Used to be a fun place to go in Keystone. Not anymore. The service was terrible- slow and indifferent. They’ve changed the menu and not for the better. The huge room was nearly empty which added to the overall depressing atmosphere.
What a loss. Our family looked forward to this place whenever we were in keystone. But not again.
Great experience. Expensive, but unique and fun experience!
We enjoyed the gondola ride up. It was a very unusual way to arrive at a restaurant. The food was good. We enjoyed the variety. We took home enough leftovers for lunch the next day. The entertainers played polka's we requested from our childhood days. Loved them. The ride down was cold but it was beautiful seeing the lights from the night skiing. We would recommend this as an unusual date night for anyone........
This is very over priced for what it is. Also, taking the second gondola ride was confusing.
The salmon was not worth the price. Very small and thin.
A "must do". The food was plentiful and fabulous! What's not to love about cheese fondue (we did the gouda combo) and home made bread? Next came salad and then we did the chicken and beef combo. To top it off we sampled the s'mores milk chocolate. Despite being so full, the food was so scrumptious, we just had to eat a little bit more. Regretfully (because we couldn't put any more in our stomaches) and happily we took some home for leftovers. Loved the live music and the service was top notch.
Truly an experience in dining! Cheese fondue to start & then a "cook your own" meat at your table. Wait staff are dressed in costume & there are strolling musicians through-out the large lodge with a roaring fireplace. We enjoyed the beautiful trip up the gondola to the top of the mountain where the restaurant is located.
Had a blast and was a unique experience. A little pricey but I understandable so considering you are having Fondue on top of a mountain. The whole experience was wonderful!
Our collection of friends from various parts of the world gathered to celebrate the birthday of a very special friend. The gondola rides were fun in the evening. The atmosphere, music and general ambience were lovely. Food was expensive and ordinary. Staff was friendly but the service was less than impressive.
There we definitely high points. The venue is very nice considering it is a cafeteria by day. And the quality of the food was very high. But the value for a family of five was just not there. Despite ordering the vegetarian version- which was essentially crudités- they charged $69 per person, even for a 12 year old (which they later reduced to a kid’s price at our request). The cheese fondue portion was tasty but small for 5 and they did not bring the sauces for the main course. We got plenty to eat and the chocolate fondue was fantastic. The family also enjoyed the experience, including the gondola ride, but I felt the meal was overpriced.
Usually visit once a year for family, friends, or special occasions... authentic Swiss dining experience in a high alpine setting. Book an early reservation so you can see the mountains on the gondola ride up, take pictures of the sunset from atop the mountain. Book early in your stay in case they need to reschedule your reservation another night due to high winds and the gondolas close.
Gondola freezing, quality of food very poor, restaurant very expensive considering what we got for our money
EXTREMELY Expensive for very little portions. We used to go here years ago when they would give you options of meats, and large portions of veges, bread and fruit. There was two strawberries cut into 4 pieces to share amoung 4 people! The food was just decent, of course the views on the gondola are amazing, but we live here and see these amazing views everyday! We spent over $714 for 6 people, and only 2 had drinks. The lunch food at Abasin beats this anyday!!
The gondola rides, view, and venue were truly amazing. Service was good throughout the ride up and during dinner with helpful lift operators, even a much needed blanket. My only issue was with the very heavy use of rosemary across most of the main course items, from the potatoes and sausage on the side - to the beaf and chicken that you grill at the table. Several in our dining party (all adults) found the rosemary to be overwhelming. Everything else was delicious!
Fantastic quality food and the gondola ride to get to the restaurant is spectacular! Service was average/ good, and ambiance for a large crowd good. For romantic or more intimate group, ambiance could be a little better.
Live music, fun meal. Quite pricey but that’s what you get for being at he top of the mountain. Great for a celebration
I took my son for a fun experience per recommendation. The concept was neat but the food was mediocre and wasnt worth thr amount spent. We could've enjoyed a very nice steak dinner for this price. Service was slow and we waited 10-15min per course. The whole experience took over 3 hours for 2 people and we brought half home. Meat was flavorful but tough.
The ride up to the restaurant on two gondolas was great. Blankets are provided, it's quiet and dark. Our kids loved the cooking their own meat. The standard chicken and steak were both excellent. We also added on shrimp which was good. Wagyu tri tip didn't taste all that different from the standard steak. Would have like cheese course to be a little larger. Dessert, on the other hand, was more than enough. We had the flaming turtle which was a lot of fun and quite delicious. Live music and chicken dance were fun too. It's expensive, but it's an experience. We are very glad we went.
Wonderful place. Ambiance was incredible and getting there was such an adventure during a winter storm.
