It was awesome! Great food! Great atmosphere!
We enjoyed a nice Easter Sunday supper here. Other places were closed after the rush for Easter Brunch but the Depot was not crowded. We saw some groups and small families dining. The starters and pasta were delicious. The risotto was not what I am used to but it was full of tasty seafood. The chef takes pride in his bread and it was heavenly, served with butter, not olive oil. I had the cannoli for dessert and it was perfect. Creamy with bits of ciitron and a cinnamon flavored pastry.
Beautiful place to celebrate Easter over a delicious 3-course brunch!
crab canelloni was superb. salad unusual but with fresh local watercress, endive, marcona almonds and the tiramisu outstanding. - Wonderful way to spend Easter.
Easter Sunday Brunch was so special here. Wonderful outdoor seating (it was my first time at this restaurant) with very lovely service. Food was delicious and beautifully plated.
Was surprised that OpenTable did not say that there was a limited menu for Easter. So with tip it was $120 for two people. My berry salad could have used more berries and a lot less ricotta. The ricotta was more bitter than unflavored yoghurt. The few drops of honey didn’t do enough to offset the bitterness. My mom’s salad was better. For the entree she had the salmon with mushrooms and really enjoyed it. I had the crab cannoli and there was a lot of crab, a bit of cartilage and not much flavor.
Loved our Easter Brunch outdoors near the pool/fountain! Poosan, our waiter, was exceptional! He was efficient and very friendly. Every bite of food was wonderful! We had the poached salmon dish and the boneless short rib hash, the wonderful berries with ricotta and also the salad with blue cheese, marcona almonds, and dried apricots. We enjoyed a mimosa with a generous amount of champagne, and the tiramisu and limoncello cake were unbeatable. This is a must return every year!! The fixed price of $45 was also very reasonable considering the food, ambience and service on a holiday.
The Depot Hotel is a beautiful location for lunch or dinner. The outdoor patio is perfect during nice weather. We went for Easter Brunch and it was wonderful. The varied menu was delicious and the price extremely reasonable. They offered you Champagne, Mimosa or orange juice to start. My husband had the short rib hash and I had the salmon. Needless say, there was nothing left on either plate! The staff was extraordinary. The only thing missing was the Easter Bunny!!!!
Easter Brunch at Depot Restaurant was just wonderful. Attentive, professional service, a beautiful dining space in a lovely historic building, sunny outdoor seating for those who wish it, and delicious food. What's not to like?! We will definitely be back.
This restaurant is always consistently good. Quality food that isn't pretentious. I have taken friends and business partners here over the years and had my wedding reception here 25 years ago. It will always be a special place to me!
We had a lovely time. The ambiance, food, and service were all good.
Great food, wine and atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Was disappointed with the lunch menu... their dinner menu is much better. Only two salads and one sandwich.
We were having a getaway weekend to enjoy Sonoma Square and enjoy tasting at our favorite winery Highway 12. They recommended the Depot Hotel and we are glad they did. I had the venison which was prepared perfectly and my wife enjoyed her pasta. Portions were generous and wait staff was very friendly. Looking forward to our next visit!!
A hidden jewel off the main plaza. Food was excellent as was the service. My friend and I both had the Dungeness Crab Canelloni. Yum! Only comment is that a side of asparagus would have added some color (and vegetable) to the otherwise white dish. But overall, we were both pleasantly surprised as it was our first time at the restaurant and we are both locals.
Our server, Michelle, made this meal a very, very special event. My husband has severe food allergies. Michelle and the kitchen worked together to get sides with his meal that were perfect. When I mentioned that I was not a wine drinker but preferred vodka, she found an alcohol that tasted sort of like a vodka even though it was a low alcohol content drink. At the end of our meal, Michelle and the kitchen surprised my husband with a fruit plate set up as a birthday cake with a candle since his food allergies do not let him eat dessert. And, yes, the food is excellent. The hostess is charming. It is worth the drive to the town of Sonoma just to eat here.
The food was very good, they had an option for venison which I chose. Very good.
Attentive staff and a good recommendation for wine and desert
Had a delightful dinner Sunday.
Nice to find a quiet restaurant off the square.
Never disappointed at the Depot.
Food was good. The service was amazing. They split up the appetizer into two dishes for me and my wife when we didn't even request it. Overall, a very nice experience!
Old charm Italian restaurant.
Enjoyed a great dinner. There were 6 of us seated at a round table with a view of the backyard . We never felt rushed and service was excellent. Our water glasses were always being refilled. We try to eat here whenever we are spending a weekend in Sonoma.
Very good experience, great customer service
Overall, it was an awesome choice. Service was a little slower than I would like but our waiter made up for it so it was ok. It was also looking like a busy night so I understand. Try the filet of beef!! That sauce though...
Definitely will come back
Always a pleasant experience, dine here frequently. Northern Italian regular items, i.e, tonorelli, veal, pizza, but usually a seasonal dish crab canelloni. Salads fresh, local and
Valentines Day at The Depot Hotel was great! Excellent value for the food, service and ambiance. A pre-set menu, but with choices in 3 out of 4 courses. All were well prepared; have to pay particular mention to the Filet of Beef. Good size portion and prepared to my “rare” request. I was surprised because rare is never rare in other restaurants. If in Sonoma for any occasion, even for everyday dining I recommend The Depot Hotel.
