Depot Hotel Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Valentines Day at The Depot Hotel was great! Excellent value for the food, service and ambiance. A pre-set menu, but with choices in 3 out of 4 courses. All were well prepared; have to pay particular mention to the Filet of Beef. Good size portion and prepared to my “rare” request. I was surprised because rare is never rare in other restaurants. If in Sonoma for any occasion, even for everyday dining I recommend The Depot Hotel.
We were a party of 6 for dinner at 7pm. We asked to be moved due to the high volume of noise in our area. After we moved a party of 10 was seated behind us; they were using the "F" word and after we asked them to quite down they said they wouldn't. The other 2 tables around us complained to not only our server, Russell, but also the manager on duty. One table was moved, the other asked if they could be comped for dessert because of the loud party. Server told them it is always loud, so "no". If the 16% tip was not already on our bill, we would not have left any tip as his attitude was extremely poor. One of our guests is friends of the owner and intends to call and complain. Not sure we will come back any time soon.
We chose this restaurant because it had great reviews and seemed like a good place to celebrate a birthday. We were seated near a six-person wedding party, which was drunk and incredibly loud so we couldn't carry on a conversation. We talked to the host about it, but they said they couldn't do anything. Their inability to manage the situation meant that the three other tables in the immediate area (including ours) had a miserable time. With some pushing we finally got a new table. The food was OK at best. I ordered a prosecco but got some other bubbly drink that did not taste good at all. One person at our table ordered a salad that was supposed to have almonds on it, and there were none. Another person ordered a seafood meal, and the beards were not removed from the mussels. That person later was sick - not sure if it was related. We topped off the meal with dessert, which was terrible. Service was slow. I would never return here.
We were seated across from the open door to the kitchen. Not a good sign. The noise level in the room was very loud. And our halibut was way too dry!!! Whereas the phyllo puff was
too moist and sticky!! There's plenty room for improvement.
One of my guests had your crab filled cannelloni and loved it.
Another of my guests had the veal scallopini and thought it was great. As was the prosciutto
with brie pizza.
The Depot Hotel has been our favorite "night out" restaurant for 30 years! We first experienced the hospitality and great food of Gia and Mike just after we moved into Sonoma, and have returned many times over the years. If the occasion was a cozy night out for the two of us, or our daughter's wedding reception for 60+ guests, the quality of the food and the hospitality has never varied. The nine year old boy who bussed dishes early on is now the 37 year old chef, keeping the high standards of his parents! We'll be back! John and Peggy Bell.
We were referred to this charming hotel restaurant by two wine experts at Ravenswood Winery. Though it was a rainy Sunday evening, there were a number of people dining there. We were seated in the back of the restaurant overlooking a lovely patio and pool. Our server David was terrific. An older man who has been a server there for years, was informative and engaging, with a lovely dry sense of humor. David greatly enhanced our visit.
We started with a fresh Dungeness crab cannelloni with a cream sauce that was absolutely delicious. I had a bowl of butternut squash with farro soup that was like a minestrone. It was full of flavor, hearty and very satisfying. A meal with bread unto itself.
We chose the veal scallopini as our main course off an extensive menu. Rich in flavor, the brown sauce with mushrooms over the cut it with your fork tender veal was perfectly done. It paired perfect with a bottle of Buena Vista Pinot Noir we brought with us. Corkage was $15. Their wine list is extensive if you choose not to bring your own.
A varied dessert menu beckoned afterward. We had a warm limoncello cake and a cannoli, with a cappuccino to wash it down with. The cake was light, moist and mouthwateringly delicious. A perfect mix of sweet and tart lemon goodness. The cannoli was old school Italian perfection. Impressive!
A glass of a lovely port put a cap on a wonderful meal. The damage for the two of us was $100 plus tax and gratuity. That includes the $15 corkage charge.
The Depot is now on our favorites list. Highly recommended!
Close to the plaza but still with a quiet oasis feel (pool and fountain and all) in a lovely old stone building with open fireplace. I had perhaos the best New York strip steak I’ve ever had as well as a nice scallop appetizer. Certainly worth a visit - we’ll be back.
The Depot is simply one of our favorite restaurants in Sonoma. Gia and Jamie are welcoming and inviting at your arrival and the staff carries on with casual yet attentive service during your meal. The food is excellent whether it be a pizza, tagliatelle or (my favorite) the Orchard salad.
Request a table by the fireplace in the wintertime and outside by the fountain in the summer and fall months. You will not be disappointed. The Depot is a special place in the heart of wine country.
This is a quaint restaurant with a cozy ambience. I had the black pasta with seafood which was delicious. My husband really enjoyed his grass fed steak. Dessert was unfortunate - the chef added orange zest to a cannoli. Being a bit of a purist when it comes to Italian desserts, I was disappointed and couldn’t eat it. Service was great except for the staff who rolled cutlery in the dining room right behind a table of guests and then ate there. Overall, great option when visiting!
overall very good. waiter was awesome. very loud, hard to have a conversation. second course one of us did not get scallops and risotto, just fried shrimp and not told that was happening as to change to a different option. chocolate torte was out of this world delicious.
We came to The Depot for our 5th wedding anniversary based upon the posted ratings. We were greeted kindly and seated immediately. They had a wonderful table awaiting us. The server, Michele, was simply stupendous. She was very attentive and helpful, frequently checking on us to make certain that we were satisfied and to see if there was anything else that we needed.
The menu was wonderful with many choices. In addition, the specials of the day were equally superb. We started with the salumi plate, which was excellent. Very fresh and extremely good. My wife moved onto the special of halibut while I wanted to go for the tagliatelle. Sadly they were not serving it that evening so instead I had a wonderful rigatoni, which I would highly recommend.
After dinner we moved onto the deserts. We split a cannoli, which was to die for, and a lie of limoncello cake, also extremely good.
We will definitely be back because this was simply a wonderful find. The service was exceptional and the food was exquisite. I highly recommend The Depot .
We discovered this resto about a year ago and it's become one of our favorites. The service is always very good, friendly without imposing. The food is wonderful although the menu choices don't change a lot. The Dungeness crab cannelloni is a great choice with a huge amount of crabmeat. We often share salads to start - there are always several delicious options. Desserts are excellent - the limoncello cake is light and lovely. The wine list is decent with reasonably priced choices. A place to love.
My husband and I were visiting Sonoma and looking for a moderately priced restaurant for dinner that was also walking distance from the plaza. This was recommended from a blog we frequent when visiting wine country. We were not disappointed, however the food was not as good as the place we went the night before so it was hard to compare! Maybe needed a bit more flavor (we had veal pasta and margharita pizza, also salad to start).
The Caesar salad was very skimpy and minus dressing. The mashed potatoes and the veal scallopini were lukewarm. Sent them back once and they still came back lukewarm and mediocre-at-best . The only good thing on the plate were the brussel sprouts. Am only rating my meal. Friends said their crab cannelloni and the ham and cheese sandwich were good, but I doubt it! I've definitely had better meals at this place.
Food was very poor. Atmosphere was charming and service good but quality of the food was terrible. Sauces bland. Sausage appetizer was like a Jimmy Dean patty from Safeway with a Grey Poupon mustard smear and a few dried apricots. We came for the crab cannelloni and the pasta was nearly raw.
