Depot Hotel Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Food was very poor. Atmosphere was charming and service good but quality of the food was terrible. Sauces bland. Sausage appetizer was like a Jimmy Dean patty from Safeway with a Grey Poupon mustard smear and a few dried apricots. We came for the crab cannelloni and the pasta was nearly raw.
Wow" great ambiance , Friendly people, helpful, gives their undivided attention. Right out of Italy.
Food was outstanding, we had the Fresh Salmon and the Lasagne , best we every have
Experienced. Lasagne was straight out of Italy , fresh noodles, ricotta was fresh, and the sauce was medium thickness and it wasn't over backed. Fresh Salmon just melts in your month, cooked to perfection.
Almost like eating at an Italian villa - outdoor poolside seating, a fountain in the pool, lights strung all around. This was a repeat visit and, again, a delightful experience. The menu contained 5 pasta items, 5 pizza items and 6 main entrees, enough for every taste. Both of us enjoyed delicious veal scaloppine with mashed potatoes, green beans and lots of mushrooms. Of special note was the extensive and unusual antipasto menu - I enjoyed the cotechino (grilled pork sausage, poached apricots and cherries. Also a varied dessert menu. Great service and easy parking.
Although the Food was delicious and We were seated at a nice table overlooking the pool/fountain, the service was very disappointing. We were definitely the forgotten table. The waiter took our order promptly but it quickly went downhill after that. Our salads came but the waiter forgot to bring us our wine. We couldn't even find him to remind him and I had to get up from the table to let the hostess know. He apologized for forgetting but once he brought the wine, He came by once to ask us if our meal was ok and we didn't see much of him after that. We had to refill our own wine glasses throughout dinner and waited way longer than we should have to have our plates removed once we were done. The worst part is that it was my mom's 92nd birthday and he never acknowledged it, even though we saw several people around us getting served their dessert with a candle and a Happy birthday wish. My mother was disappointed and I was annoyed. When the service is bad, it pretty much ruins the whole experience.
Service was not great, seemed rushed and understaffed. Food was just ok. Had to return burnt pizza but server did so with no problem. I was a little disappointed by the overall experience and don't know if I will visit again. Restaurant is a typical spot we bring guests in from out of town, think I may search for the next spot.
The Depot Hotel is the perfect place for a casual dinner. The wonderful outdoor patio was just perfect for a fall evening. The service was exceptional and the varied menu a delight.
However, though I have several favorites I would heartily recommend their chicken, eggplant or
osso buco. Enjoy
We chose this restaurant when we stayed in Sonoma for the weekend. We have been to Sonoma many times and never ate here. The outdoor courtyard is lovely and the tables surround what use to be a swimming pool however It was transformed into a lovely "fountain".
The server was attentive and the food was reasonably priced, quite tasty and not overly "foody" as some of the wine country restaurants tend to be.
I would absolutely eat here again.
I had not been to Depot Hotel for some time. My other friends suggested it, so I agreed. I would definitely return and will spread the word. Our server (sorry, forget his name, alas!) was outstanding. Not only was he helpful with the menu and answering our questions but he realized we needed "catch up" time and did not rush us. The pours of wine were very generous and prices reasonable (for Sonoma certainly) I ordered the salmon rillette and it was outstanding: salmon, scallops...served with a small green salad. We were seated poolside and spent a lovely 2 hours, enjoying ourselves, the food, the ambiance.
We had an unforgettable meal at the Depot Hotel. Our server was beyond personable and the food was excellent.
The ambiance of sitting around a beautiful bubbling fountain under the lights in the courtyard was unforgettable. We actually had a rough day of travel, airports and rental cars and we we got to dinner in Sonoma that evening - it was all worth it once we were sat down for dinner
Highly recommend Also very good value.
Would love to come back someday soon
Sonoma normally results in something to eat on the square. We ventured off the beaten path based on our daughter's recommendation. What a find!! Food is phenomenal, ambiance is second to none. Wine selection-off the charts. We will not forget this gem! Please, don't go because I don't want to fight you for reservations!!! ;)
After the short walk a block north of the plaza, and you're wondering if you're going the right direction, this little gen is hidden away in an old hotel. Seating is outdoors on a beautifully landscaped open air patio surrounding a pool. Lights fill the sky and all the trees for a truly beautiful ambience. We had the Bolig near and the lamb entrees- both very good (the chef wrote down the ingredients in the bolognese), all finished with a lovely Barolo. Put this on your list for Sonoma restaurants.
If it weren't for the yellow jackets and flies, this would be a beautiful place for a meal. At one point will I was sitting back waiting for the yellow jackets feasting on my pasta to be done only to have the "bus lady" shoe them away and away was directly at ME!
The food itself was good and they also start you off with a huge chunk of fresh sourdough and nice soft butter.