Valentine's Day dinner from special menu. Very good food and service.
We were a party of 6 for dinner at 7pm. We asked to be moved due to the high volume of noise in our area. After we moved a party of 10 was seated behind us; they were using the "F" word and after we asked them to quite down they said they wouldn't. The other 2 tables around us complained to not only our server, Russell, but also the manager on duty. One table was moved, the other asked if they could be comped for dessert because of the loud party. Server told them it is always loud, so "no". If the 16% tip was not already on our bill, we would not have left any tip as his attitude was extremely poor. One of our guests is friends of the owner and intends to call and complain. Not sure we will come back any time soon.
We chose this restaurant because it had great reviews and seemed like a good place to celebrate a birthday. We were seated near a six-person wedding party, which was drunk and incredibly loud so we couldn't carry on a conversation. We talked to the host about it, but they said they couldn't do anything. Their inability to manage the situation meant that the three other tables in the immediate area (including ours) had a miserable time. With some pushing we finally got a new table. The food was OK at best. I ordered a prosecco but got some other bubbly drink that did not taste good at all. One person at our table ordered a salad that was supposed to have almonds on it, and there were none. Another person ordered a seafood meal, and the beards were not removed from the mussels. That person later was sick - not sure if it was related. We topped off the meal with dessert, which was terrible. Service was slow. I would never return here.
Always a special place, and LOVE the crab canneloni. Still a bit cold, so had to sit inside, but when it warms up the back terrace is just simply wonderful. And staff are always fun.
We were seated across from the open door to the kitchen. Not a good sign. The noise level in the room was very loud. And our halibut was way too dry!!! Whereas the phyllo puff was
too moist and sticky!! There's plenty room for improvement.
One of my guests had your crab filled cannelloni and loved it.
Another of my guests had the veal scallopini and thought it was great. As was the prosciutto
with brie pizza.
The Depot Hotel has been our favorite "night out" restaurant for 30 years! We first experienced the hospitality and great food of Gia and Mike just after we moved into Sonoma, and have returned many times over the years. If the occasion was a cozy night out for the two of us, or our daughter's wedding reception for 60+ guests, the quality of the food and the hospitality has never varied. The nine year old boy who bussed dishes early on is now the 37 year old chef, keeping the high standards of his parents! We'll be back! John and Peggy Bell.
Great little hidden treasure off the square. Food is great. The old hotel still has tons of character. Even though it was raining the still had the fountain on in the pool great touch.
We were referred to this charming hotel restaurant by two wine experts at Ravenswood Winery. Though it was a rainy Sunday evening, there were a number of people dining there. We were seated in the back of the restaurant overlooking a lovely patio and pool. Our server David was terrific. An older man who has been a server there for years, was informative and engaging, with a lovely dry sense of humor. David greatly enhanced our visit.
We started with a fresh Dungeness crab cannelloni with a cream sauce that was absolutely delicious. I had a bowl of butternut squash with farro soup that was like a minestrone. It was full of flavor, hearty and very satisfying. A meal with bread unto itself.
We chose the veal scallopini as our main course off an extensive menu. Rich in flavor, the brown sauce with mushrooms over the cut it with your fork tender veal was perfectly done. It paired perfect with a bottle of Buena Vista Pinot Noir we brought with us. Corkage was $15. Their wine list is extensive if you choose not to bring your own.
A varied dessert menu beckoned afterward. We had a warm limoncello cake and a cannoli, with a cappuccino to wash it down with. The cake was light, moist and mouthwateringly delicious. A perfect mix of sweet and tart lemon goodness. The cannoli was old school Italian perfection. Impressive!
A glass of a lovely port put a cap on a wonderful meal. The damage for the two of us was $100 plus tax and gratuity. That includes the $15 corkage charge.
The Depot is now on our favorites list. Highly recommended!
Always welcoming and cordial. Excellent service with well-perpared food.
Close to the plaza but still with a quiet oasis feel (pool and fountain and all) in a lovely old stone building with open fireplace. I had perhaos the best New York strip steak I’ve ever had as well as a nice scallop appetizer. Certainly worth a visit - we’ll be back.
The Depot is simply one of our favorite restaurants in Sonoma. Gia and Jamie are welcoming and inviting at your arrival and the staff carries on with casual yet attentive service during your meal. The food is excellent whether it be a pizza, tagliatelle or (my favorite) the Orchard salad.
Request a table by the fireplace in the wintertime and outside by the fountain in the summer and fall months. You will not be disappointed. The Depot is a special place in the heart of wine country.
This is a quaint restaurant with a cozy ambience. I had the black pasta with seafood which was delicious. My husband really enjoyed his grass fed steak. Dessert was unfortunate - the chef added orange zest to a cannoli. Being a bit of a purist when it comes to Italian desserts, I was disappointed and couldn’t eat it. Service was great except for the staff who rolled cutlery in the dining room right behind a table of guests and then ate there. Overall, great option when visiting!
We had our anniversary dinner here. The meal was superb and the dessert was amazing. The service was great. A definite “must try” if you’re in Sonoma.
We loved the crab cannelloni! We split a Caesar salad and the portions were unusually small though delicious. We also loved the tiramisu and the warm lemon cake...both delicious.
Charming, landmark restaurant offers indoor/outdoor dining, delicious meals with fresh ingredients and great service.
It is our favorite place in Sonoma.