We went out to celebrate my husbands birthday with a group of friends. I was told by the manager we can stay until 11. Yet from 9pm the staff was pretty much rushing us out. The instructions for fondue were not provided so we waited with platters of stuff not knowing what to do. The server offended my husband, who is from Argentina, saying that all the busboys there are from Argentina that’s why they don’t know what their doing. Obviously she had no way of knowing where he’s from, but innapropriate comment. I was told by the manager that they have a special dessert for the birthday person, yet we never received it. The staff was literally vacuuming next to us while we were still eating. The best part was the live band consisting of accordion, banjo and a bass and the costumes were cool. Food was ok, not worth 200$ per couple.
The experience was fun, to get 2 gondolas and see the amazing view, but the food was not that great, the cheese fondue was terrible but the rest of the food was ok. I really like that they had a musical group that made more pleasurable the stay.
The “oompah” band that strolled from table to table was a great addition to the ambience of a true Fondue restaurant. Loved the huge fireplace! A very fun trip by Gondola, especially at night, and the blankets the lift operators provided were very much appreciated! We would definitely go again!
Cannot recommend this restaurant. Very expensive and not much value. I expect much more at this price level.
Awesome fondu dinner with the family. We did a birthday party there
Was a fun and different experience. Service was excellent.
Very fun experience for our families and kids. From the gondola ride through the entire meal experience, the service is amazing and memorable.
How often do you get to ride a gondola (or 2) to the top of a mountain and have an awesome fondue dinner? If you're my family, not very often! It was a great experience. Sure, it's pricey, but it's also different, and tasty, and fun. And so much food! My family, including 2 almost adult kids, loved it. Der Fondue was very good about catering to my vegetarian daughter as well as the rest of us meat-eaters. Very memorable evening, in a good way!
We had reservations. We were seated on time. 2 hours later we still hadn’t gotten all of the courses of our meal. The burner they put the meat on fell over. They had to replace the burner and the meat. We were so frustrated we didn’t even stay for dessert. We weren’t the only ones who had problems that night. The manager tried to make it right but it was a bad experience. For the money I definitely would NOT recommend!
Great experience, but kid just nibble at the food, so it was VERY pricey for the experience.
This is a special experience if you are in the Keystone, Breckenridge, Silverthorne or Dillon area.
Be prepared to take the gondola, walk a short distance over the snow, and then take a second gondola for a 20-minute trip each way to the restaurant to/from Keystone base village.
The visit was extremely disappointing. We have been to Fondue Chessel on three other occasions; the last being two years ago, so we knew it would be expensive. However, it has greatly declined in service, ambiance, and overall enjoyment. The amount of money spent cannot be justified. We noticed a there were no where near the amount of people in the restaurant as years past. Der Fondue is going to have to up their game if they are going to continue. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it to anyone for any occasion.
The food is average, service average or below....but being on top of a mountain eating and the experience of getting there is very fun. I would only do it again for that reason. Overpriced
We tried this on New Year's Eve and found it to be a fun experience! Riding the gondola without our ski gear on was a whole different experience. We dressed quite warmly but it was still chilly so bundle up! The fondue was excellent. I am a vegetarian and I thoroughly enjoyed the vegetarian option. The veggies were nicely cut and there was a wide variety. The manager on duty checked in on us several times during our meal. We also enjoyed the live music!
DerFondueChessel is an experience! So unique! Loved the fondues and loved cooking at our table. We had our young adult sons and it was special watching them cooking. We were there for New Years Eve and it delivered a very special evening. Loved the wandering musicians...they engaged the patrons. Lots of fun. Everyone who is in Keystone must go to DerFondueChessel at least once!
My family has been coming here for the past 15 years for New Year’s Eve and unfortunately quality of the dining experience has declined in recent years. I know the menu is limited by design on New Years but this year was especially disappointing. It’s still a unique evening but it’s an expensive outing for just “okay” food.
My family and I had the best time. From the gondola trips to the restaurant to the welcoming staff to the delicious food, we felt well cared for. We had so much fun. The food was delicious.
Great place to celebrate with friends. Food and service were wonderful! Be prepared to eat a lot!
Travelling to the restaurant was the most exciting part of the evening, riding in 2 gondolas although cold, was a lot of fun! Our server, John(one of the GM's, who I believe was filling in for someone) was attentive but continually kept forgetting our requests as he was delegating. The food was excellent, however not quite enough. My husband was most looking forward to the raclette, having lived in Switzerland and we were given 4 tiny pieces of raclette cheese even though we were a party of 5. We eventually got more after we asked for the 3rd time but overall it was a fun experience.
This is the second time we’ve been to this restaurant. The value for the cost and quality of food is not what it used to be. They were out of 2 items we requested and we were at an early dinner seating. The carrots during the cheese fondue part were not fresh. You are paying $100 plus per person for crudités, ceaser salad, more chicken than sirlion and potato wedges. This is without upgrading on the items which we felt were pushed by the staff. The chocolate, what everyone waits for, was again disappointing. We asked for a little more pound cake that never came. Yes, the gondola ride and the scenic views are beautiful but you don’t need to pay the dinner prices to see them. This is listed as a casual dining experience. It is casual only in attire not in cost especially if you’re bringing children.
