Departures has fantastic Asian fusion food with an appealing "Jetsons" modern ambiance that could be tacky, but they pull it off. Fantastic views.

Mediocre food; High prices. Was led very very astray by OpenTable, TripAdvisor, and google with this place that claimed it to be a top spot in Portland. We were staying at the hotel, so it was convenient, but we really regretted it...one of the items we got was an absurd $21 crab and sausage fried rice which didn't include ANY visible crab, and only a few pieces of sausage. The rice was bland. Can actually get tastier and more appropriately priced food at PF Changs. Good staff, fun atmosphere, and supposed good views (we didn't see any) but do not go there for food.

Great drinks in a fun energetic atmosphere. The food however was unpolished. The wings were too sweet. The Mongolian beef was over salted and the chili chicken was quite hot. We enjoy flavorful food but these dishes lacked balance. The power greens salad however was delightful. This could be a 5 star restaurant but the last two times we were there, we were disappointed with the food. Drinks are well constructed so we had a good time. Just wouldn’t rush back if looking for a great meal.

Way over priced and not at all friendly. Went here for a special occasion and they ignored us. Food was tiny portions and not at all worth the value. Don’t bother.

Overall very pleased, my only gripe is with the cocktails. I ordered a gin and tonic and it was mostly soda and ice. Expressed my preferences to the server and the bar tender made proper adjustments. I ordered 2 more after that.

Every bite was beyond delicious. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful for our first time visit. Though portions were noted to be small to average, we found the 2 we each ordered plus the chicken wings to share to be more than ample. A little expensive but worth it.

For the price, location, and atmosphere, the food should be inventive, interesting, and/or exceptionally good. I thought l it would be at least be fusion. It was a pan Asian menu for hipster gringos at fancy hotel prices. It left me dreaming of the G-Mart. All show, no go.

Though we love Departures each time we stay at The Nines, this time it was. Stage, not great. Whole fish overdone, edemame too salty, no caramel sauce for dessert, and not many unusual choices on the menu. Wish it could be better...

The best meal was the pork belly appetizer, but everything else was ok. There was nothing outstanding and especially for the price. Brussel sprouts and trout sushi roll were good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The bibimbap was good, but again, nothing you can’t get at a local Korean joint.
The drinks were great with the execution of not using the block of ice for an old fashioned. They wanted an extra $2 for a block. Properly made drinks shouldn’t require extra $.

This was my first visit, I was early to a 6:30 p.m. reservation and was seated immediately. Party of one usually easy to deal with. Interesting layout however maze-like floor plan can be confusing. Server Genevieve well spoken and thoughtful. I custom ordered my personal cocktail and the bartender nailed it. When I made the reservation I indicated an allergy to mango; at the table I was offered a short completely allergen free menu. After reviewing it, I asked for the full menu with the proviso I would simply watch my selections with care. Beet and vegetable roll, Edamame with sea salt, and the Crab & Sausage fried rice were hazard free for me. All delicious and well presented. Overall, an atmosphere of cozy luxury. Quite a view of the city, too.

Great food and drinks, friendly knowledgeable wait staff. Only thing I'd change is how far your sitting from your date... tables are long. You actually sit closer to the person at the adjacent table than who you came to eat with.

My overall would be a 4 or 5 but the female hostess was completely rude prior to our reservation on open table. My friend and I arrived around 10pm with no reservation and asked for a table for 2. We were told there was a 45 minute wait. Okay I’m starving so idk what to do. We go to the bathroom come back and ask if we can wait in the bar when he eating the snotty girls says well it’s an hour and 1/2 now but sure. In 5 minutes? And that’s when the restaurant closes? Really? But what really got me is another girl walked up on the phone with an iPad and she said “reservation for 2?” We have that at 1045 or 11. And I look at the screen and it says 1015, 1030, 1045, 11. Is wtf!? I say something about it to my hostess and she says well you can try to get one on open table. That’s clearly what you guys use? So why don’t you do it for me? I was LIVID. And honestly ready to leave. From that experience I don’t feel The Departure should have had my business that night. But my friend REALLY wanted the yakitori. So we pulled up open table. 1015 was gone so we grabbed the 1030 one now with amount 20 minutes to wait. Not an hour. Not the initial 45. She then sat us at a table without the candle lit, didn’t light it. Didn’t send someone to light it. I felt like it was just additional shade. That all being said the food was pretty good. Not phenomenal but definitely tasty. I didn’t order an actual dinner just stuff found on the late night menu. The waiter was also great! Very helpful and friendly. Would I go there again? Idk. My experience was really tainted by the rude hostess. But probably. I know I’d go back to the outside bar, they’ve always been great. That hostess either needs to fix her attitude problem OR they need to fix their seating policies. If you have something open and people sitting right there, seat them.

Originally had made reservations for 8:15pm, but finished early, so we changed it to 7:45pm. Arriving earlier than planned at 7:15pm, we told the host and she said tables were getting cleaned up and we can get seated soon. She let us know we can wait at the patio bar which has nice views of the city of Portland.

After about 30 minutes, I decided to go back to the front to see if I can get an update, but saw the host was busy so I went back to the patio without saying anything, but we did make eye contact. 15 minutes later, I go back to the host and she looked at me and said "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. I forgot!"

A little annoyed, we proceeded to eat anyways to check out the restaurant. First impressions is it's a very nice restaurant, not super classy, but also not casual. That was until we unfolded our cloth napkins to see wooden disposable chopsticks. You would think a place that has "$$$" on Yelp would have better utensils.

Our waiter didn't show up after 5 minutes of being seated so we asked the manager walking by to grab him. When he showed up, he took our order and he was very nice and friendly. We had ordered the pork belly, chicken wings, and crab & pork belly fried rice. Everything was good but nothing wowed us. We proceeded to get the check and left. On our way out going down the elevator, another couple mentioned to us that Michael Jordan was dining there, so that was pretty cool.

This place overall was alright. I would like to come back here again for the warmer weather to sit outside on the balcony. Where we sat was under a speaker where the music was playing. It sounded like NYC Fashion Week music, which wasn't bad, but not romantic for a dinner date. This place is more like a get together with friends. The service was good. Back to the music part... It kept going up and down in volume, like someone was messing with the volume dial. It was strange. The place was modern.
