Departure Restaurant and Lounge Ratings and Reviews
The server was fantastic, I asked about the chefs flight, what I found was the 12 course flight did not appeare to have a chefs attention as the food was at random! I know the menu designed was mythotical but lacked execution. I can not recommend this place to my friends. We care about the food more than the atmosphere or design. I suggest if the Chef is not present that servers do not recommend the chefs flight! I paid over $300 for what? I wanted to be wowed and the dessert that came out was not quite fitting the money spent.
I have been to Departures at least 6 times in the past 4-5 years and chose it again for a business meeting of 4. I had held Departures in such high regard that I had even given gift cards from the restaurant to friends and family.
We ordered a total of 8 selections from the menu but many of dishes unfortunately were not on par with the culinary excellence that I had previously experienced. The cocktails however were well-crafted.
Unfortunately, in view of the changes experienced in the dining experience, I do not think that I will be returning.
My wife and I where there for our anniversary. Due to a severe traffic hold up we were late for our reservation at 6:15 on 13 Jan 2017. They were nice enough to hold our reservation and waited for about a 30 min before being seated. Once we were seated in the location near the balcony, about ten minutes after we sat a party of 20 women sat in the couches area. My wife and I could barely hold a conversation due to the loud talking and screaming. My wife and I have been coming to Departure for many years and we always come on our anniversary. If the front new such a large group was going to be seated then they should of advices us and we would of waited for another table.
It was my dad's birthday. They couldn't spring for a dessert with a candle and our bill was over $100. Kinda stingy.
The wings were delicious. The sausage fried rice was also yummy.
I think they're going for fine dining in there, at least the prices are. But the paint next to us was peeling and it was super loud. There's a prix fixe menu for $105 PER PERSON. I'm happy to let this place schill to out of town businessmen with expense accounts who look like Steve Mnuchin. This isn't really "Portland". More like a New York wannabe.
While this place had a great ambiance, great service, and great value for money, it was nothing special. Some of the dishes were good, some were just ok, and nothing was amazing or in the least bit innovative. There are much better places serving this type of food for the same price in Portland.
Outstanding. We went two days before Christmas and it was extremely busy but they were able to accommodate our daughter who came with us for a party of 3. Peking duck special was unbelievable and I highly recommend if available. Ben, our waiter, probably provided the best service I have ever had and I have been to a lot of restaurants. The $80 tip was well worth it.
Departures has a vibe like no other in Portland. When you arrive you think you might be in line for Space Mountain at Disneyland but the restaurant itself is both hip and relaxed despite the bustle going on. Be sure to check out the outside patio and views. All in all, very memorable time!
