricey. I wouldn’t go there again.
We love coming here. My daughter requests this place every year for her birthday dinner. The staff is warm and welcoming , the atmosphere relaxed, and the meal was delicious.
The food was ok, but the service was very poor. There should not be one server and one bus for a full restaurant. Do not skimp on service.
I work nearby and eat here semi-regularly. Tonight's meal was fantastic. The pastas - always good - were amazing. Great pesto, great ravioli with orange-ricotta filling. These are among the very best pastas I've had in the bay area, and rival what we had in Rome earlier this year.
Service was quite slow but everything else was great
This was a great spot for celebrating the end of an extended business trip to Oakland with a close business associate. The atmosphere is comfortable, the staff friendly and attentive, and the food well worth the cost. The Piatto della Casa is out of this world as are the fresh pasta dishes. The seating lasted over two hours as any good Italian meal should without any rushing from the staff. We would definitely return should our travels take us back to Oakland.
Enjoyed the service - very sweet wait staff. Good daiquiri and the wine options allow for a third or two-thirds of a bottle. Beet salad quite tasty - very beet-y! Pasta good not that notable but the pizza salsicia was absolutely delicious. Crust was thin and tasty and the homemade sausage very delicate with excellent flavor.
Coming back again for that pizza!
Great Food. Menu changes now and again which is good. Wait staff has to be better.
Unfortunately, I am on a carb restrictive diet. I am sure the pasta and pizza is good but I opted for a salad which contained arugula, almonds and chicken. It was dry and bland. Not to mention the almonds were stale.
Spaghetti dish $17, tiny, undercooked, strong raw garlic tomato sauce. OK pizza but mozzarella rubbery, hard to chew. Passable side dish. Pretty place and nice people but we came for dinner.
Really authentic Italian food served in a gorgeous setting. feels like hippest brooklyn. great italian wines, delicious beet and escarole salad and pasta. ill be back for sure.
The food was ok but when you have eaten at places like Belotti on College it makes Desco very average.
The cocktails were ok, each course a 7/10. Nothing stood out, even dessert was a little flat. Blah! It is a shame because the Decor is just beautiful, the service attentive and a great location. They need a new chef to step it one a level I think as otherwise is such a waste of such hard work to get this restaurant off the ground.
Early on, FANTASTIC!!, now fine, changed menus not as good as before, but still a neighborhood favorite...
The food was excellent and most of the service was great. However, our server wasn't very attentive and didn't seem to know how to do the job.
The hostess was great though, the food was very very tasty and the drinks were yummy. Only the server was what kept it from being an overall good experience.
The food was very good but the portions we're on the smaller side.
The service started out good and then the waiter got busy and the service slid.
I would come back.
from the tapenade they first brought to the table to the incredibly smooth texture of their panna cota, we enjoyed every bite. the service was a bit slow and our waitress could have tried on a smile to make this a perfect 5 star experience.
The charcuterie plate was lovely as were the lamb ribs - really good. The issue is the "restaurant craft". I was seated right between two other occupied tables right at the back of a pretty empty room (which never filled up), and the tables are really close to each other. I had to wait ages for a water refill too and nobody checked in on how I was doing. Fix the service, and then this'll be a great place that I can recommend.
the service here is amazing, the food also top quality
The service was terrible. We had to ask the hostess to get service. There were no apparent wait staff, just the bartender and another guy who asked us how the food was. The food was mediocre at best. The bus boy was excellent; he brought water and bread right away. No one else there seems to have any idea how to run a restaurant.
Best grilled calamari salad ever. The chef understands how to cook this tricky dish. Too long on the grill it is like rubber. This chef knows their stuff and the addition of the big white beans made this a delightful salad. Nice evening outside! Will definitely be back again!
Food was good for me and three friends. I do have a qualm about the service, though. I ordered a margarita without salt and received one with salt. No big deal really, but... I told the bartender (she delivered the first margarita, not the waiter) to please make another. She did and placed it on the counter where it sat in clear view of my eyes for a solid five minutes. Why did it take so long for the waiter to deliver it? Note: the restaurant was no more than half full. When I complained to the waiter he had some truly weird response. BAD social skills to say the least. Bottom line: there are plenty of restaurants in the East Bay where you don't have to put up with such nonsense.
Great service and super fresh pasta
